How much are you willing to spend?? Top: Reconyx, these are the best of the best but you get what you pay for. Ive also used: DLC Covert: runs around $200 in my area. the battery life is unreal! and the picture quality is above average, also comes in IR Moultrie D-50: $100 .. It was a really good camera for the money. didnt have IR though. Bushnell Trophy Cam: $200.. IR and took really good pictures day and night, however, the cam started to bugger up and started taking pictures that were half day/IR during the day after about two weeks, I most likely got a dud but i wont be spending that kind of money again with things like that happening.

cougar? Your thoughts...
bucknut replied to layin on the smackdown's topic in Varmint & Predator Hunting
Too small to be a cougar and the video doesnt show enough be 100% certain. This time a year even the young of the year would be substantially larger than what was seen in the video. Than again, stranger things have happened. -
Indicate the lowest scoring deer you consider to be a Monsterbuck?
bucknut replied to fly's topic in Deer Hunting
170+ is reaching monster status. Anything 180+ is a monster.. 200+ well thats self-explanatory. The property i was hunting this year had a 180 class 6x6 taken off it. I definately consider that a monster buck... -
Did you shoot that Muley in Saskatchewan???
-
Iam loving my Maxxis 35 so I highly doubt ill be getting a new bow this year...
-
The caliber is more than capable of taking down an animal at that distance and farther as long as do your part. As for scopes, I am partial to Leupolds. a VX3 in 4.5X14 with a Boone and Crockett reticle would work nicely
-
Check out a Browning X-Bolt as well. I have one in .243 and wow is it ever nice to shoot!!!
-
Good luck chasing that monster Bret. Sounds like some cold weather is in store so that should get the big boy up and moving..:gunsmilie:

Just checking in again fellas. Bow and Muzzeloader season has been closed since Halloween, so I am just waiting for the general rifle season to open on the 15th. I have a week off and the forcast is calling for cold temperatures with some snow. I have been seeing a bit of rutting activity, even one with his nose to the ground walking into the wind so its fixing to bust loose pretty soon! Iam going to check my cameras in a few mintues here, so if i have anything worth showing ill post them up once i get home.. Good luck everyone! the Rut is near!!!!!!!!
-
The rut is just about to really kick into high gear up here in Saskatchewan. Almost hit a 140-150" buck on the way to work today chasing a doe across the highway
-
Iam holding out for a 160+ or a narly old mature buck with lots of character..

Hey guys.. Well i havent done much hunting in the last couple weeks. The weather was pretty warm and I just wasnt seeing much so i worked as much as possible.. Anywho, The upcoming weeks are looking promising, the are calling for snow next week and the temperature is below freezing at night so that should bring up the buck activity...I just setup a ameristep ground blind over some bait with a trail camera 20 away... it looks like a awesome spot so hopefully i can catch a couple bucks from earlier in the summer cruising through...On a side note... A fella from town here shot a freaking monster Mule Deer a couple weeks ago...254 Non typical with a 207 Typical frame... Can you imagine!!! Well good luck in th coming weeks fellas!!
-
Congrats again Carson, Iam super pumped for you!!! And good on yah Bret for taking Brandon and Carson out as much as you do. Those boys are definately getting taught the ropes from the right person...
-
Up here in Saskatchewan, the ducks and geese are everywhere!! It definately suggests the migration is well on its way!
-
The buck grosses 259 non-typical and nets 254 apparently, iam guessing non-officially with a 207 typical frame. It was shot by a guy that lives in the same town i live in. A once in a lifetime monster for sure!!!
-
X2.. When i was first starting out i used this video as a guide.. It definately helps with different sounds to make and which sounds means what etc etc... Ill have to warn you though, coyote hunting becomes a addiction after your first dog comes running in on a string!! Way to much fun and a great way to pass those winter months!!
-
Sorry i dont have any yet but she is blacked out and shoots really nice. I love that slider sight!! so much easier to concentrate one the shot, for me anyways.

Hoyt Maxxis 35 (28"/62lbs) HHA optimizer slider 1 pin sight Limbdriver rest Carter Just-b-cuz release Radial X-weave 200 pros topped with 100 grain G5 Strikers Its been good to me so far this year. Shot a Mule Deer a couple days ago and hope to add a Monster Whitetail to the list..
-
Thanks! Its my first Mulie so I am pretty excited! The darn thing pretty well committed suicide by jumping the fence and feeding 12 yards away:gun2:. I was after alot bigger bucks but the whole situtation was too cool to pass on this guy. He only went about 125 yards and piled up but i never did find a blood trail. I have some tenderloin and backstrap marinading as i type this, should be mighty fine eating!!
-
Mule Deer down boys! II still need to take some pics for scoring purposes but i was worried about the meat spoiling so i got down to business before thinking. I have a picture of the deer in the back of my truck but none with me in it. the deer is caped out so i dont know if they will allow this one in the contest if i take a before and after type picture.. None the less i have my first mule deer buck!
-
Just keep at it Carson, you did all you could do. It sure sounds like he made it through though. Just keep a eye open and who knows he might give you a second chance!

Here is a little update.. The last couple of days have been really windy but the rain finally stopped. So safe to say the deer havent been moving much. I did have a Muley doe and fawn at 26 yards yesterday but she got a free pass. Iam thinking tonight ill head to my whitetail spot, these mule deer are starting to wear me out lol.. Good luck everyone..
