  2. I was drawn for an archery hunt at Laguna Atascosa NWR. Hunt will take place in mid-December. This will be a first for me in a couple of different ways. 1. I've been out of the archery game for about 10 years so I've got some brushing up to do on my shooting. 2. This gives me a chance to take my first south Texas whitetail with a bow and at the same time gives me tye chance to take a nilgai. 3. I'll get to see a part of this great state that I've never seen before. It's a little intimidating but I'm excited for it. Totally different terrain than what I'm used to hunting.
  3. Hope you're doing well Shaun!

  5. Still try and check in every now and again. Nice to see everyone!

  7. Hey everyone, I've been thinking about getting a Magic Eagle trial camera for my hunting trips, but a friend of mine said it's unethical. He thinks it's an unfair advantage, and it takes the "hunt" out of hunting. I totally disagree. To me, it's just another tool, like a good pair of binoculars or a rifle scope. It's about being smart and efficient. What do you all think? Are we crossing a line by using this technology, or is it just the natural evolution of the sport? Let me know your thoughts.
  8. Figured I'd give the forums a little life. Those of you who still slip by, ride along with me as I hunt public land around East Texas for the 2025-2026 season. I'll post updates as often as I can. I now primarily hunt in the Moore Plantation WMA in south Sabine County, Texas with a couple of hunts in the north part of Sabine National Forest up around Huxley, TX and down on the Neches-Angelina WMA. I also have applied to several draw hunts around the state, from the panhandle to far west Texas down to the coast and south Texas. Odds are low that I'll draw any of them but there's always hope! Last year on the Moore was good as far as deer sightings go. I janked shots on 2 different bucks and ended the season with tag soup. I'm hoping those bucks made it through the year and I get another shot at one of them at least. They should be a couple of dandies this year. 2019 saw the last of my private land Colorado mule deer hunts. Some of you followed along on several of my live hunts over the years on those. The landowner we leased from got on up in age and moved to Utah to be closer to his daughter. Most of the land was divided up and sold with what was left handed over to an outfitter who in turn jacked the prices up to stupid levels. Those were good times but they are just memories now. We typically had 10-12 guys go up every year and hunt. 5 of those guys have passed on. 4 of which happened in the last few years. One of these days I'll make it back up to Colorado to hunt public land. But here's to a successful and safe '25-'26 season for all of us!
  9. Good luck to you as well this season!
  10. checking thru some passwords/websites to see if I needed to delete them, and came across this one. had to check and see if it was still around... sure enough it is. Very surprised, as I thought it had shut down a few years ago. was probably a domain name change, because my bookmark didnt work. had to google it up. I was more a lurker than a poster from a long time ago in the heydey of many forums that have gone by the wayside. this one, like many that barely hang on, I just have forgotten about and/or dont bother to visit. no reason to, if there is no activity. I never got on the facebook bandwagon, either, and never will. same with reddit. both leading contributors to traditional forums demise. anyway, to the very few who hang on good luck to you. 👋👋
  11. Awesome stuff! I haven't chased turkeys in a long time.
  12. I check in from time to time... still out chasing Ohio whitetail and turkey. Here's my 2025 Ohio crossbow turkey hunt... Ten point Nitro 505 with DNT Zulus scope.
  13. Good to see you guys checking in. It's hot, humid and down right disrespectful outside.......come on cooler weather!
  14. I too navigate through the hallowed halls of this forgotten place from time to time. [email protected]
  15. Still here guys
  16. Found the message and appreciate it. Hope all is well. we had some good times here
  17. With the golden days behind us, the chatter and chaos now silent, we cannot return the forum to what it once was. But time has granted us something else: memories, friendships, and stories that still live here....buried, but never forgotten. We remain, scattered across the internet, but a few still return... watching... remembering... hoping. I have seen what this place once meant to so many, and though the world has changed, like us, there’s more to this forum than meets the eye. I am Dawg, and I leave this message to any old members who may one day find their way back: I am here. I am waiting.
  18. WOW....FEBRUARY 24, 2002 ??!!! This is the day we switched to the NEW RT Forums. Does anybody remember the original forums ? There was like 6 rooms LOL. I think in those early days, there was only like 250 of us members to start with, back around 1998 or 99. Crazy to think about.
  19. I still check in from time to time......how times have changed. It used to be you could barely keep up with all the posts every day, now you can check in months later, and hardly anything changed. Sad to see.

    Is this thing on?

Came here in the height of it in 2005. Those were the good old days here. I think there was a big fall out with some regulars awhile back and a lot of guys simply left. That and the website was acting up a lot probably turned a lot away. I know there was a year there where u couldn’t even find the site. I think that was the final nail in coffin
  22. Man, how in he heck does time fly by so fast.....back in the day I was one of the original mods !! I think that was around 2000 or 2001......5 years later this place had exploded !! Last time I checked in was about 2 or 3 years ago and it had become a ghost town. I logged in tonight and it looks basically shut down, what the heck happened ??!!
  23. Well I had a great season with plenty of meat and an 8 point = 14 points. Granted I was the only one playing this year it's still a solid win and I'm sure Bill Jordan will be calling me to come hunt with him on some fancy ranch soon. Happy NEW YEAR everyone! I suppose this will be the last DEER contest for the RT forums.
  24. Not yet! LOL. No reports of anyone getting him yet.
  25. Still alive and kickin. Haven't even warmed the barrel up in about 3 years, just busy working , then bent my thumbs back trying to install tire chains to get a Super-B load of oil on a snow/ ice covered hill. I'm doing rehab now, but it a slow process getting back k the way they were before the injury.
  26. Holy cow.. i didn't realize this place still existed after you couldn't get to the forums last year.. I wish more people were still around. Congrats on your 24' deer Fly, not much doing here, just a nice doe in the freezer.
