Re: Gander Mountain today and questions... Thanks VH; only thing is it is slightly bigger than my draw length and weight but it sure looks like a nice piece of equipment!

Re: Reflex vs. Hoyt Thanks for the replies! I'm hoping to get out this week and look at some bows; hopefulyl some one will have some Reflexes/Hoyt. I'm sure the Reflex Excursion shoots alot faster than my old Hoyt Mystic Rebel. i'm looking at it in the 40-50 pound range with a 25/26 inch draw.

Ok, I've noticed in my researching of a new bow, that Hoyt and Reflex bows sure are similar at least appearance wise. Does anyone know how these bows shoot compared to each other? Are they being manufactured by the same company or are they just copying each other? I'm just wondering because I'm leaning towards a hoyt or Reflex bow and the Reflex Excursion I think will be cheaper than the Hoyt Selena or Rintec XL. Thanks!

Re: Gander Mountain today and questions... The Selena is new for 2006 but I'm thinking it's probably going to be way over my spending limit, lol, which I'm looking around $300 but I'm looking at getting a new sight and release also, so I'm checking out the Reflex.

Re: Gander Mountain today and questions... Thanks! I looked up on the Hoyt website where there are some retailers, and 2 of the stores are around the area and I've been to them but not looking for bows, so I'll have to check them out. Definitely considering the Reflex Excursion or Hoyt Selena if I can find someone with it. would a dealer like this order a bow for you if say they didn't carry the one you wanted? by the way, anyone know about how much the Hoyt Selena is or Relfex Excursion?

Re: Gander Mountain today and questions... Thanks NY911! Do you know anything about the Reflex Excursion? I saw it on Basspro. so about the Hoyts... does dealer only mean you can only get them from Hoyt or from like a hunting only store like a bow shop?

Re: I just bit the dust!!!! Whew, glad you weren't hurt seriously! Ice it a little but sounds like you'll be ok! Be careful next time, lol

Ok fellow hunting women; I'm in need of some bow suggestions. I'm looking into getting a new bow. Currently shoot a Mystic Rebel which is old, a little hefty, and just plain outdated, lol. I've been looking at Hoyts, specifically the Rintec and Selena, but I also held onto a Martin Cougar today that felt nice and saw on Basspro the Reflex Excursion which appears good also. I'm lookig for something in the 25-26" draw length, 40-50 pound draw weight range with a grip that isn't too thin. Held a bow today that feltl ike I was holding air, lol, but the Martin Cougar has a nice grip. Just wondering what bows you ladies shoot, what your draw weight is, and any bows you suggest? Thanks!
-
Well I got to gander Mountain and checked out the bows. No Hoyts or Reflexes or even Matthews; just a few Brownings, alot of Martins, and some others I can't remember. I talked to a guy who was a little helpful; held and drew back on a few bows. Of like the 3 I tried, the Martin Cougar had the best feel. I'm still hoping for a Hoyt maybe, not sure, will be trying to check out a few places in the area. I have a few questions though: The guy told me that the bows that have cams that are more egg shaped or have a sharper angle in the cam make the string turn over harded then if the cams are wheels. Any of you have anything to say on this? I guess the more egg shaped a cam, the strin is initially harded to pull back. So how are the Hoyt bows with the cam & 1/2 systems because I'm looking at Hoyts. Any of you have a Hoyt and can you tell me anything such as how the cams work? My other questions/concern is in order to possibly get the Hoyt I want, I may have to order if online or Ebay - what is my risk with this and have any of you done this? I know if it better to try a bow out first, but I have an older Hoyt and Andy has a newer Hoyt and I like them so far. I was looking at the Hoyt Selena which is a bow just for women, except it is a 2006 so it might be costly. Anyway any suggestions on anything would be appreciated! I forgot too mention I got a Whitewater button down heavy cotton shirt in Advantage Hardwoods for $10 on sale, and a Lohman Predator call for $8 to try and call in the fox that is getting our chickens. Thanks guys!

Ok, so I'm going to look at bows tomorrow at Gander Mountain, any suggestions? My draw weight is about 40-50 pounds, draw length about 26" and so far I've found that the Hoyt Rintec would be about the right draw length and draw weight. Anyone know of any other bows or suggest some bows to look for? I think I'll be in the youth category, lol, because most bows have too high a draw weight. Oh, and does Gander Mountain let you try out bows? Let me know any suggestions!

Re: certification Good luck! In NY we have to have a bow course in order to get our license.

Re: Good Grades = Hunting Privileges I think that's a good idea. School first, hunting second... Good way to lay the rules and good luck!

Re: Where I will be opening day. *pics* Good looking spot! I should get a photo of my spots. Good luck!

Re: Is nicer always better???? I don't have top notch stands or equipment or clothing but you know what, it works! Like you, the hunt is all about being out in the woods and not knowing when a deer is going to come in range and then when one does, the adrenaline rush and making a good shot. To me, it isn't about having the scent lock clothing, or the best tree stand and bow for your money even though they might make hunting a more comfortable experience. It's the "roughing it" that gives us some of the the good hunting memories and stories in my opinion. I make do with what I have and do fine Good luck to you!

Re: Well, That\'s Cool That's great Chris! Glad you got some good things being sent your way!

Bet that title made you look, lol. Seriously I took this photo yesterday, it's safe, lol I wish I'd had this for the contest; not too often you get a decent photo of 2 Monarch butterflies making baby Monarchs for next year Enjoy!

