  1. This waterfowl hunt was the 3rd annual to help young hunters learn how to hunt ducks and geese. Ducks Unlimited, CWA (California Waterfowl Association), Sprague's Sporting Goods, the Yuma Valley Rod & Gun Club, and many other sponsors donated gear for the young hunters. Older goose hunters volunteered as mentors to teach and call for the kids also. Huge thanks to all who helped make this a huge success. Camcorder was a Canon GL-2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrI_3s-GQDc
  2. This was the 16th annual San Jacinto Wildlife Area Junior Pheasant Hunt. This event is put on by the California Department of Fish & Game (DFG) along with Quail Unlimited (QU). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gn42L0P274M
  3. They found Larry!!! He's alive. They took the rig Larry was driving and the jeep. The contacts for investigators on this matter is Sgt. Jason Lurkins, Coconino S.O 928-310-8889, and Det. Larry Thomas 928-226-5032. The vehicle info for Larry's truck is a 2005 Ford F-250 Super Duty, diesel, dark gray, with AZ license plates CD-32204.
  4. I'm posting this on behalf of Don Martin, Ariizona Wildlife Outfitters. For those of you that haven't heard, my friend Larry Heathington, the owner of Sheep Limited, who lives in Williams has been missing since Friday, September 11th. Larry was suppose to meet two clients on Friday in New Mexico to go on a private lands antelope hunt, and when his cousin last spoke to him he was two hours from Secorro. He hasn't been heard from since Thursday afternoon. Larry was in his gray Ford F-350 Super Duty, towing his Jeep. A missing person's report has been made with the Holbrook, AZ Police Department as someone close to Larry said they had seen his truck/jeep on Monday in Holbrook. Please, we are very concerned about this situation and fear for Larry's safety. If you know Larry, you know it is not like him to not show up where and when he is suppose to. If you know ANYTHING about where Larry is, or have seen his vehicles please contact the Holbrook PD or call me at 928-681-4867. Thank you, Don Martin Arizona Wildlife Outfitters Larry is on right here is the picture of his jeep note the custom plates....SHPLTD ARIZONA PLATES
  5. The JHO crew is back in action shooting squeaks at Bryson Hesperia CA. Rifle was a .22 Win Mag. Ammo was the new CCI TNT Green non lead ammo for the lead free Condor Zone in CA. The hit to miss ratio was down due to the ranges we were shooting. Usually you can get close to these squeaks but they've been hammered all summer and we could only get about 125 yards from them to set up. Most shots were 125 yards + which is a bit much for a .22 winmag. Lots of holdover on this shoot. Part 1 Part 2
  6. For this video I was using the onboard mic on a Canon GL-2 camcorder. On the mic I had a foam windsock. If you can't fit a windsock on your camcorder you can tape some foam over the mic opening to stop the wind howling sound.
  7. I was deer hunting near San Diego CA and saw this bobcat sneaking along the hillside. I squeaked a couple "kisses of death" and the bobcat came up so close I finally had to put the camcorder down and shoo him away before he pounced on me. I had bobcat tags in my pack too. Time to get a double gun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rphvzgandac

  10. One huge change to the regs this year for the CA youths. They get 2 weeks for a youth turkey hunt season after the main gun season. Thanks DFG!!! http://www.dfg.ca.gov/regulations/07-08-wf-uplnd-lands-regs.pdf
  11. Part 5. This video has info on camo and how UV brightners make the camo glow to deer and other animals. The video also shows how to get rid of the UV glow. I'd say one of the biggest leg ups I've found in deer hunting is using the UV camo wash. I always wondered how whitetails would bust me from 80 yards out in a stand when I hadn't even blinked an eye. The UV glow made sense so I started using the UV wash and it was a dramatic change, especially when I still hunted and would bump into deer at real close range. They might smell me but they would look right through me, even when caught out in the open with no tree or brush to break up my outline. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wRe-OAaFSk

  17. About 40+ people showed up at the Sonny Bono Salton Sea HQ which impressed the FWS folks. Lots of work was done on the blinds. Big thanks to Steve (ilovesprig) and MoutchcallinMatt for getting all this organized. Thanks to Randy for the hospitality at his home and for manning the grill. We caught a break with the temps staying below 100. Thanks also to everyone that showed up and pitched in. Kudos to Jason and staff at the Sonny Bono Salton Sea NWR for also letting us show we CAN git r done My cam had some problems later in the day so I didn't get the BBQ on tape. Wister is brutal on cams as we all know from what it does to our shotguns. The silt/dust and alkaline air are not the best for sensitive electronics. Lots of good food at the BBQ like frog legs from Steve (ilovesprig), Redneckhunter's wife sent the magical brownies that disappear in 2 seconds and other good eats. On the video we had a surprise visit when this dog came crashing out of the brush out in the middle of no where. Dave (calfowler) and I jumped back he surprised us so quick, I thought it was a rabid coyote charging us since I just saw the head pop out and a streaking canine charge toward Dave. Turned out it was Bobo the dog just headed over for a quick dip in the W11 pond we were working on. His owner's finally caught up to Bobo. Poor Dave, I think I heard him give one of those primal yawlps when you think you're about to get it. Here's the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKhszR0Axyk
  18. Cam is a Leaf River DC-2 Blonde mama and junior. Hairy black one. Same hairy black one???? Kind of looks bluish huh? Blue phase?
