  1. Distance will be determined by the pattern, at a given yardage, that your gun/choke/load combination produces. You want more than 5 pellets within a "harvest zone," basically from where the feathers meet the flesh of the head upwards including the neck vertebrae and the brain. Ideally, you set up a target at varying distances and shot a few (or many depending on your wallet and interest) loads with different size of shot. The best pattern at the furthest distance is your effective range. This is a very simplified version of the process and I'm sure it has been covered in greater depth here on the forum. Long story short, if you want a "bad mutha" set-up for the 835, go with the Rhino Choke spitting out a 3.5" Nitro--2 1/4 oz load of 4-5-7 hevi. Is this necessary? NO? But the results will speak for themselves.) Good Luck!
  2. I'll play: nodlew adult eastern Thanks!
  3. Re: What gun would you reccommend for skeet/trap? Any shotgun will work. I started shooting trap this past summer and every style and price range of shotgun was represented--SS, fancy O/U, pump, autos, etc. The important thing is to get out and shoot. For what it's worth, for trap I shoot a Browning BT-99. It is a sweet gun, but definately not required.
  4. I know this is a Turkish manufactured shotgun, that was previously imported by Armsco. I have read good things about the CZ Redhead--good value. Does anyone have experience/advise on these guns? Thanks!
  5. Re: Anyone have luck getting a surplus tag in WI? No...then, yes At noon, I was not able to log onto the site to purchase a license. I contacted a local sporting good store and they basically confirmed your story in that there were huge lines and system issues. I was able to get a tag about an hour ago for the 2nd to last season. The more chances I can get out and chase the birds the better!!
  6. Re: an osceola for team 19 CONGRATS Hunting is truly an emotional rollercoaster...lowest of the lows and highest of the highs. Great bird and awesome hooks!!!!
  7. Re: Realtree Turkey Team #19 Devil's Tower, WY...I saw it this summer. My brother-in-law and I rode our bikes to Sturgis,SD. The Black Hills are beautiful...I want to chase Merriams there sometime soon. What an AWESOME way to start out your turkey hunting career...it took me 3 years to bag my first turkey
  8. Re: Realtree Turkey Team #19 [ QUOTE ] No less the 15" breads, 4" spurs and at least 50# in weight. [/ QUOTE ] What sub species are you hunting in VT?? You guys grow them BIG J/K By the sounds of it you will be in for a little adventure, and that, to me, is the best part Bird Eye Mountain...pretty cool, you will need to post some pictures of it. Hey Ksbowhntr77, Are you chasing Easterns or Rios?
  9. Re: Realtree Turkey Team #19 GrnMntMan--I liked your idea of, "Tom-asaurus Wrecks." I plan to get out this weekend and do a little shed hunting and turkey scouting. My neighbor found a nice one this past wkend, he believes that he has the bucks shed from last year. On the way home from work yesterday, I saw a flock of 25+ birds in a picked corn field just to the North of the land I hunt on...hard to count exactly at 60 mph I have a pretty good idea where these birds are roosting, so I hope to confirm it this weekend.
  10. Re: Realtree Turkey Team #19 Hey All, Sorry for not dropping in sooner. I am cool with any name that everyone likes!!! I am from NE Wisconsin, aobut 40 mi SW of Green Bay. I am hunting the 3rd season in WI--April 19-23rd. I haven't been turkey hunting long, 4 years, but I have been successful the last two years. I am married with a 20 month old daughter. I am fortunate to have a willing wife, access to land, and a work schedule that allow me to spend a decent amount of time chasing critters--mainly whitetail and turkey. I am looking forward to hunting with family and friends this upcoming season. I will be hunting with my brother-in-law, his 2nd time turkey hunting, I want to be a part of his bagging his first Tom! I plan to go with my father-in-law and also with a buddy that will be his first time out. The population of turkeys in my area has been increasing every year..we will have a great time chasing these critters...and hopefully have good opportunities! I have a question for the team--are any of you using any of the Hevi Shot or similar shot? Experiences? Advise? I shoot a Rem 870, 3", .670 Pure Gold Choke. Thanks in advance, Weldon
  11. Re: a few cherry slate over glass calls Beautiful! Please tell me how one chooses the combination/configuration of the material--I have heard of slate over glass, glass over slate, double glass, single glass, aluminum, other combinations I presume exist. I know each combination will have a different tone, but are there general rules of thumb. Thanks
