  1. Re: Hunting Situation Brace Heights Look into REaltree EZ arm-guard, that thing is awesome and I don't hunt in cold weather without it. I'll have insulated underwear, shirt, and heavy coat on with no string contact at all when using it. Brace height contriutes to primarily two things, more critical to shoot and a longer power stroke. I've got two bows with a 6 1/2 brace height and love'em. When I first read you post, it automatically threw up a red flag of to long of draw length. Seems like most of the guys have hit about everythng you need to try, but personally I'd go with a shorter draw length first. JMO
  2. Re: Arrow question With you cutting the arrow down to 27 inches, will drastically stiffen the spine on them and you'll be just fine. My brother has got two of the XT's and uses the 5575's on a 70# draw weight at 28.5" arrows on a 30" draw, they fly like darts. I've never understood why you would want to go above specks on an arrow when it calls for that arrow to handle from 55 to 75 pounds, when your shooting within that arrows tolerances on your draw weight. You don't want to be way over spined on any type of bow you shoot. JMO
  3. Re: bow hunting [ QUOTE ] shoot year round if you can. join a league during the winter and shoot 3d shoots all summer. by the time next bow season comes, you will be more than ready. when you shoot make sure you shoot each shot with the exact same shooting form. take your time, start up close and then work your way out to your max distance. Shoot Strong Tony [/ QUOTE ] I'll second that and make sure you get set-up correctly with your new rigs at a reputable Pro Shop. Best of Luck to you, your wife and Welcome to the forums!
  4. Re: Bohning Vanes/Glue Question Fleth-tite Glue works great as well and goes with what these guys have said about it's all in the personal choice of glue. I do how ever do more than make sure the arrow is clean, I scuf the surface up a litte bit with some 150 emory clothe where the fletching is going to make contact withthe shaft. It just gives a little more grip for the glue to adhere to. IMO
  5. Re: taking young bucks. [ QUOTE ] Shoot what ya want, but dont complain to me when you never shoot a wall hanger!! [/ QUOTE ] I'm totally agree with this statement and on the other hand I am one of those out of state hunters that come up to SE Ohio and bring a few thousand dollars revinew to your benefit. I've taken some small bucks up there and got one P&Y so far, this past year killed a 112 3/8 eight point. I hunt my butt for a big buck the first five days of my hunt, but on the last day it's lungs are going to see the light of day. So, I wouldn't start casting stones at people are putting bread on a lot of Ohioians table. Last report I saw, the non-res. were investing more than a couple of millions dollars a season, sounds like a better trade for you guys on a small buck kill.
  6. Re: The ACLU (oh how we\'ve come so far) How true! And sad!
  7. Re: Got my first buck!!!! Awesome job Casey! Congratulations to you on an awesome first buck and bow kill to boot!
  8. Re: Big Ohio Doe Down Congrats on a monster Doe!
  9. Re: 60 pounds...to much 60 ponds isn't a whole lot on a compound but a recurve will kill ya. LOL I do know that you don't hold a recurve at full draw, it's a one movement cycle of shooting. You all ready need to be aiming as you draw, when you reach your eference point of being at full draw, release the arrow. I'm very impressed watching the traditional shooter in my club doing this. One of my good friends is the NC state champion, totally amazing to watch him shoot a recurve. It's all one fluid motion of the draw and shooting cycle and lots and lots of practice.
  10. Re: aiming is all concentration I guess I'm a thining do-er! LOL
  11. Re: GIRLS!GIRLS!GIRLS! That's a great early Christmas present! I hope she does well with the new editions. Best of luck to you and Merry Christmas!
  12. Re: Muzzy\'s or Montec G5 I've been using Muzzy's for the last 15 years now and have had grreat success with them. I switched from the 90 grain 4-blade after a couple of years to the 100 grain 3-blade and shot them until 4 years ago. I then went to the 75 grain 3-blade and totally love the way these heads fly and perform on deer. The Montec's are a well contructed heads as well and alot of people use them. I would recommend buying a package of each or trying to getting ahold of a couple of each, then shooting them on your set-up, and see which works best for your set-up.
  13. Re: Target Practice [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] bails of hay are your best bet [/ QUOTE ] Yep! [/ QUOTE ] Ditto!
  14. Re: Help With Bow... Shoot any of them you can at the dealer and then make your decision. You don't want to just buy a bow, then get it home figure out your having a hard time shooting it because it doesn't feel right. Most bows feel go just holding them at the shop, but shooting it tells you a lot.
  15. Re: aiming is all concentration Great reply Pin-I was just takling with a long time tournament buddy about shooting. This applies to what you and Tony have said and I guess I've been in that Zen like state on a course busting those 12's and shooting indoors on my 300 nights. Thinking back to these shoots on those days where it wsa like tunnel vision seeing the X or the 12 ring. They looked as though there was nothing else on the target and didn't matter where the pin was aton it, it found it's way there. That is why I keep doing it as well. Great shooting guys and Happy Holidays!
  16. Re: XT connected on a doe Congrats Craig! Nice Doe.
  17. Re: aiming is all concentration Tony has a good point on this and you mentioned about shooting with both eyes open. That is something I have never been able to do and have tried this on several occassions over the years. I've ben shooting competitvely for 14 year now and watched lots of shooters do this. I know most of the top shooters do shoot with both eyes open. i guess that part of willing it in and loosing sight of the pin. With one eye it's not going to stray from the vision of the pin. Another reason I couldn't really grsp what Tony was sayig about loosing the pin on the target. Is I use the pin so to speak to much my release go off. I don't even concentrate on the release at all, that is secondary to me. When my pin is on it's mark the release go off. If that makes any sense. So, I can't loose focus of the pin. That is the point I was trying to get at in my first post, but I guess it come out wrong. Sorry Tony.
  18. Re: Thermocell mosquito repellent My neighbor used his all season in SC and had no problem with the deer.
  19. Re: Predator hunting contest rules. Oh well, I'll have to try next year. Thanks Bud!
  20. Re: aiming is all concentration Tony I agree concentration is a big key of shooting, but willing something into a spot is a little beyond me. If I could do that, I would take up meditation and not practice my shooting at all and take my pins off. That's just what I'm hearing on this and I'm NOT try to insult you or anything. I can agree on the concentrating on the spot but subconsciously you are looking at the pin. If we take the pin out of the factor how are we supposed to hit out target precise, I do practice not aiming and just holding and releaseing to pick up on form issue's of holding and follow through's. I don't know, maybe I'm missing something into what you trying to get at and like I said, I'm not trying to insult you in any way on this. Just trying to follow what you getting at with it. Let me try and explain what I'm seeing what your saying, I'm pictureing you shooting in some Zin state and wodding a bunch of arrows together by looking at or beyond the target. Is this a Neo moment from the Matrix of being the spoon? LOL
  21. Re: Anyone notice the poll question?? Big T would be having spell check DT's since he can't post on a poll!
  22. Re: knife safety - 101 Hmmmmmm! Should I or Shouldn't I? No, I'll leave it alone! LOL I'm sure it hurt, though.
  23. Re: Anyone notice the poll question?? I saw that when I logged into the forums. I thought it was kind of odd, maybe Hicks was doing the polls now. LMBO
  24. Re: heat carbon I still wouldn't recommend that either, it might work for that half a dozen but I've seen the weaving come out the end of a shaft after the insert has been pulled or knocked out. If it's just hot melt glue holding the insert that should work, but if it's epoxy holding the insert, nope.
  25. Re: Predator hunting contest rules. I didn't see a cut off date for signing up for this contest. So am I to believe that I can hunt inthis as well? If so, I'm in. Chance, let me know, please.