  19. Re: Bear game cam pics Thanks Bond, finally getting some time to visit the boards again. Buck Magnet 007, we've taken some 450 pounders from this area and these 2 are much bigger bears judging from the height of them and their bellies. For reference that fallen tree just past the bears is 3 foot across. It's been my experience from bear hunting 26 years that when the bear's belly hangs down to the ground the bear is 400+. As you can clearly see the one bear's belly is almost on the ground and the other is close. I also have a buddy who does depredation trapping in this area and he's trapped some doozies near this area when they venture into town. There are also several 500 pounders and B&C bears taken in this area every year so the genes are there. The old WR B&C was from just down the road taken by Loren Nodolf. I think his bear is now #3. Skull score, not weight that you guys go by on the eastern side. We'll make sure and weigh them if we get lucky and stick one. As we all know it's tough to judge size from a pic since it's one dimensional and the camera distance can distort the true size like in the bass pics where the guy holds the fish near the cam and stands back
  20. San Bernardino NF in SoCal. Westy's secret spot. We hope to stick an arrow in one of them come September. Cam is Leaf River DC-1 2 bruisers came though this past weekend. This lil black is 250 maybe. This is the first bruiser. Wet after a rain it looks like. We're guessing 450 -500 pounds. This area is known for big bears. Joel Shows and his hounds helped get 2 650 pounders on the other side of this ridge back in the late 80s. I say this is a different bruiser, more cinnamon in color you think?
  21. Re: Anyone Using The New Digital Cuddeback 3.0 Yet My error KTMMike, I wrongly assumed the post was borrowed from our game cam forum. My point was to post the data with the pics so there was no confusion on what cameras were used and the test conditions.
  22. Re: Anyone Using The New Digital Cuddeback 3.0 Yet Here's the info I posted on the flash test. Comparison test showing pics taken with four brands of digital game cameras: Cuddeback's New 3Mp Model Moultrie's 1.3mp Model Stealth's 2.1 Mp Model Leaf River's 4 Mp DC-2BU Test Conditions: Deer heads were mounted on three posts located at 30', 40' and 50' from the post on which the cameras were mounted. Each camera was mounted to the same post at the same distance at the same height. No picture is edited or enhanced. All pictures taken at the same location on the same night under the same conditions. I'll try and get a trigger test done here in the next month. How fast a cam can take a pic and then another pic from when it first detects an animal. I'd also like to ask that if you want to post my work or pics on the Internet you please ask me first. It's common courtesy and it avoids the confusion like above when only part of the work is posted and that generates questions and confusion. Thanks ~Jesse
  23. Branson Bow Bash. Tails n' Scales 05 Branson MO April 30th - May 7th, 2005 (This is NOT a Pro event. This is a light-hearted gathering to meet and make new friends in the world of archery) Last year we featured a new Bowtech Patriot to be awarded as a grand prize for the largest turkey taken during the Branson Bow Bash. Problem is, no one took a bird! Plenty of opportunity, with birds so close you could hear them drumming. But, turkey hunting is a sport unlike any other in that you are battling a keen opponent and everything has to be just right. Too much fidgeting, leaving too early, getting there too late and you stack the odds even deeper against yourself. Such was the case in 2004. But, we learned we had a hidden gem right here under our nose the whole time and never had a clue. Two of our participants took a chance that Table Rock Lake might hold some excellent bowfishing and brought their gear with them. Lucky for us, they did and turned a fun event into an all out excellent time. Quite literally, bowfishing became the focal point of fun and turkey hunting became secondary. Next thing you know, we have ourselves a new lease on life and a grand promotion to boot. The Branson Bow Bash, 2005 - Tails and Scales. Guests to our Bow Bash will see firsthand the use of decoys, calls, patterns for shotguns and suitable blinds for wild turkey. Missouri restricts turkey hunting to the morning hours so plan on being finished by 1 p.m. In the afternoon, we will head out to Table Rock Lake where anyone can try their hand at bowfishing for carp. The grand prize will be awarded to the person who takes the largest turkey and carp by weight during the Bow Bash. If no one is able to harvest both a gobbler and a carp, the bow will be awarded to the person who harvests the largest turkey then the largest carp. All guests of either Hunter's Friend or DreamCatcher are automatically entered into the Grand Bird and have the best chance at winning the prizes by hunting early. So try to make plans and attend the Branson Bow Bash. Who knows? You could wind up with a New Bowtech Patriot! More info at http://www.huntersfriendresort.com/bbb.htm
