  1. Thanks for all of the comments guy's. I am so happy to have had the opportunity to take this buck, regardless of what he scores. I have taken a lot of deer with gun and my 1st doe with an arrow last year was awesome, but... I will NEVER forget the flood of emotion that I felt when I saw him go down. I was extatic and crying at the same time. My hand was steady as ever until I saw him drop, then I started shaking so bad I could barely use my cell phone to call my wife and son! I took this deer in Baltimore on my friends farm.
  2. Nice work!!!! That is a nice sized doe. It must be nice to have you GF hunt with you. Congrats!
  3. Took me a while to post up the pics but here he is. I took him on Friday, November 13th and this is my 1st archery buck. He crossed a path in the woods at about 70 yards in front of me and my heart started to pound! I did not think that he would turn my way but he did, about 60 yards on the other side of a thicket. I grunted at him out of desperation and he just stopped and looked for a minute then kept on his way. I grunted again, a little louder and longer and it set him off! He smashed into some brush, thrashing it with his rack and circled around downwind behind me - giving me exactly a 23 yard shot. I sent a two blade rage through him and he went about 40 yards down into a creek and stopped. I could see his rack looking around and then wobble and then he dropped! He is at the taxidermist now and I cannot wait to get him back home! Any guess on what he will score? I am thinking mid 120's to 130. His inside spread is just shy of 19 inches. Thanks for letting me share!
  4. Yes, there is a price difference. The Hornady SST's are usually $11.99 while the new Barnes slugs came it at $15.99 a box. After these slugs worked so well, I went back and I've got a total of 10 boxes with the same lot #. These ought to last me for quite a while!
  5. After switching to the Hornady SST's a two years ago (with OK on game performance) I saw that Federal had a new tipped Barnes Expander slug out. I was always very impressed with how these slugs performed on game and was anxious to try them out. I picked up a few boxes and headed to the range this am. I ended up putting 4 rounds in a inch at 50 yards and pulled my 5th shot a little making the total group size 2 inches for 5 rounds at 50 yards. I just wanted to share my results and say that it looks like my 11-87 and Leupold 2-7 have a rekindled relationship with those wicked barnes slugs again! Good luck this year everyone and stay safe!
  6. Re: need help with 1187 What length barrel? I would start out by checking the o-ring and also make sure that the gas port in the barrel is clean and open.
  7. Re: Leupold M8-2x This scope is SOLD PENDING FUNDS
  8. This is a like new Leupold M8 - 2x Extended E.R. scope. It was mounted in rings but never fired. I has a hint of a ring mark on the bottom (could not get it to show in the pictures). Otherwise this is like new. $135.00 Shipped to the CONUS. (US Postal Money Order please) E-Mail me at [email protected]
  9. Re: Nikon 4.5-14x40mm Side Focus - PRICE REDUCED Scope is sold pending funds. Thank you.
  10. Re: Nikon 4.5-14x40mm Side Focus - PRICE REDUCED PRICE REDUCED - I am reducing the price to $225 shipped to CONUS. Requesting US Postal Money Order.
  11. I have a brand new - never mounted Nikon Buckmasters 4.5-14x40mm scope with the side focus. I have the box and all warranty paperwork. I am asking $240.00 shipped. Please e-mail me at [email protected] Thank you!!!
  12. Re: I got a new rifle yesterday! Thanks for the replies. AJ, yes it's a factory .300 WSM. It looks like this poor rifle sat in the gunshop for a few years, the ship date on the packaging noted 2003. I'm really undecided on what glass to mount on this rifle. I looked through a Burris Fullfield II the other day w/ the ballistic plex reticle and I really liked the clarity. I just cannot decide if I want to go with a 3-9x or a 4-14x scope. I am leaning toward the 4-14x in the burris or a Nikon Monarch. I also like the idea of the Nikon Buckmasters with the side focus but I've not been able to handle one and was unsure of the quality. Oh well, I've got some to to think about it as my Elk trip will be next year. Thanks again to all of you and if anyone has suggestions on the scope, let 'em rip.
  13. Yesterday the weather here was pretty crappy do I decided to take my son to the local outdoor store to do some browsing. I have been thinking about buying a "large game" rifle for some time because the one thing missing from my collection is a "large bore" centerfire. I decided to check out the used guns. Not much to see there so we went to the main sales counter. I looked at some Tikkas and some Remingtons but then I saw a pretty nice Savage with a laminated stock. I asked to see it and noticed that it was marked Clearance. It was chambered in .300 WSM and I had some gift cards left over from Christmas so I said what the heck and bought it. I ended up walking out the door for just over $300.00 so I feel that I got a fair deal. I did a bedding job today using Steel Bed and I will be intalling a new trigger soon (this gun is pre accutrigger - which is fine because I have a SSS trigger on my .22-250 that I love. Anyway I am just trying to decide on some glass for this rifle. Not sure which way I want to go so if anyone has some suggestions for a scope and magnification range, I'm all ears. Here is the pic!
  14. Re: Guns for Christmas It's not a rifle but I'm pretty excited so I'll add my gift here. My wife completely suprised me this year. She has never bought a gun for me on her own and I think that she did an outstanding job. Actually I've never received a gun as a gift before. She bought me a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter in .44 Mag with a 7.5" barrel. I went into Gander Mountain on Monday to look at some red dot scopes but I found a Leupold 2x that I really liked. I asked them how much and they could not find the box or the price in the computer. I ended up out the door with the scope for $148.00 so I figured that I could not pass this one up. I also picked up some dies, brass and bullets. I am thinking that I will have a lot of fun with this one!
