Form: $62 Eyes: $14 Ear Liner: $7.50 Tan/chem: $7.00 Septum/nose: $13.00 Clay/ glue etc. $4.50 = $108.00 Now add in for ,Building, Elec, Water, Gas, Phone, Vehicle, Insurance, Work Contracts, ID Tags, Paper Work, Licenses, Educational expense, Travel Expense, Competitions or work shops, Charge Offs, Lawyer fees,,, yadda yadda yadda.......Now tell me $350 is rediculous... I figure atleast $225 for all expenses per competition quality shoulder mount and that leaves me a small profit of $175.....$175 div by roughly 14hrs= $12.50hr nothing to brag about IMO, If this was my full time Job i would be charging $425-$475 and if people didnt want to pay this, then there are plenty other guys down the road who is just starting out and will charge $225...hey you get what you pay for!
-
LOL......You have to be kidding!!!!......Those whom charge less than $350 will not be in Business long IMO!!!.. "Wheres the dead horse when you need it?"

Yes it is freeze dried. Only way to go in my opinion for a realistic look.

I dont get the opportunity to mount many turkeys but here is the one I just finished.
-
RTF are you trying to light me on fire? Actually this is a Mckenzie 64D Semi Sneak Head Down series. I monuted 1 deer on a Rinehart form 8yrs ago, never again. I am not a fan of Rinehart.

I want to become an official measurer for P&Y, I have the application all filled out but dont really know how I go about getting the 2 sponsors. Anyone have info on this? Thanks Rick

I do beleive its this guy!! I have been looking for a replacemant cape for this deer for over a year now. I finally located one and it will be here in the middle of the week. He is next to visit the ole mounting stand, and he has been Dying to come back to life

Freezer burn is no longer a problem. Give these 2 products a try and see for yourself. http://www.whitetailsystems.com/HardTissueTonic.html http://www.whitetailsystems.com/Stop-Rot.html

Only Quality. I compete at state level, so every mount I do is done with competition quality in mind, its good practice. If I would not take it to competition and compete with it, well then I am not satisfied with it. "Remember though a quality mount starts with a Quality Speciman"

Exactly why recommend using Baqucil or Soft Swim to whiten skulls. As with any chemical you must use extreme caution. The above chemicals listed will eat your skin off!

here is a buck i mounted last summer, I finally got around to adding habitat to it. before someone ask its a mears wall pedastal.

Advice: Taxidermytube is a waste of your money. Rhinehart is not the best to follow. Seek other Instructor for learning taxidermy. Keep your full time job if you like a steady pay. No shed will be big enough for PT/FT. You will never have too many tools for Taxidermy. If you plan to make a living at Taxidermy think again. Suggestions: Save your money for good schooling. Practice on your mounts not your customers. Bigger shop is better, room is always limited. Never give up at PT because FT does not PAY! Spend your earnings wisely. Always be thinking ahead. Just a few things I can come up with.

I Charge!! I charge $380 for standing, roosting, flying, and $450 for full strut. I took a full strut to comp this year and received a 1st place blue ribbon and a trophy for highest score bird.
-
You Could Always Contact Dan Rhinehart He offers videos and has a school located in Wisconsin. I know I didnt just do that.

I agree, I wouldnt follow too much of Dans ways. And second I wouldnt follow much of what any Taxidermist does, everyone has their own way od doing things and thats ok, but for me good reference photos will show you the correct way!

No they are not black, they may appear to be black to the eye but indeed is multiple colors. Take a deer to competition with a black nose and your just askin for trouble. I personally use, flesh tone, gray, black umber, burnt umber, gloss. These 4 colors when applied in specific orders will give you a natural look that can be found in most deer. Keep in mind if the nose is dry it will appear to be darker in color.

The above mentioned is exceptional advice.

TRY THIS Instead! Go to your local pool & Spa shop, and buy some Baqucil Oxidizer %27.5 peroxide and it can be reused. The pool and spa shop I went to didnt carry Baqucil Brand but had Softswim C or something like that, it was also %27.5 and is sold by the gallon, cost me $14.99+Tax. It does a wonderful job whitening skulls with no mess.

I have 2 of the 08 models that are taking aprox. 176 pics a week on each of them, have had no broblems with them yet. However if you are looking to get some good color photos you must have a fair amount of sunlight in the general area of the cam otherwise it will only take B/W photos.

RTF is right on with this, you cant go wrong with an acid bath and Lutan for flat skins.
-
RTF nailed it right on, no mounted fish should have a fishy smell to it, it was poorly cleaned and rushed IMO!

I will chime in here, I personally agree with artisticwhitetails and others that your taxidermist does not intend mounting your turkey, 7yrs is way too long, and NEVER,NEVER pay for any work in full up front. I dont know all the details about the taxidermist who has your bird but being a taxidermist myself I will tell you 7yrs is unacceptable, 1-1.5yrs is very acceptable for someone doing this business full time. Also I work on all mounts and complete them in the order they were received this insures the customer gets his mount back in a timely manner. Did you sign a contract? If so did the contract say NO REFUNDS PERIOD? or did it say no refunds after conmencement of work? Either way you are entiltled to your money back being that the bird is still in his freezer untouched! Contact a Lawyer with your problem also contact your local DNR, I am suprised the DNR has not questioned this matter during inspections. Good luck!

Sure, here is what I can tell from these pictures. 1. left ear should be turned down more, a ear on a live deer in this position would collect water if it were raining and the deer simply would not be able to hear. 2. it appears to me that the butts of the ears have no definition and are improperly shaped. 3. inner ears on a live deer should be a light fleshy pink with very little hint of brown, the ears on your deer are BROWN. taxi most likely didnt airbrush them and you could probably expect them to get darkr in color over time. 4.upper brow flat, should be full looking and protrude over upper eye lid. 5. dark color around eye is too dark or bold, should be lighter and softer looking. 6. nose pad should not be black, it appears to me as it is not taxi-ed in proper place and is deformed. 7. bottom lip exposed too much, it should not extend past the lower part of the nose pad unless it was an open mouth. this is just what i see from the pics, I am not saying its a bad looking deer, but compaired to live photos of a deer your mount has some minor problems.
