Hope to get some time in a tree, but have some other things going on. If nothing else would like to whack some yotes. I know the top targeted buck on our property was hit yesterday afternoon with muzzleloader at about 140-150 yards out on a hard angling shot, but not sure if his hit was fatal. We found blood that started about 25 yards from where the deer was hit and only went for about 60 yards before we lost blood. Spent about 3.5 hours in the dark looking last night until rain moved in with no luck. Went back this morning and looked another 3 hours. Have a few other areas I want to walk to see if I can find him. This was the only deer we had gotten tc pics of that I said I would shoot this year, so if he is gone I am hunting a ghost, sure would like to find him or get some tc pics of him to know one way or the other. Who knows though bucks have a way of just showing up, so there may be something out there that might trip my trigger. He had been close on a doe, so yeah it is the time to be out right now. We had hundreds of pics of this buck this year. Have the bed off my truck, had to replace the fuel pump, need to get it back together. Not looking forward to laying on the ground to put the bolts back in it in this cold either, especially with the north wind that is not letting off.

How long does it take to potty train a puppy

Rub their nose in it or smack em on the rear with rolled up newspaper always worked for me. Not sure what this would have to do with deer hunting. -
To kinda follow up here, you cannot really assume a load that works for one bergara barrel is gonna be the best for the next. I got my wife's accura mountain rifle clover leafing the 240 grain interlocks at 100 yards, BUT not with the same load that produced the best accuracy out of my longer barreled standard accura v2. I shoot 115 grains loose triple 7. I used my load as a starting point for hers. Hers with 115 grains of triple 7 was just not producing the accuracy i thought it should. Groups were greater than 1.5 inches off the bench. Also to note it produced significantly more recoil than my gun with the exact same load. Wife shot 3 shots her first session and was done. So backed down at 5 grain increments and found 100 grains triple 7 to be a real sweet spot for her gun. Also to note there is a poi shift from 240 grain hornady xtp mags to the 240 hornady American whitetail that was approximately 2 inches to the right for both accura rifles at 100 yards. Elevation remained the same.

Dealing with mosquitoes while deer hunting
wtnhunt replied to Ryan8877's topic in The Realtree Pro Staff Room
Welcome to the forums. Thermacell works only fair here in west Tennessee, huge mosquito problem here in these old river bottoms they are relentless. Was a post not too long back in the deer room where someone suggested using permethrin on your clothes. -
Congrats on the buck Al. That is a shame about that buck Don. They can do some pretty stupid stuff, amazing how easily they can seem to hang their antlers between stuff.

This time of year here, not unusual at all to see copperheads and water moccasins, even get them in the yard. No shortage of them around. Matter of fact, or dog got snake bit again, somewhere under her chin this time on Tuesday. She had followed me down to clean some mess around one of my stands. Found her later in the day when I got back drooling bloody drool all over our front deck. I did not see any snakes myself but figured they were active. We gave the dog a dose of dexamethasone and long acting pen and 3 days later she is all better. Snakes are still protected here, warden told us use discretion.

Our youngest daughter Allison turns 13 tomorrow, but we are celebrating her birthday this evening. Muzzleloader opens tomorrow. Have state band competition in middle Tn tomorrow, last year for high school band for Nicole since she is a senior this year. Her school performs at 11:52 am, so likely will not get out in the morning, but might make it back for an afternoon hunt. Catrina or I will be in a stand Sunday for sure.

Good to see you check in Dan. Not been out much here, our muzzleloader opens this weekend, hoping to get out a bit more in the coming weeks.

Do you have permission on the beans? What is the typical wind direction? Orientation of this map nsew? Looks like there is a road or trail just to the left of your line but still inside your circled part. I would probably be where I could get near the inside corner of the beans and still see as much of that trail as possible and try to locate where the wind would be in my face. Have to be conscientious however of the houses nearby and what directions you can safely shoot from in a ground blind. An elevated stand where the dirt is a backdrop might be a safer option to give more opportunities.

Welcome to the forums. Kinda having a hard time picturing your property layout, a map would help. If it were me, with how you describe it I would probably try to see what the does are doing and setup on them. Here right now, they are hitting standing beans pretty hard, but also are hitting the acorns. With your setup being for rifle hunt 3 weeks away, what they are hitting on food today may not be the same then, but he will be after the does. If the beans will still be standing and if there are enough of them, the does will continue trying to feed in them.

Senior night tonight at the football game, my wife and I will be walking our 17 year old daughter in, as she has been in the color guard. Youth hunt this weekend, taking our 12 year old daughter.
-
Good luck Jerry. Will be setting an alarm for tomorrow for our 12 year old daughter to go after deer in the morning. Our youth hunt is this weekend and she is ready to kill some jerky. lol The 3rd is the opener of our muzzleloader season but is also the day of our second daughter's last high school state band contest. Unless something happens to change the time of their performance, unlikely I will get to hunt that morning.
-
Very nice work there as usual Ross.

Our 17 year old daughter, Nicole, has a band contest Saturday in Memphis. Think my wife is going along on the bus, they won't get home until about 1 am Sunday morning. I will probably get caught up on some inside chores while home with our youngest two. Need to clean a few guns too. Have most everything that is susceptible to freezing brought in. Still need to figure out what I am gonna do with my 3 pt sprayer to winterize it whether I will bring it in the basement or use a little antifreeze in it. Will do some shooting Sunday with Allison, our 12 year old, and probably also shoot my muzzleloader. Wife needs to shoot her accura too. Our juvenile hut is next weekend, so I am limiting my hunting prior. I did get out this morning and bumped several less than 10 yards from the stand I was going to hunt, so I backed out in the dark and went around and back up to a different stand. That in mind, not sure whether I will try to hunt again before the youth hunt.

Rubber boots here, don't use any cover scent on my boots. I have been known to walk through cowpies on my way to stand though.
-
Yeah, that is not carrying. If she were still carrying it would be further back and not in the chest. She may have some sort of tumor.
-
Too steep for my budget. Looks like something Frank(fly) might have. lol. Only bike I have and still own is my old mongoose from back in the 80's. It is or eh was powered by my legs.

Have a nikon monarch 2.5-10x42 bdc on my LR308, and a prostaff 4-12x40 bdc on my rem 700 varmint sf. Been very happy with both. Really boils down to how much you want to spend and on what type deer hunting you will be doing.

Only hang on I have up this year is an ameristep bone collector deluxe and have a big game stick for that set that I picked up online from rural king. The rest of the stands I currently have up are either permanent or ladder stands. Have several home made steel ladder stands and a couple ameristep, one of those is the 2 man that walmart sells. Steel prices have been climbing, and with them the prices of most everything related to stands is probably also gonna climb. Does not help now, but walmart after season is the best time to find deals, online and in stores. For comfort the ameristep hang on stand is very similar to my summit climber. Has the sling type seat and back cushion that is more comfortable to sit in than a steel seat with a cushion.
