  1. I have only shot the crimson talons and Rage. I love them both. the Talons are cheaper but cause just as much damage. I have not had any problems with them not shooting straight. Maybe you have a defective batch. BTW, I found some talons on Ebay for $15 a pack.
  2. Thanks for the advice guys. I can't wait for the season to start. I bought some mouth calls and have been practicing. I think i am getting them down fairly good. I am excited to get my daughter out there. I saw a huge tom the other day. Even though it would be a nice trophy for me I really hope she has the opputunity to take it.
  3. I have never hunted turkey either. My 14 year old daughter has taken an interest in hunting this year and really wants to go turkey hunting. I have some woods I can hunt and there are lots of turkeys there. I am going to take her for youth weekend here in MO. I am going to use a blind with her (she is fidgety). Should I set the blind out a week before so the turkeys are used to it or does it matter? I know with deer hunting it is best practice to have the blind sit a few days for the deer to get used to it. Just curious if the same applies to turkey.

    New bow

After reading review after review then shooting the bow to the point I think the pro shop guy was going to kick me out I bought the Attack. Man that thing is scary fast. I love it. I can't wait til the season opens back up in September. I am going to take it turkey hunting with me in April.

    New bow

Ok all I have a chance to buy a Bear Attack for $449 at a local pro shop. He is closing out his 2010 models and selling this off. Anyone out there have one? If so what are some of you pros and cons? I shot one earlier in the year and liked how it shot and I have seen some good reviews. Just curious what my fellow hunters here think.

    Snow Day

It is snowing here in SWMO. Only a few inches so far but enough to make my boss decide to shut the office down early. So I hit the woods. It was a little late but well worth it. I did not see any deer but I saw three bald eagles flying around. One came with in 15 to 20 feet of me in my stand. I think he was going to perch himself on a limb in an adjacent tree but pulled up at the last minute. It was cool. The woods are awesome in the snow. I hope the boss calls in the morning and says take calls from home. I will be taking them from the woods .
  7. I took a doe the first weekend of November. Four came out within 20 yards of my stand. I was waiting on the biggest one to get into a better postition when she spotted me and took off. The next closet was in a great postition so I moved on to her while she was trying to figure out why the other one took off. I had perfect shot placement. She went about 40 yards and dropped. I have a Fred Bear Element and used Crimson Talon broadheads. I did not see her drop because she was in the woods but the blood trail she left was very easy to follow.
  8. Saturday morning I was in a stand and had just shot a doe. I was letting her sit a bit before I climbed down to find her. I heard a deep grunt so I threw a grunt back. He grunted again. This time I grunted and followed with a rattle. All the sudden I heard a freight train coming right at me from behind my stand. Then he stopped. I waited and waited but nothing. I never heard anything else. Should I have grunted again when he stopped or did I do the right thing but wasn't convincing enough? Btw, I made a nice shot on the doe and found her within 75 yards of the shot.
  9. Thanks guys. It hasn't even been a week yet and I am jones'n. So I am going to have to go trout fishing this weekend with a group of family and friends.
  10. Well, yesterday was the last day of bow season here in MO. I only harvested one doe but saw plenty just not the big brutus I wanted. I will have a bad taste in the off season. I missed a doe last night :bang:. Oh well that is how it goes. Does anyone hunt small game during the off season to satisfy the addiction? I was thinking coyote or maybe ferral hog. I do not know how to start for these two though. Any suggestions? I basically want to get back into the woods and continue shooting more than target practice.
  11. That is an awesome buck. It is always rewarding when you acomplish a a goal you have been working at for a while.

    How to

OK guys and gals it is time for the annual rifle season to start here in Missouri. I gun hunt and bow hunt but never call during bow season. This year it seems the bucks are out chasing does more than I have ever seen. I hear everyone talk about calling in deer and gave it a go but did not have any luck. I have a grunt call, a can and a rattle bag. I know I dont want to call very often and when I do I need to wait 15 to 30 minutes to see what comes up. My question is how do you call? I usually give a few grunts followed by a can call but like I said I have no luck. At this point I would be happy calling in a spike just to show me it works. Any suggestions?
  13. Good job man. I am still waiting for my big brute like that to come along. Just a doe with my bow. Congrats. Quality deer there.
  14. This is my first with a bow. I have killed a couple with a rifle. I have only been hunting deer for 7 years and this is my 5th year with a bow. I have had a chance to shoot smaller deer with my bow before but have passed to let them grow bigger headgear. This was the first big doe I have been able to get a shot on.
  15. Good job. That is cool to hear about your experience with your friend.
