  1. Just wondering if the 250 Savage has the UUUmmph to take down whitetails at 300 yards? More? Given I do my part of coarse. Thanks
  2. I got my box yesterday and was blown away with all the reloading stuff he sent too. Dies, brass, and about 5 or so different weight projectiles. All that with an OTT 24" full bull fluted 250 Sav, forend, and 6 hole base. $410 Man I scored huge on this deal. I just ordered a stinger stock set in Timber camo and have a 6.5-20x50 piece of glass for the top. It should be quiet the little demon when I am done.
  3. I am thinking of trying the boy on this for his 1st deel cal. I, naturally, will be using something much much bigger. LOL I am a Gold Member ya know.. LOL Thanks guys.
  4. Just got my hands on a sweet custom 250 Savage Encore rifle bbl. Full bull fluted. (OTT built) I have no experience with this cal and was wondering how well it would do on VT deer? If it will not then I suppose I can use the Encore 500 S&W handgun I have. LOL Thanks.
  5. Yep thats a steal! Congrats on the new toy!
  6. I admit I am bit nervous to let the 1st one fly but I do plan to start out with lower grain ammo to begin with and work up from there, once I am use to shooting the beast... Should make a pretty good hole in these VT deer. LOL
  7. Yes the 500 demands a 3rd if not 4th ring to help with the recoil. Its been known to kill scopes quickly... Charlie-I am counting on the brake to brake well. LOL However I know there are some choices of ammo out there to fit my bill. Not everything needs a 700g pill outa one of these bad boys... The gun in the pic is not going to be mine completely. I am buying the bbl, base, grip and forend for $625 shipped. I have a line on a SS frame for another $275 shipped. Scope will be a 2.5-8x32 Leupold ($460) with as many rings as I can fit on it. LOL It will not be cheap by any standard... BTW, This is my "getting a 3rd divorce and selling my house" present for myself.
  8. Will this gun raise my OTPG status to Gold member...??? LOL
  9. Ok I am done foolin around now. Got me an OTT Encore with brake and fluted in SSS coming soon. Found a heck of a deal used. Comes with a stratton base and custom GA Jim grip and forend in lam grey. This otta make them VT deer nervous come next fall. LOL Just need to pick up a Leupy 2.5-8x32 scope and about 4 rings to hold it. Here is the bbl and what she will look like when I am done will it. The scope will be slightly different is all.
  10. Well team I am out. Our last deer season closed last Sunday and I saw nothing. I hope the 5 points I brought to the table helps. Good luck to those still out there!
  11. Finally got all the pieces together for my "custom" Encore 7mm Rem Mag handgun. Had everything but the bbl for the longest time but as everyone else says who has used OTT as a gun smith, its worth the wait. Sorry no pics yet, Wife took the digital camera as well as the computer when we split up. Some stats: Encore blued frame with silver hammer, 13 oz trigger job springs and stoning, 19.5" 7mm Rem mag heavy tapper bbl with OTT sharks gill brake all in matte black, Burris 3-12x32 ballistic plex scope also in black matte, Leupold dual dovetail rings and base, gray lam boyds rifle forend and Ga Jim TR grip. 6 shots with Federal 150g NP factory ammo had me a 1.5" group at 100 yards. I know it can do better but I stopped there since it was currently bow season and for me that grouping was pretty darn good for hunting whitetails in VT come this Nov. (JMO) Hopefully I can get some pics up soon.
  12. This is my 3rd year using them and I love them and their preformance.. 2 years ago. My brothers buck went less then 30 yards. He hit the very rear edge of both shoulder blades and got full pass threw and the head was not damaged but on blade did bend a tad. Still usable but since they are super easy to replace he did so. I hit a doe this year in the rain at 8 yards and had a blood trail literally 6" wide. Due to being stupid, I kept pushing this deer because I was worried the rain would wash the trail away. Well it finally did and I ended up pushing the deer into the swamp and never found her but the broad head went threw her and sunk 8" into the ground. I washed it off and did not even need to touch up the blades. Nothing bend or nicked. (I did in fact touch them up for that razor sharp since they encounter dirt but I really did not need to) A second doe I hit this year. This time at 35 yards, hit the center of ribs high and she spun on the shot so it exitted mid belly low, big holes but the exit plugged with stomack matter causing little blood. Found her 50 yards from the shot. Broadhead in perfect shape after being about 5" into ground. well one blade was nicked but not bent. I find them to fly exactly like my FPs but now-a-days it seems like everybody says that right. LOL Naturally why wouldn't they or they would be using something else if it didn't. IMHO great mech head. I will continue to use them.
