On occasion I'll take a walk through the woods and fields I use to hunt. It is hard, not only because I can't hunt there anymore but how this big time farmer has destroyed woods and forever changed the landscape. Literally grew up in those woods. I know where we use to have stands, remember the hunts out of them. Certain trees become "monuments" in the woods. I know what ya feel XT.

Anyone else put one on their bow? I decided to put one on my Halon for hunting, HHA 5519. am really liking it so far, just working on getting the yardage tape set. Those who have one, how did you set up your sight? Wondering how close to the bottom of the slider I should go for my 20 yard mark? I can adjust the sight pin housing bracket down or up which will change where the 20 marking comes on the slider. For an HHA, there is a 20-40 and 20-60 method and I'm doing the 20-40 because I really don't shoot much past that...maybe 50 for fun.

Went out Friday AM, heard some gobbling distant off the property. Worked all weekend so couldn't get back out. Will get back out tomorrow and see if they are still around

Ranger, I did go out opening day, the rain stopped so I went out for about 2 hour. No rain so no worries, lol

I fell in love with turkeys when I first started hunting...after squirrels, a turkey was the next think I harvested before deer. They are such a challenge, but they are beautiful, unique creatures. Well it has been several years since I've tagged a bird. Declining populations, loss of land to hunt, loss of time to hunt because of work or college has definitely influenced that. Well yesterday AM, went just up the road to some property I got permission to hunt, as soon as I got out of the car they were gobbling. I snuck up this hill to the edge of a meadow and within a 100 yards on the other side there were at least 2, possibly 3 birds roosted and gobbling. No decoys out, I set myself down on the edge, with the terrain to my advantage. Below the birds was another small meadow, separating me and that meadow was a slope of trees then the meadow I was at had a small slope in it. Well once sun was up, those birds flew down into the lower meadow, gobbling. I gave some soft yelps and they made their way right up to me. I heard some spit n drumming then a red head bobbed over the slope. He came foreward and exposed his neck, I put the bead of my Winchester SX3 on his waddles and BOOM. Down he went, woohoo! Got a nice 15 pound jake, 4 1/2" beard, 3/8" spurs. I could not be happier! I was literally back home before 6:30am. I don't think I've ever had as quick a hunt, not to mention one that went how we'd all dream they'd go! Now my question is, will these birds still be in the area and be huntable? Saw one of them fly down in the woods below me. I did not go out today. Wondering how long to give them a rest and try again for my 2nd tag?

NY's turkey opener is tomorrow...forecast is rain. If it is not pouring I will go out. Question is, my Winchester SX3 has a wood stock/forearm...is it going to get destroyed exposed to the rain?

I've seen similar stuff on some of the hunting shows but they are on ranches/farms. Around here it is illegal to discharge a firearm from a vehicle or roadway. But I know it happens more often than not during deer season...at night. Several years ago was watching a herd of deer a field adjacent to our property. Almost dark, last day of season and kaboom! Drove up the road, caught a truck speeding off and a blood drag mark from the field to the roadside. I do think it's unethical and unlawful to shoot like this - it's poaching and unsafe. Now if you are just driving around scouting and looking for deer, that's not an issue.

Oh my gosh, just saw this post and thought "how did I miss this, he left Realtree, oh no!" Glad you are still around!!

I've been working in our field, have a clover mix to plant and also plowed an area to try a soybean plot along side a wildlife/bird mix. Deer hammered the clover plot last year and turnip plot so will be doing turnips late summer again.

Just wondering if I should clean my gun or not? Shot my Winchester SX3 20 ga with Invector Plus full choke...started with it clean, only put 4 shots through it. Wasn't sure if I should clean it again for season which is Sunday or leave it as is? It patterns the Winchester Double X Turkey #5 just a tad high but centered and out to 30 yards is a dead turkey for sure. Next year will probably get a good turkey choke for it. Also shot my Mossberg 500 20 ga super bantam...something is not right with it, the trigger assembly. The trigger is super hard and I think it's not just affecting my but the shooting of the gun....one shot out of it and my pattern was super low. Had issues with the hard trigger during deer season as well.

Anyone ever use them? Won a new Duel Legacy Crystal Blodgett Series call last night in a raffle. Let's just say I would never have paid the price that was still on it! It'll be something different to the collection and perhaps the birds will like it. Also, anyone know if Andy Smith (A.J Calls) still makes calls? I know he's not on the forums anymore, have a couple of his calls, just wondering.

Finished yesterday in 5th place in my class (17 total shooters) with a score of 291. I felt I actually shot well, I just misjudged yardage on a few targets which gave me a few more 8s than I wanted but I'm happy. Hoping to make a 2nd shoot next month, if I do then I can shoot at the state championship.

Wondering what length you guys have your arrows cut at? With a 26 " DL Halon, my tip of my 25.5" long 3D arrows for my Elite come up to the front edge of the shelf when drawn back. Not sure whether to go a little shorter or longer or stay the same for my hunting arrows for the Halon, going to get Axis I think and probably switch to muzzy or Slick Trick broadheads. Any thoughts?

Looking for a hunting arrow set-up for my Mathews Halon. It's 26" DL, 50-52 lb draw weight. Saw the Easton Axis, anyone shoot them? I was thinking a little bit heavier arrow would be beneficial. Thoughts?

It's going to come down to what feels good to you, all great bows. I actually was going to get a Hoyt Defiant then when I went back to the shop, shot the Defiant and Halon again and the more I shot the Halon, the more I just loved it.

About 2 weeks ago was outside around 6am doing barn chores and in some woods across the road what do I hear but a bunch of gobblers sound off. If that doesn't get the blood pumping. Got a trail cam out on some adjacent property I hunt and going to ask a neighbor if I can hunt his property where I heard the birds. Had to be 4-5 of them I'd guess. I'm sure they'll be breaking up their flock soon.
