  1. Thanks for the reply kidd. What did your wife say about it? What do you think of it? Do you think it will be too heavy for early into mid season when it starts to get chilly here?
  2. I am keeping an eye on 2 Scent Lok suits. One is the Full Season and the other is the Buckskin. I was wondering which you guys thought would be better for me here in Indiana. I would primarily use it for bowhunting early and mid season. I know early season it's pretty hot here but does get chilly as the evening progresses. I myself was leaning toward the Full Season set of the pants and Jacket, but wanted some other opinions. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Edit: Here are the links for the jackets of each. 3. Re: Best Rubber Boots I have both the insulated and uninsulated Lacrosse Alphaburly and Burly's and I can honestly say, these 2 pairs of rubber boots are the best I've ever owned. Great quality, great fit and definitely keep my feet warm. I recommend them 100% to anyone.
  4. Re: got one in the gut This sort of thing happens, keep that in mind. We all have to learn from things like this. My advice would be to take it slow and take your time, but most of all, DON'T GIVE UP! Good luck to you and let us know how it goes.
  5. Re: need sites and rest for my new bow I myself am using a Trophy Ridge Nitro Extreme sight and a Ripcord rest. Love them both!
  6. Ok heres the situation. I currently have the Under Armour Coldgear top and bottom, both in size LARGE. The bottom isn't bad, but the top is getting a little small in the arm length. I am seriously considering ordering some of the Polartec PowerDry Expedition stuff, but don't quite know if I should stick with size LARGE or step up to XTRA LARGE. I know with some companies the way the material is, the size can differ a lot and I don't want to order something that is too small or too bib, but there is nowhere around here that sells this stuff so I must order it online. I am 6'4, 165lbs, so yeah, I'm pretty much a toothpick. If you guys/gals could give me some advice that would be much appreciated! Thanks.
  7. This year has been by far the most frustrating year of hunting for me and I cannot for the life of me figure out why. I have not seen a shooter all year. I know they are on the property because my brother has seen them and have landowners talking about them. What is the deal? The past week or so I've seen just does and does only. Absolutely no bucks following them. Are they on the "lockdown" period? Any ideas? We have 4 stands set up and I've not seen a shooter out of either, but like I said, my brother has. I wouldn't care if I saw a shooter that was 100 yards away, I just want to see one so bad. Anyone else having this luck?
  8. I just don't understand how deer have that Sixth Sense. Tonight was a great example. Got settled into the stand and about an hour later I catch movement about 70 yards in front of me. 4 does were running from who knows what. Probably all the gunfire around them. I don't see them for about 2 minutes after they disappear behind some trees. Low and behold, I start to hear the leaves rustling to my right about 70 yards away. Here they come, straight for my stand. The path they take would lead them right under my stand. The wind is PERFECT, in my face, no way possible they can smell me, or is there? They get to about 10 yards when all of a sudden the lead doe decides she wants to see whats up in the trees. Yup, you guessed it, she gets nervous when I guess she saw my outline or the wind decided to start swirling. They all come to an abrupt halt and then retreat in a hurry. I couldn't shoot because I had my bow and she was facing head on to me, then they all scattered real fast. I just don't get how they can be so relaxed, not a care in the world out around 50 yards, but when they get close to your stand they know that something is there and isn't right. I guess thats what makes them so good at surviving, but it just makes me sick...lol. Sorry had to rant. Anyone else having this problem more and more? I'm hanging my stands around 20 feet with plenty of cover. I guess the deer just don't like me this year.
  9. Re: help with sights.. I myself use a Trophy Ridge Nitro Extreme 3-pin. I set mine to 20, 30, and 40. I love the Trophy Ridge line, but mostly all sights are good.

    Buck #2

Re: Buck #2 Awesome buck! Congrats on #2!
  11. Re: REALLY Small treestand?? My brother has a Gorilla Baby Kong. It is pretty small, easy to set up, and actually comfortable. I liked hunting out of it so much I ordered the slightly bigger model, the Kong. One of the best hang-ons I've purchased. I wouldn't compromise safety for something that is to be put up fast. I know you want to get in there as quick as possible, but just remember how high you are going to be and it only takes one time for you to fall or the stand to give and you go tumbling with it. If that happens you may not be able to get back in there again. Use some ratchet straps around the stand along with the standard one that comes with the stand, it will make it much safer. Good luck!
  12. Re: wifes mad What is that classic phrase? You snooze, you lose? lol tell your wife to relax. I'm sure there are bigger deer still out there!
  13. Re: busted poachers!! Great work! Absolutely amazing how STUPID some people can be. You did a great thing busting these guys. They deserve to be locked away for awhile.

    WooHoo!!!

After work today I got the news that made my entire day. I have been applying for a certain job for some time and today they finally called to have me come in and take some tests and interviews. I am so ready to get out of my current job(4 or so years). It will sure be a change going from getting up at 5am to going to work 2nd or 3rd shift, BUT I think I can manage with the pay! Guess I'll have to change my hunting ways too. Sorry it had to be you guys, but I just had to tell more people! Couldn't be happier! Okay maybe if I just harvested a 200" buck, but WooHoo!
  15. Re: Closing the deal That drag rag is a pretty good idea. Just another little tip here for everyone that I picked up while watching a Primos video. Well I don't know if I would call it a tip or just some common sense, but it has helped me. When you plan on calling or rattling to or for deer to come to you, it's best to have some cover behind you/around you, or a holler(sp?)/ravine near you. That way when you rattle/call to him/her they MUST come to you to check what is in the cover/holler or near there. If you are in the open in a tree or on the ground in the woods, that deer is more than likely NOT going to come because they will be able to stop about 60 or so yards out and look for what is making the noise. If that buck or doe doesn't see anything, you can forget them coming any closer. Now while this isn't always the case, I have seen it time and time again where I have been out in the open and couldn't get them to come close enough for a shot. Pretty frustrating. So I picked up that little tidbit in the video and am using it this year. I believe Will Primos said it best, but don't quote me exactly on this. It went something like, You can't hunt that buck where he is, you have to hunt him where he is going to be. Keep at it, you'll get em!
