    Do You?

Re: Do You? I get just as much excitement out of video taping nice bucks and then showing to the guys at work. They just can't imagine passing on some of the bucks I have videoed over the past few years. If one comes along that really tickles my fancy, then I will shoot it with something besides the camera (at first anyways), and if it doesn't come along, that is ok too, there is always next year.

  3. Public Meetings Set About East Texas Black Bear Plan TYLER, Texas – A series of public meetings have been set for this month and next to explain the draft East Texas Black Bear Conservation and Management Plan. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department employees and a team of more than 30 partners have been meeting and sharing information to develop the draft plan for more than a year. Wildlife biologists and others say that a plan is needed for several reasons. "The black bear is a part of Texas’ natural heritage and forest ecology, the Louisiana black bear is on the federal threatened species list and is thus the focus of an ongoing restoration effort in Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma, and black bears appear to be poised for a slow return in East Texas," said Nathan Garner, TPWD wildlife division regional director in Tyler. "Having a proactive plan to manage the situation is good natural resource management." Black bears are already in East Texas to a limited extent, mainly solitary males wandering in from adjacent states. TPWD has documented 47 reliable bear sightings in East Texas since 1977, about two-thirds of those between 1991-2004. There is occupied bear habitat adjacent to East Texas in Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana, where wildlife agencies are experimenting with reintroducing bears in some areas. The East Texas Black Bear Conservation and Management Plan is now in final draft form and is ready for public release. A team of private landowners, government agencies, timber companies, university researchers, conservation groups and others have been working on the plan since 2002. The plan is supported by more than 30 diverse groups from the public and private sector. Two sub-species of black bear are found in Texas. The American black bear (Ursus americanus americanus), occurs mainly in the western and central parts of the state. The Louisiana black bear (Ursus americanus luteolus), is the sub-species found historically in East Texas. The distinction is significant because the Louisiana black bear is on the federal threatened species list, while the American black bear in Texas is not. A casual observer would not be able to tell the two apart. Scientific analysis, such as DNA testing, is needed for sub-species verification. The Louisiana sub-species is the focus of the East Texas bear plan. The management plan calls for various strategies to achieve specific goals. These include educating the public about black bears to minimize bear-people conflict potentials and allow reasonable human control of nuisance bears, and encouraging farm and forest management that provides bear habitat as part of a naturally diverse habitat system, to cite a few examples. One suggestion in the plan is to conduct research to determine the survivability and reproductive capacity of re-introduced black bears in East Texas. The plan recommends first determining if there is public support for this research. If support exists, the plan recommends relocating several adult females with cubs in winter from out-of-state to a large, controlled forest acreage in deep East Texas. Bears in the study group would be fitted with radio transmitters to monitor their movements. The public is invited to the following public meetings in southeast Texas to learn more about the draft East Texas Black Bear Conservation and Management Plan and to have the opportunity to ask questions and comment about the draft plan. The public may also request a copy of the plan or send comments in writing by e-mail to [email protected] or by regular mail to Nathan Garner, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, 11942 FM 848, Tyler, TX 75707. All meetings start at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 – Beaumont, Jefferson County, Jefferson County Courthouse, Ted Walker Jury and Panels Room, 1001 Pearl St. Dec. 2 – Lufkin, Angelina County, Angelina County Court House, Annex Meeting Room, 215 East Lufkin Ave. Dec. 9– Woodville, Tyler County, Tyler County Courthouse, District Courtroom, 100 W. Bluff, Room 202 Dec. 14 – Jasper, Jasper County, Jasper County Courthouse, County Courtroom, 121 N. Austin, Room 108 Dec. 16– Kountze, Hardin County, Kountze Middle School Auditorium, 150 Vaughn St. (U.S. Highway 69 and Vaughn Street)
  4. Earnhardt Jr. wins Most Popular Driver award, again From Press Release December 3, 2004 11:05 AM EST (16:05 GMT) NEW YORK -- For the second straight year, fans voted Dale Earnhardt Jr. the Pillsbury Grands! Biscuits NMPA NASCAR Most Popular Driver. The announcement was made Friday during the National Motorsports Press Association's Myers Brothers Awards Breakfast at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. Earnhardt Jr. becomes just the fifth driver in the award's history to have won in consecutive years, joining Bobby Allison, Richard Petty, Bill Elliott and Darrell Waltrip. A year ago, his selection by race fans made Earnhardt Jr. and his father, Dale Earnhardt, the only father-son combination to have won NASCAR's oldest off-track honor. "It was fun to win it last year, but to get two in a row really means a lot to me," said Earnhardt Jr. "I've learned this year about how loyal and supportive my fans are. My team had our best season ever, but we also had a lot of trouble along the way, including my injuries. "I used to worry about losing my fans after a bad race or two, but I found out this year the fans really got behind me when I needed it the most. It's a big compliment to have that many fans voting for me and letting me know they're supportive and loyal no matter what." Earnhardt Jr. has led the voting since the start of the 2004 season, and easily captured enough votes in the record-setting 2004 year to again win the award. He finished with 1,487,512 votes, which exceeds the combined vote totals of the following six drivers. "Dale Jr. is obviously a fan favorite, and this just confirms that," said Kenny Bruce, president of the National Motorsports Press Association. "All of the drivers in NASCAR racing have fans who support them wholeheartedly, and I think it's great what the Earnhardt fans have done. We are grateful to all of the NASCAR fans who were part of the voting process, and we feel they made a good choice." Following Earnhardt Jr. in the 2004 Most Popular Driver Award final standings were drivers Jeff Gordon (496,362) and Kevin Harvick (249,228), who finished second and third respectively. Rounding out the top 10 in descending order of votes were Michael Waltrip (225,011), Tony Stewart (185,486), Kasey Kahne (178,280), Dale Jarrett (127,423), Mark Martin (98,461), Jimmie Johnson (92,828) and Bobby Labonte (80,680). More than 40 drivers received votes. NASCAR's Most Popular Driver Award dates back to 1956. It began as a simple poll of the drivers and grew to incorporate all NASCAR Cup competitors. Later, it included all NASCAR members. Today, it is a prestigious award voted on by racing fans nationwide. T hrough the years, the voters' choices have ranged from the obvious to the surprising. Bill Elliott won the award 16 times before retiring his name from the Most Popular Driver Award voting at the beginning of the 2003 season. Richard Petty won the award nine times.
  5. Police Rescue Bare-Bottomed Cowboy Hanging On Fence POSTED: 9:51 am EST December 1, 2004 REGINA, Saskatchewan -- A real cowboy is never caught without his boots, but his pants are another matter. Police in Regina found a bare-butted cowboy hanging from a fence. It seems the Canadian cowpoke had a little too much to drink at an agriculture festival Saturday night. He tried climbing an 8-foot-tall fence but snagged a pant leg, leaving him dangling upside down. He dropped his cell phone, too. Police said he unzipped his pants to get free, but discovered he couldn't get them off. He eventually reached the phone's keypad and dialed 911. Officers found the cowboy, still hanging upside down, with his pants down to his knees. A police sergeant said other than suffering from the cold and embarrassment, the cowboy is OK.

