  1. In the 80s today, hot and sunny. Mowed the entire yard then took the weedwacker to wack around the chicken pen than take down the weeds around the edges of my food plots. Needless to say my arms are really tired now. Seeing some deer activity in our woods. Planning to take a walk this evening and go check a trail cam. What did the rest of you do today?

  4. Diana - who made the Realtree boots? The only brands of rubber boots that have held up for me are Lacrosse and Muck boots. I have 2 pairs - a pair of heavy Muck boots for cold weather, and a pair of Lacrosse Alpha Burly for fall like weather. I really like my Lacrosse.
  5. I need to get back into practicing and find some to go to....

    Car GPS?

Well I decided on and ordered a Garmin Nuvi 50 LM which has the Lifetime Maps update.
  11. OMG...both my poults today strutted...lol! No joke, they are still small enough to stand in my palm but their wing and tail featehrs are coming in. One this morning before I went to work strutted 3 times and then tonight when I got home, the other one did once...it's so freaking cute! Maybe they missed me,lol

    Car GPS?

Looking for input on a GPS for the car....leaning towards a Garmin...everyone I've talked to said Garmin. Anyone have one? If so, what model....likes/dislikes? Any key features I should look for?
  15. LOL I may be ending my season this year again eating tag soup BUT my 'turkey season' just changed to a 24/7 time frame...just got 2 Blue Slate turkey poults today....My mom told me about someone on the way home today that had 2 turkey poults left. Well I said jump in the car, we are going back! Just some average country folk had a bunch of chicks, ducklings, and 2 turkey poults left. They are Blue Slate....wanted $15 for both, I got her to take $10 for both. They were peeping and starting to yelp on the drive back home, loud little things compared to our chicks! Gave them some food and water, I don't think they had much at the other place. They started eating up the food and purring....it's awesome, turkey sounds 24/7 now! lol Not 100% sure but I think I may have 1 male and 1 female...hope so anyway...they are going to be pets, no freezer for them! Will get some pics up of them. I can really practice my calls now!
  16. Well if NY allowed us to hunt past 12pm, I would have had that bird killed long ago in the evenings! I was going to go out this AM, but was too exhausted from my job. Monday is my last day to hunt, going to go up tonight and see where he is hanging out hopefully, work Sunday then back up Sunday night to hopefully roost him. He's got a ridge he likes to roost on, and a couple fields he likes to feed in so if I can get right on his path and within range, done deal. We'll see....
  17. No, it's crayfish! lol Yeah you need alot of them but they are tasy - like mini-lobsters:-D
  18. Sorry I haven't posted in forever! Been a tough season....basically hunted this one and only bird...missed him once, got back on him and then the last time I hunted which was Weds., he gobbled once. Was going to go out this AM but too tired from starting my new job, and they are doing alfalfa in thefield I hike across. My last day to hunt will be Monday so will def. give it one last college try. A bit bummed I couldn't tag a bird this year - 3rd straight spring. Maybe I'll have better luck come fall.
  19. Well they are raking alfalfa tonight in the fields he was crossing, don't think I'll get up there to roost him, it's so hot anyway but will sneak in the morning to the top of his roost ridge and if nothing there, will hang out by that plowed field...The last morning I hunted, I found some of his droppings there so maybe it's just a matter of time. Will a gobbler this time of year, late in the season, still want to come in to hang with some 'feeding hens'?
  20. Well I'll see Friday night if I can't roost him or spot him somewhere. Will a tom continue roosting in the same general area? I'm thinking about setting up on that ridge he was constantly roosting on, maybe catch him off the roost.
  21. Looks like eating tag soup again this year. I have 2 days left in my season to hunt due to my new job - Saturday and Monday. I went out this AM, set up in a plowed field they turkeys had been frequenting. Well I heard a distant gobbler, sounded like he was roosted up on his usual ridge...that was it....this is the least I've heard this bird gobbler...I'm worried maybe he's shutting down/breeding over? Well probably around 7am, I glance up after checking the time, to see 3 turkeys fly out of the field...I don't know how they saw me, but I could see a deer standing on the edge of the woods, not sure if that spooked them or there was a predator around. I also saw a turkey walk back into the woods. I think they were all hens, can't be 100% but I know a couple of them were for sure. Never heard or saw anything else for the 5 hours I sat there. I know there's alot of hens - that gobbler usually had 1 he always is with, then the one night he had 6, then he had 2...so you never know. I work Thurs/Fri/Sun, so I guess my 2 remaining days I'll try and roost him and get in close. Probably is last few days he's cut down on gobbling from the roost...don't know why...he's not responding to real owls/crows or mine for that matter.
  22. I thought something really bad had happened....what's the saying about the boy who cried wolf....
  23. Wow, those are so cute! lol Great pics Matt!
  24. I spent the mornings this past weekend turkey hunting, afternoon catching up on stuff around the house and washing horses.
