Re: Using a climbing Tree Stand as.. All I can say is be careful!! Most climbing stands aren't designed to step into and out of. So make sure you lock it down with some straps and make sure you are wearing a good harness.

Re: Snake boots for AL hunt [ QUOTE ] Picked up a pair of the snake gaitors this weekend and tried them on. Could not find a pair of boots that felt comfy to me. Hope they work ok. Will let you know. [/ QUOTE ] Some snake gaiters are very very noisy. Hope yours aren't.

Re: Formula for arrow speed. [ QUOTE ] Here is a formula that works pretty close on Mathews bows. not 100% sure if it is the same for all brands. You need to find the IBO rated speed of your bow first. You can use the following to work backwards off listed IBO specs, this will put you pretty darn close to chrono: IBO Specs - 30" draw/70lb draw weight and a 350gr arrow. For every inch of draw length you go down you will lose 10 FPS For every 5# draw weight you go down you will lose 10 FPS For every 3 grains of weight your arrow is over IBO ( 5 grains per pound) you will lose 1 FPS For every 3 grains of weight you add to your string you will lose 1 FPS The 5 grains per inch is for a complete arrow. [/ QUOTE ] These are just rules of thumb. Good for a rough guess only even if you know all the weights accurately. The further your setup is from IBO the more approximate the values will be and larger the error from actual. To get a more accurate projected speed you really need two known speeds for two different known weight arrows. From that you can calculate the bows virtual mass. You also need the SE/PDF ratio. You might find it published for your bow. With that info you can predict a certain arrows speed pretty accurately as long as the arrow weight is accurate. You still won't get an absolutely perfect result because different spine arrows absorb potential energy from the bowstring differently. (IE. a real flexible arrow might be slower than predicted because it absorbs more forward momentum by flexing) try this site Bow Jackson Ballistic

Re: Snake boots for AL hunt The boots don't do you a bit of good if you sit on Mr. Noshoulders. Scratching leaves away with your hand to make a place to sit is another way boots don't help. Look down a lot and watch every step. Make sure there are no hidey holes in that fallen tree that looks like such a good backstop.

Re: Stupid eye twitch My mom had it. So I guess that makes me a son of a twitch! Guess I inherited it because occasionally I have the same problem. Tominator's advice is good. Calcium must be why string cheese seems to help (no joke!) Besides stress and fatigue. Eye twitches can be the result of a side effect from a new medication or an allergy you're developing. The side effect cause is the scariest if you let it go too long, because by the time you figure it out permanent damage may have occurred. Google all your meds + "side effects"

Re: Saddam\'s on a hunger strike He's banking on his belief we won't let him die. He probably thinks his hunger strike is sending a message to the world we are afraid to kill him. This is the same man that claimed he would never be taken alive. Guess that was an empty promise. So am I now to think he has the fortitude and resolve to go through with starving himself to death? When he could easily have ate a bullet before he was captured? I don't think so.

Re: 100 gr or 125 gr that is the question? [ QUOTE ] I would recommend a quick check of the charts to understand if the arrow is spined properly for either broadhead. Additionally I would also determine if there is a meaningful difference in FOC (front of center). If both check out, then I would shoot them both to determine which fly better. Juts my two cents worth John < >< [/ QUOTE ] Yep, I agree Spine first. FOC second. Both are crucial for good broadhead flight. Keep in mind FOC's can change a little bit between the same weight heads if they are different lengths. They won't change a lot but they will change a little. Either 100gr or 125gr is perfectly adequate for deer. Go with what flys the most accurately.

Re: Bow sight magnification lens In some states magnified bowsites are specifically illegal to hunt with. Check your regs That being said. A magnified sight will show you in a hurry just how solid your form is. Most archers are really surprised by how much movement they are making until they look through a magnified sight and see the target dancing all over the place. I've heard some folks claim it must be the sight making them do that. Nope it's just them. They can be a good tool to help instill good habits. But as I said, illegal to hunt with in lots of places.

Re: Question about Arrows Weight? IBO weight arrows of 5gr/lb draw. Are often noisy and a real chore to tune (if you can, especially with broadheads). Sometimes a little more weight on the arrow makes very little difference in speed but makes for a quieter easier to shoot setup.

Re: cold batteries Yep, cold kills alkaline batteries. It's really hard on film. If it gets cold enough your film will freeze right in the camera and not expose. Had both happen. Around 20deg or below best to keep anything with batteries or film inside your jacket until you need it.

Re: Open Letter From Jimmy Houston Bellar's place is shut down. Houston's testimony helped that happen. He was NOT the one on trial, Bellar was. He cooperated fully with officials investigating the case. This is the only part of the situation that is a matter of public record. In spite of what some may choose to believe based on "Other" presented evidence. Do we truly know the motivations of that source? It's accuracy? Do we? Yet, the Witch Hunt for Houston's blood continues as an emotionally charged and driven bash fest bent on destroying the man's career. Do we have the right to pass such judgement, to instill such hate and promote it's growth? Do we? Do we really? These Houston threads mirror the irrational and emotion only driven threads on PETA's forum. In fact some responses match what they would say WORD FOR WORD. It's scary. Some folks are finding forgiveness in their hearts. Some are giving Jimmy the benefit of the doubt. This is good too see. I don't think it's worth destroying a man's long good standing career as an icon for this industry based on suspicions supplied by a source I'm not familiar with.

Re: sharping bow skills ? In a safe place. Nock an arrow, clamp on your release. With the bow pointed at your target, draw back as slowly as possible. Maintain the bow on target the entire draw. At full draw count to 10 and Do not shoot. Let the bow back down as slowly as possible. Repeat 10times (no more than 2sec rest between draws) If you did it right you'll feel just like you shot 100arrows. As it gets easier try and slow down the motion even more and add a couple seconds to the hold time. Probably gonna be real sore after the first time you try this, so at first, skip every other day to recover.

Re: How well does super glue work? I agree with the gel suggestion but would like to add. Any kind of moisture acts as an accelerant that speeds up the bonding process of the glue. That's why it bonds fingers so quickly. The FASTER the glue cures the WEAKER the bond. It's a really good idea to swab both contact areas with Acetone before applying the glue to get maximum strength.
