  1. Finally got this hung today for the first time, set-up on the edge of a piece of property I will be turkey hunting...S40 Homebrew I got with Christmas money. Hoping for some nifty pics:cool2: Anyone else got cams out for turkeys? Still want to hide a cam out on a spot on state land as well...waiting for the snow to melt off so there are no tracks.
  2. Trying to decide which arrows to get for my set-up. Mainly hunting and the occasional 3D or winter league - Elite Hunter 25" DL, 53 lb. Trying to decide between: Beman ICs Hunter or ProHunter 500 GoldTip XT Hunter or Velocity 3555 I'll probably have them fletched with a helical. Looking for some thoughts/ suggestions? I'm switching to a QAD HDX rest as soon as winter league ends so these arrows will be used off this rest. also wondering if keeping them at 24" is ok or if they should be a tad longer with the QAD? I've read some cut them longer for a drop away, some don't...
  3. There's an idea for cheap mineral licks...just go scoop some of the sand off the road edges in the spring...lol.
  4. Thanks guys. Yeah it's just accruing on the account. On another note did my federal tax forms...what a joke, I owe the fed. government money...and not just a few $ either....now I'm afradi to do my state tax forms...NY is already a rip off...
  5. Can't drive home from work anymore without having to stop for deer in the road. Yesterday worked 8-5:30pm andwhen I took a break around noon and went for a walk outside the hospital, I saw a deer bedded on a wooded bank behind the building. We watched it throughout the day and it never budged. I thought that was a little unusual, around 3:30pm I went back out with another person and walked a little closer, it was out about 40-50 and it looked at me but didn't budge, well it looked a little thin to me. It then finally stood up and it's right hind leg was dangling, not even stepping on it, took a few hops through the snow. So ended up calling the DEC and an ECO showed upwhen I was leaving...actually know him from camp and last year's deer that broke it's back. Well of course it hobbled off but we found some blood in the bed, not a ton but it also had diarrhea...he said that was not good, might already be starving, had it within viewing distance he would have taken care of it. I wonder how much wildlife management takes into consideration how many deer get killed on roads alone....
  6. Nice! Sticking another cam out today hopefully to start looking for birds...
  7. My other photo was way better I thought but that's ok, lol. Congrats to everyone on the great deer! My vote goes to Mach1.
  8. There is a big old bird here I've missed the last 3 seasons and I'm hoping he's still around...missed him last year when he came running in to my other cheap jake decoy...blew off a log instead. Wanted a diff decoy so if he's around this year, Ill hopefully fool him. One spring hunted state land and had a gobbler coming in, then he hung up, saw the decoys, and left. So I agree...they either work or they don't but for the most part I've had them work.
  9. Trying to look online but though might get an answer here....Working on my taxes and just wondering if I need to report the interest earned on a 403b tax sheltered retirement plan to federal or state (NY)??? So far I'm assuming no because it's tax sheltered? Wondering if anyone here has an answer?
  10. Wanted to pass on to check www.wingsupply.com I got a CarryLite Pretty Boy Jr. jake decoy for $20 (was originally $50 I believe). They have some other good deals on turkey decoys and calls as well. It's a nice decoy, hope the gobblers this spring think so:tt1::gunsmilie:
  11. Just a reminder to you guys and gals there is a sign-up for the 2013 Turkey Contest, make sure to check out the rules in the turkey room first! Good luck to everyone this year!:gunsmilie:

  18. Very nice! Yeah in NY, in my area anyway, you gotta put your work in to get a bird! I plan to get some more scouting done. would really like one in the freezer this year!
  19. Not me...have a hard enough time finding one with my shotgun...
  20. scott22890! Have a great day! No one seems to wish anyone a happy birthday anymore so trying to remember to acknowledge the birthday peeps:toot:
  21. colorado bob - I wish more people picked up deer around here...This deer definitely would have been too much of a mess to salvage but I see alot of car hit deer in fine shape left laying and I know there are people out there who could use the meat... Cros were already on the carcass when I went to work yesterday, at least it's feeding something.
  22. Turkey season doesn't start till May 1st here....but I happened to run into a lady yesterday who I ask every spring to hunt a piece of property behind her house that I've chased a big gobbler around on the last couple springs. She said of course it wouldn't be a problem this year  So I'm ahead of the game this year, lol. Probably in the next couple weeks get a cam stuck out there to see what's around. One of her kids hunts it sometimes on the weekends but during the week, it's basically just me...maybe this year I can meet a gobbler face to face there. The section I hunt is a south facing slope of hardwoods and brush then there is a nice grassy field.Turkeys seem to like it there. I also plan to do some more scouting on state land as well...would like to tag a bird this year! Good luck to everyone! anyone else got their spots picked out?
  23. Yeah, I think it has to do with the evolution of Facebook, Twitter, etc....Hopefully the die hards stick around...Even I noticed new people who register don't really post on here....
