  1. Everyone needs to fly their flags upside down.
  2. Interesting................. Maybe we should have Eric Holder appoint a special prosecutor to get to the bottom of it all.
  3. +1 on the economical Remington or Winchester 150 or 170 gr. ammo. Core-Lokts and Power Points have been coming out of 30-30's and killing deer very well for a long time.
  4. I still have about 1000# of 19-19-19 to buy. I'll be getting it a a farm supply mill where they mix their own fertilizer and you buy it in bulk. I believe he said it was $655/ton in bulk. I can buy feed sacks for a quarter right on the way over there and bag it myself.
  5. Did the 2x 1/2 ac. gamebird mix plots yesterday. Man is fertilizer FREAKIN' EXPENSIVE !!!!! Picked up 400# of 19-19-19 in the morning. Figured $8-$10/bag. WRONG !!!!!!!! Try $20.25/bag !!!!!!!! Underseeded the 1 plot with 1# of chickory. Hopefully the millet & sorghunm will work as a cover and I'll end up with a decent chickory plot next year. We'll see. This food plotting is breaking my bank.
  6. Been talking back & forth with a plant ecology prof. at the local university. I think she hit it. Viola triloba or Three-lobed violet. PLANTS Profile for Viola triloba (three-lobe violet) | USDA PLANTS
  7. Happy birthday ya little whippersnapper !!!!!!!
  8. I'd grill it basting throughout with a bottle of Kraft Zesty Italian dressing. I'd use up the whole bottle. Cut the head off and grill it whole. When it's done, the skeleton will come out wholesale by pulling out and down (toward the tail) gently on the spine at the neck.
  9. Cool little rifle !! Seriously.........with the price of ammo, these companies HAVE to be selling the snot out of the .22 LR black guns.
  10. Best of luck to you !!!
  11. Thanks for the nice comments, all !! Problem with hanging a stand on the "nice road for walking" is that it's the "Back Road". It parallels the neighbor's property about 15-20 yards off the property line. We have a semi-shaky reciprocity agreement for being able to follow blood over the property line. But he's a guy I'd just rather not deal with should I not have to. The pic of momma & the fawn is actually on that same road where it swings a 90-degree away from the neighbor and runs into the interior of my property. Actually killed a buck years ago about 30 yards uphill from where the fawn was standing.
  12. I was thinking about finding a contact person in the biology dept. at the local university. Hadn't thought about the county agent.
  13. Nope. DEFINITELY not sassafras. Whatever it is, it's an herbaceous perennial. Not woody at all.
  14. One of the few states in the union I've not been to yet. If I ever wander down thata way I will surely take you up on your offer.
  15. I don't even know if this thing flowers or not. It does not appear to be making any sort of bud. The stem definitely rules out the passion flower. It also does not vine at all. I would think that rules out morning glory. I don't know. It's a real puzzler.
  16. DANG !!! That looks like FUN !!!!!!! Shame there's no facility like that anywhere near here.

    Neat pic

Cool pic !! From the amount of line you have behind you, it looks like you're shooting a pretty long cast. I can't think of anywhere around here a guy could get that much line in his back cast without going monkey fishing.
  18. No. We have a dedicated bench/range about 3/4 of a mile from where I was standing for the power line pic. Actually, I found Speedy about 70 yards off the rifle range.
  19. Took a stroll around the Strut10 Ranch yesterday afternoon. Took the camera to get some pics of "the mystery plant" in my other Lounge post. After I got what I wanted there, I just started walking and snapping. A nice woods road for walking: Share the road: Bambi: Momma: Oops !! Busted !! The wind was straight from me to her : Down the power line. There's a lot of woods between me and the far round topped hill. It's close to 2 miles to the far hill: A wildlife clearing I made about 13 or 14 years ago: American chestnut: Another woods road: 3 flavors of ferns: I just thought this was neat. It was laying right beside where a hen had nested on 14 eggs: Cool little seep/waterfall: Creek bottom shot. Lil wants a ladder stand here this coming archery season: Bottom of the creek bottom: I named him Speedy:
  20. Mid or upper 120's. There are a few............ VERY FEW......... 140 - 160 class deer in my area. I've only ever seen two of them while in my woods and hunting. I get some trailcam pics. But again............ VERY FEW. So it's pretty hard to wait for one of them. I've only shot two bucks in the last 7 seasons. Neither of them are out of the 120's. My general rule is "P&Y or bigger". My hard & fast rule is "do I want that deer on my wall?" I will not shoot a buck that I will not have a shoulder mount made and hang it on my wall. Maybe my overall, baseline rule is "I will know when I see it".
  21. Nope. Definitely not ginseng. This is ginseng. And there's no woody stem or spent acorn on the root like oak seedlings would have. I can't find this stuff on any website or in any wildflower guide. I'm guessing it does not flower.
  22. What is this stuff ?? Run across it every year in gobbler season. Looks like domestic sweet potato leaves. But it's a single or double stalked plant growing no more than 12" high.
  23. PA season ended yesterday.
  24. Doing about 8 acres this year. 3 ac. triple clover mix 2x 1/2 ac. gamebird mix 4 ac. brassica/turnip/kale mix

    Car GPS?

Have a Garmin 1350. It's been very good. Just looking, today to get another. Probably going to get a 50 or a 2555. MAKE SURE whatever you get comes with free lifetime map upgrades !!!! Garmin's upgrade fee is generally between 50% - 75% the cost of just buying a new unit.