  9. From NASCAR.com --- 556 -- Chevrolet's victory total since 1949, two better than Ford's 554 wins Pretty much settles any dispute about which is better. Seriously, it is amazing to me that after 55 years the numbers are that close.

  21. Earnhardt Jr. OK after destroying primary car By Marty Smith, NASCAR.COM November 12, 2004 05:32 PM EST (22:32 GMT) DARLINGTON, S.C. -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. will require a backup car for the Southern 500 following a brush with the Turn 2 wall during practice Friday. And this was no love tap, either. Earnhardt hit hard enough hard enough to knock the roll cage loose in the No. 8 Chevrolet and knock the breath from his lungs. "At Darlington, due to fact that we hit the wall here a lot in the race, every car puts a 4x4 square piece of lumber in the side," Junior explained. "I hit the wall really hard. "It knocked breath out of me, moved that lumber, knocked the cage out of the car. "That's the main part of the chassis. We might have to make a show car out of this one. I don't know really what happened other than I ran out of racetrack. I got up out of the groove, hit the fence. It happens." True, but it tends to occur at Darlington Raceway more than at most venues. "Junior proved that this morning," chuckled Jeff Gordon. "I went out my first lap and I about got in the wall, too." Apparently it's not cause for much concern in the DEI camp. After 49 minutes spent prepping the backup, Junior promptly went out and ran his fastest laps of the day. "Any time we tear up our primary car, I feel pretty good about the car we have on the trailer," he said. "I got a couple laps, so we have a good idea what to put under the car (for the race) if we get rained out tomorrow." The backup car is one Earnhardt has run multiple times in the past, but has yet to race in 2004. Due to a qualifying rainout, he'll start third Sunday. "I didn't really have a lot of high expectations going into qualifying, regardless," Earnhardt said. "It's nice to have a good starting spot (and) clean air, but you're car's got to be good."
