  1. my father in law has some land near stuttgart and he went out last weekend and limited out on mallards. He said there are lots of birds down right now. Big cold front coming in this week so bring plenty of warm clothes
  2. oh, ain't duck huntin' fun. I've never timber hunted so I can't give you any specifics on timber. I mainly hunt open water and usually smaller bodies of water anywhere 2 to 5 acres. I have plenty of birds circle and never commit. A lot of the times it might be weather related. Those blue bird calm days are hard to decoy pressured birds. First there is very little movement on the decoys and the birds can really get a good look at the decoys. Some days the birds want a lot of calling--other days they want no calling. Some days a big spread works while other days a smaller spread works. what I have found that helps me is I made a jerk decoy. Took a magnum hen and tied a 2.5# weight as the anchor. I attached a bungie cord to the weight then decoy line from the bunbie to the decoy. Then a long piece of green trot-line from the decoy to my blind. The jerking created quite a bit of movement and the birds seem to decoy better for me. When I get birds (several groups) that don't commit then I know something is wrong so I change things up such as moving the decoys--taking some it or putting more out. Change my calling or don't call at all. You usually just have to experiement and change things up to see what they want.
  3. very sorry for your loss! It's a hard thing to do but in your heart you should know it was the best!!! God Speed Vito
  4. that caught me by surprise:rolleyes:
  5. i agree--boy needs to grow up!
  6. I am not a Dallas Cowboy fan but you will never find me cheering for baby Manning. After him and his dad thru a fit that he was going to be drafted by San Diego and baby cried that he will sit out a year if "I don't get my way"--I'd rather cheer for the Cowboys--who I hate then Baby Manning.
  7. no problem on this end--calling sounded great and nice shots!
  8. good luck--i stopped at two. I have no boy swimmers.
  9. congrats--best of luck to you and your wife!
  10. c'mon--Edmond doesn't have deer that big:) congrats on a great okie buck! todd
  11. i stored them in the fridge during January and planted them in the cup in February. The will germinate inside. You can replant them outside in the spring or even keep them in larger containers for their first year.
  12. actually what you do is get a large wooded drill bit--drill deep holes in the stump and fill those up with diesel--the diesel soaks into the wood and actually never reaches the soil. I use those really long drill bites--like 10" long. Works great!
  13. plant the sawtooths--the regular white oaks take up to 30 years before they produce nuts. The sawtooths take 5 to 7 years. Here is how I did it with great success. I took the acorns and wrapped them in a damp paper towel. I then put them in the vegetable/fruit area in the fridge. Left them there for one month. After the month I planted them in a mix of top soil and potting soil in a styrofoam cup. They germinated in about 2 to 3 weeks. After they were about 6" tall i transplanted them into some medium flower pots. In the spring then transplant them on your property. I never got to transplant them as my dog ate them in the yard:(
  14. If you're interested in learning a lot from a forum check out: http://www.refugeforums.com/refuge/ go to the Gun Dog room--lots of good info over there.
  15. check out article 1 and 2. All articles are great but the first two explained the force fetch procedure. http://www.dobbsdogs.com/library/retrievers/index.html If you're interested in a good training manual I would recommend the Smartwork/Smartfetch series--here is a link: http://www.rushcreekpress.com/page2booksdvds.html
  16. very cool but i think i like hunting on solid ground better:)
  17. I just watched We Are Marshall (I know most of you have already seen it) and found it a very touching movie. I never really looked into the history of the plane crash but after watching the movie and doing some online reading I was very impressed with how Bowden allowed the coaches to watch their game films and how Bowden helped them with the new offence--the vear. I've never been a big Bowden fan but now I am. todd
  18. that happens in a lot of places. When Gary Gibbs was coach at ZeroU his kids got threatened at school the year he was fired. lots of idiots out there--none in Stillwater though:)
  19. I don't know about that--the top college coaches are making as much as the pro coaches now. Les Miles benefits now after winning the NC was estimated at 3.4 million. What do the pro coaches make???

  22. 55 gallon drum with top and bottom cut out--soak stump in diesel then put drum over stump and light. There are products you can put on the stump that will help it rot quicker.

  24. Steve--nobody puts out cracked corn in the south---whole corn! They do have teeth to chew the corn!
