Re: aiming is all concentration I agree with Tony. So many times I know my pin is not center, but the arrow goes there. A few years back I finally got comfortable (confidence) at longer yardages, and let me tell you the mental part can return big dividens with shooting. I still wonder why my autopilot shoots better than myself, even if im right on. I like to think that if you believe in something you can make it happen. Like shooting a 300 Not there yet.

Re: got one in the gut Like Dartonman said, you will find this deer. When I track a deer, i think like a deer. Deer follow natural contours, and have a reason for them to be going a certain way. Gut shot deer=deer waiting for you to recover it. Follow the direction the deer went when you last saw it, and look for him in bedding areas. Typically a gut shot deer does not go far and beds down. So if it did not get jumped, its probably where it bedded down. We are all pulling for you.

Re: september buck pic (test) The bottom pick is an adult apple tree, but small apples. The apples were still growing when the pic was taken. This buck I beleive to be 3.5 yrs old, and have not seen him during light. Hope he can follow a doe to my stand.

Re: september buck pic (test) Here is the same buck later, about 1/2 mile from the other pic. He liked to cruise from apple tree to apple tree. Have not seen the buck in the woods though. Im just excited to start sharing again.

Re: Got one, but w/ bad news.... I feel for you buddy. If you got that sort of penetration, he is somewhere to be found. I would not give up. Like others said, grid patterns, and dogs can help. Also listen for coyotes or crows to draw attention to a carcass. Bowhunting is always about improving our skills, and learning. Sorry to hear no luck yet. Let us know if you find him. We are pulling for you.

Re: Got one, but w/ bad news.... How far did your arrow penetrate? Without an exit, and a high entry, blood trail would be almost nothing. Did you see how the arrow was sticking out of the deer, was it flat like when shooting from ground, or more vertical like 20ft up in a tree? If your up in the tree, and your arrow is going at a steep angle down, with 5in of penetration you would be starting to get lung. Keep looking to find your arrow, and keep searching for the deer. If its not an issue of having to let a deer lay to expire and backing out to keep from jumping him, keep searching around for any sign of the buck. Dont give up even on marginal shots, it will make you feel better knowing that you searched high and low for the buck and did what you could. It will pay off, either way.

Re: What A Crock I too feel that its curtious to ask permission to get your deer when you know its expired. If I know that the landowner will give me grief, dont ask and get your deer. I feel that my downed game is very special to me, and would make sure to get it. Game wardens can help with these property issues.

Re: Long Fletching VS Short Fletching!!!! I use short fletch 3" AAE, and like the reduced weight to add to an increase in FOC. Fletch style can be dictated by your rest type, but the most important things are vane clearance, and making sure to paper tune. As stated before give other vanes a try and see how you like them.

What peep do you have and do you like it? Shoot a two strand horizontal peep (RAD super duce). Like two strands better than three for sure, but was thinking of going with maybe a G5 meta or fletcher. I think the view would be better with a round sight hole at full draw compared to a compressed one. What do you think. EJ
