Looks like eating tag soup again this year. I have 2 days left in my season to hunt due to my new job - Saturday and Monday.
I went out this AM, set up in a plowed field they turkeys had been frequenting. Well I heard a distant gobbler, sounded like he was roosted up on his usual ridge...that was it....this is the least I've heard this bird gobbler...I'm worried maybe he's shutting down/breeding over? Well probably around 7am, I glance up after checking the time, to see 3 turkeys fly out of the field...I don't know how they saw me, but I could see a deer standing on the edge of the woods, not sure if that spooked them or there was a predator around. I also saw a turkey walk back into the woods. I think they were all hens, can't be 100% but I know a couple of them were for sure. Never heard or saw anything else for the 5 hours I sat there. I know there's alot of hens - that gobbler usually had 1 he always is with, then the one night he had 6, then he had 2...so you never know.
I work Thurs/Fri/Sun, so I guess my 2 remaining days I'll try and roost him and get in close. Probably is last few days he's cut down on gobbling from the roost...don't know why...he's not responding to real owls/crows or mine for that matter.
