  1. I absolutely think that there would be more bucks if you were restricted to shooting just one. No doudbt. Look at Kansas - they have a great buck to doe ratio (and a lot of mature bucks) because you can only shoot one buck...it is simple math. The alternative would be going to a "earn a buck" policy...which i think would do a lot of good as well (and would keep hunters such as yourself in the woods).
  2. obviously, you have to draw the line somewhere....the most important thing is that we implement regulations that will improve the healthiness of our deer herd (which includes a balanced buck to doe ratio). I think the best thing we could do is reduce the buck limit to 1 buck. Personally, I am just happy to be in the woods whenever I can...I hunt bow, rifle and muzzleloader. You still have to be a skilled outdoorsman to kill mature deer with a crossbow...why not allow a few more people (probably some exclusive rifle hunters) to spend more time in the woods each year with their family and friends? where is the harm in that?
  3. Texas is the best managed whitetail state in the country; their rifle season is well over 23 days long. The fact is that if people have more time (as long as you don't increase the number of buck tags) to hunt, they are going to be more selective - letting young bucks walk - in turn creating a better deer herd. Adding those extra days might be just what it takes to get some kid hooked on deer hunting...and that is the kind of momentum we hunters need. And the same goes for the crossbows as far as i am concerned; you could say the same thing about muzzleloaders (as i am sure it was argued before we had a muzzleloader season)...bottom line is that we need as many people interested in the sport of hunting as possible.
  4. "it gives more people a chance to get in the field"....isn't that exactly what our hunting community really needs!!?? We need all the help we can get!! You could say the same thing about the "primitive" blackpowder season....my muzzleloader is good out to 200 yards - not so primitive! Imagine if this type of thinking had prevented oklahoma from getting a muzzleloader season....think of all the people who would spend less time hunting (taking friends, children and family hunting) as well as a lot less money going into the sport of hunting. Think of the big picture here guys...
  5. Re: deer skull my brother found a few days ago... Im thinkin he will go right around 150 gross. He has good tine length including nice brow tines and really good long main beems
  6. Re: ***Here is a touchy subject...lets talk about this well said.
  7. Re: Diaphram Calls? That is very true TreeStandBowHunter....Every call sounds different in every hunter's mouth-its just like talkin...no two people sound exactly the same when they are speaking. Another thing is that people's mouths are shaped differently so one call may fit you great and another bad. But for me personally i really like the Primos Sonic Dome series and my favorite one is the Tripple with a Bat Cut and i also like the Primos A-Frame Diamond Yelper.
  8. Re: April 1st Gobbler Nice bird-i like the rig you've got set up on your shotgun!
  9. Re: Nesting in Oklahoma? I've also seen some hens alone mid-morning and the toms seem to be gobbling quite a bit on the roost but when they pitch down they go hushmouth...dont know why that is?
  10. Re: Brother\'s first bird and two more down! Hey huntinguide I'm from Deer Creek and those birds in the pics are from north of elk city. I've got a good buddy goin to college in claremore, he is on the ropin' team.
  11. Re: Brother\'s first bird and two more down! Ok sounds good! Thanks Shaun
  12. Well it was my little brother Clay's (8yrs) first turkey hunt. We set up on some birds early and my dad calls in five jakes real close with a big strutter in the back hung up at 35 yrds. Now Clay is shooting a 20ga. and my dad didn't want him to take that far of a shot so he gave me the green light. This was one of my best birds: 10 1/2 in beard 1 3/8 in spurs. An hour later we stop at another spot and Clay falls asleep in my dad's arms, i start calling a bit and here come two jakes runnin. My dad wakes him up and gets him ready, the bigger of the two stops at about 8yrds and Clay makes a great shot! Later on in the morning we set up once again and as soon as i start calling i hear birds gobbling over the hill and 5 min later 3 toms come in got one of them. What a great hunt it doesn't get much better than that! ive got pictures but dont know how to put them on here????
  13. Re: Mt 1st Bird Congrats nice bird!
  14. Re: Mechanical Broadheads Check out NAP Spitfires at www.newarchery.com. These are the most popular mechanicals not too mention probably the best mechanicals as well. They are extremely sharp right out of the box, they have a 1 and a half inch cutting diameter which is small enough for excellent penetration, and they fly true. Unlike other mechanicals Spitfires dont have o-rings so they are probably the simplest mechanicals as well. Good Luck!
