  1. I'm in Black River Falls to be exact, but then come hunting season who isn't?! There are plenty of turkey on the property so I'm already thinking about my spring season. Goodluck this season! -Shaun-
  2. Well I'll be sure to look into some of the models you all recommended. Thanks again. In the meantime, I will only invite friends of mine who run slower than me up to the property :-) I will be sure to upload some pics once I purchase my new gun.
  3. I am heading back up to the property this weekend so I will post up the outcome.
  4. Well see I had the compass in my pocket, I guess I was just trying to be a rebel by not using it initially. We shall see how things unfold. If I see him out and about I will be sure to stop & inform him. Otherwise, no need to bug the guy at his home.
  5. In Northwest Wisconsin, Jackson County to be exact.
  6. I'm a small guy and an encounter with a black bear or pack of wolves is something I need to be prepared for. I have encountered grizzlies and each time the bear to ran the other way. Great, but now I own land in an area where black bears & wolves are abundant. Handguns are allowed as protection even on the county land. Hand guns are brand new to me, I only grew up with shot guns, so any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  7. Thanks for the replies. I feel much better and it is obvious to tell the truth but reading it from others helps alleviate the guilt. Good luck this season all!
  8. No no not at all. I appreciate the feedback. The soil is sandy by me, which may be a little bit of a hump depending on the acids in the soil.
  9. I feel awful about this. I was walking the west side of my property. My neighbor over there is very quiet, keeps to himself & just doesn't want to be bothered. I found an easy walk, marked the tree and continued on until I noticed a tree stand. I turned right around and got out of there as fast as I could. I kept asking myself, "how did I get turned around? I was heading straight north what could have I done wrong?" I was just taking an evening walk and the worst part is the tree I marked must be on his property too. I wanted to go back and take the tape down, but once I realized I wasn't on my own property I did not want to keep circling around until I found the tape. My neighbor will eventually find the flagging. Should I approach him (keep in mind he does not like being bothered) or should I play dumb if it is ever brought up?
  10. Dogdoc- As far as equipment, I do not own a thing. However, I know it is not as simple as using a shovel. I am more interested in an irregular shaped food plot (I think a natural looking food plot will look great). I bought land along an atv route, so I will be getting one of those and working my way up with the extra equipment needed. First step is to begin clearing trees in certain areas and start marking areas with the most sunlight. As far as developing the land and begin planting, I would say at least Spring 2010.
  11. Greetings all! I have just purchased a small 9 acre wooded piece of land. It borders public hunting land but not many sources of food nearby. I am brand new to the idea of making a food plot. Can you offer any great websites for me to learn? I think 1 acre is large, but again that's inexperience talking. There are deer, turkey & black bear that go through. I'm going for the deer & turkey. Any help would be greatly appreciate. Thank you!
  12. Hey guys. I've been looking thru the bass pro and cabela's at the truck tents. They are the tents that fit on the bed of your pick-up. Anyways, I was curious if anyone had these or if anyone could suggest a specific brand. I'd love to just have a full hardcover top but I am on a budget.
  13. Re: Who got out today? Well I am here in IL. I went out turkey hunting my first time ever! It was so much fun. Yesturday (Sat.) right when I sat down I heard gobblers. So I yelped back gto them and they tottaly went off! I was so excited hearing them gobble. However, the whole day just a non-bearded hen came out. Today (Sunday), same thing. We had one gobbler now more than 100 yds away right when we sat down. He was so into the calls that I had a feeling he'd show...however, he never came out. Not sure why, we didn't have decoys so that maybe have been one reason. So all we saw were a few turkeys (far away). it was one heck of an experience for both my dad and I. I am sure glad I decided to try this type of hunting. Sure got me ready for some deer hunting now!