Well God hasdone some work in my life this week. i'm a little bummed but I know I have to trust him. About 1.5 weeks ago I sent in an application to another college because I wanted to get in an Athletic Training program. I've been waiting and last night got a call from admissions and this lady asked me to call her back (I was online) So I call her back and told me she had talked with the head trainer and they though that the best option would be I should go elsewhere and get a Master's instead of another B.S. Also if I did their B.S. program, they were afraid I was really going to be in-debt and after 1 year, I might be "financially hurt" (that is what she said). So I talked to my mom, in tears, and said this isn't going to work out. As much as I like athletic training, I felt this isn't what God wants. Before my internship at the DEC camp, I was gun-ho for athletic training, but after camp, I felt deep inside that maybe I should be working in something outdoors related; that this is really what God wants. Some of the experiences I had working with the campers really hit a chord. So I called the lady back and told her to withdraw the application. I feel relieved somewhat in that I will start repaying back loans, but I will have some extra money and not be worrying about more loans. I also feel in my heart that this is the choice God wanted me to make. Maybe I'm not suppose to do athletic training yet, or ever, but right now He wants me in the outdoors. It's a little bumming but I know in my heart, this is His will. And now, since I don't have to figure out money so much, I may be able to get a decent bow for this season instead of next My plans right now, well I will be able to work custodial for 8 hours a day the first week of classes, then well, I'll be seeing if I can either find a job, or some type of online degree (Master's) in outdoor something (I saw it somewhere) or maybe go to a nearby cheap state college in the spring for something outdoor related to further my backround. Either way, God is showing His control right now and I'm just going to try to go with it.

Re: I have a dilemma...(long post) Thanks everyone! I will probably stay with the right hand since that is what I'm use to; it would be a pain to switch left handed. I'm going up to Gander Mountain this weekend so I'm going to look at bows and see what feels good and what's a good deal price wise; who knows, I may come home with a new set-up.

Ok, hopefulyl some of you may have some advice for me, and this may be a long winded post but I have to explain to make it more understandable Ok, when I was 8, a pine needle poked me in my right eye, damaged the real lens in my eye, so I had to have surgery to remove the real lens, which left me practically blind; not totally blind but say an apple is on the counter- I can see it's red and see it is round and shaped like an apple but its all really really blurry, like looking underwater without goggles. So I had to wear a contact lens and glasses for a few years. Now I just wear a hard contact lens in my right eye and can see out of it just about 20/20. Of course not the perfect visions as in my left eye, and I don't think my depth perception in my right eye is as great, but I pretty much almost have normal vision. So I've had to wear a contact lens in my right eye longer than I've had normal vision which is a little sad but oh well. So when the eye injury happened, I had to learn to shoot a BB gun left handed, and when I started hunting, I shot my gun left handed, so although I'm right handed, I'm accustomed to shooting a gun left handed. When I started bow hunting, I thought about left handed, but since I could see fairly well out of my right eye, I stuck with shooting right handed so I guess that's a big accomplishment to be able to shoot a bow, using an eye that is blind unless you have a contact in I've gotten a deer with bow every year that I've bow hunter - this year will be my 6th year I believe. Well I've started researching newish bows because my bow is ancient and I'd liek to have a new bow hopefully by next season but who knows with all this college stuff. My delimma is I've been wondering if I would be a better shooter/hunter if I switched to shooting a bow left handed because my left eye is obviously normal. In the future, like probably when I'm 50, my eyesight may not be as good because of the injury but thats along way from now. So I've been thinking maybe if I get a new bow, to get a left handed one, but I'm concerned about it being a hassle to learn to shoot a bow left handed; is this something that could be hard to do? I'm accustomed to shooting a bow right handed right now and with my contact in, can see fairly well, but it is really annoying when I get a piece of dirt or a smudge on my contact because then it messes up my right eye sight, obviously, duh If I switched to shooting a bow left handed, I wouldn't have to worry about having a perfectly clean contact, lol, even though it should be anyway, and I'd probably see better through my peep sight at dawn and dusk. So I'd really like to hear your advice/suggestions/encouragement if you have any to offer I held my bow last night and pulled it back with my left hand; my left arm isn't as strong as my right, lol, but it might work, just not sure if I should stick with shooting right hand in the future or switch to left now. Oh, and another question. Doesn't your dominant eye play in to shooting a bow? I know I read about to determine your dominant eye, make a triangle with your hands, look at an object through the triangle andm ove your hands towards your nose and whatever side the triangle seems to go towards is your dominant eye. I did it and each time it went towards my right eye, blocking my left so I'm pretty sure I'm right eye dominant anyway even if it is the injured eye- see what is part of my dilemma? I know I can rely on you guys for some help, so thanks in advance! Sorry for making this into a book, lol

Re: pretty ticked about this-(updated) Home school your kids and you won't have many problems, lol. No offense to public schools, but my mom homeschooled us to avoid the influences of public school and issues like there. Good luck though and kick his butt! Sounds like the guy is on a major power trip...

Re: 2003 Hoyt Supertec Left handed for sale I do need a bow, I really do and it is a great deal but I'm working on maybe going back to college so I have to wait. I was considering switching to using a bow left handed because I injuried my right eye when I was 8 and although I have a contact lens to see and shoot my bow I have right now, I was wondering if switching to shooting left hand would be better. Thing is I shoot a gun left handed, shoot a bow right handed, so not sure how well I could learn to shoot left handed.... Maybe if you've still got this bow in a few months after I see what college will cost me, I'll contact you...but if someone else wants it, don't wait for me:-)
