  1. I'm going to use Rocket Stricknines. 125gr head which balances better with my setup and a 2" cutting diameter. The bigger the cutting diameter the better the chances are you clip spine and the gobbler is DRT (Dead Right There)
  2. About to leave for the airport. Needless to say, I didn't go.

    MAD Calls?

Seriously, that comment got a laugh out of me!!! I've heard SO MANY complaints about that thing, it just tickled me. Maybe it truly has some value. I don't know. And I probably never will. I owl hoot with my voice and that always works for me before full sun up. After full sun up, three blasts on the crow call are most effective. Honestly, though I find your better off not trying to get a shock gobble. Birds that courtesy gobble for no apparent reason are usually the ones you want to chase anyhow.
  4. Should have known to check Ebay! DOH! I've only ever seen one myself, so I never dreamed they'd be on there. Live and learn.
  5. My two Brownings really like the Winchester Supreme High Velocity loads. I like #4s though they don't pattern like the smaller shot or multi-sized pellet loads. They do however pattern well enough to stone turkeys pretty much as far as you want to shoot one. I like Gobblerguns.com chokes. I use a 655 with #4 Winchester 3 1/2 2oz loads. Some folks like Indian Creek chokes in Brownings. I have no experience with the IC chokes but I've seen some good patterns from them. Both companies will suggest Load/Choke combos. Call their tech people and save yourself a lot of trial and error and money.

    Judo points!

I haven't found a point yet that will keep an arrow from being toasted after a rock impact. And  if you like Judos you ain't squeamish! Them things can make a mess!
  7. Found this picture on the web. Apparently this is a rare call. A buddy of mine has one. I called on it before. Very good clucks really superb.
  8. You need to chalk them like a box call. The wood piece inside is the striker. Take out the cork and take it out. Hold it longwise between two fingers and give a short stroke accross the lip of the box. The Plantation calls make awesome clucks. Yelps are tougher, and don't sound as good to me as they do on other calls. But for clucks that plantation call is very very good.

    MAD Calls?

Truthfully, I've never used them either. And honestly don't know anyone who is a big fan. I've never really thought about it until this post. Don't know why. Just been happy with what I use now. That's my only excuse.
  10. I don't know what 10 you had but chances are the Nova is lighter in weight. That translates to more abuse. An aftermarket recoil pad will help (Hi-Viz, Limbsaver...). A mercury tube that goes in the magazine makes a big difference too. If you plan on waterfowling with 3 1/2" loads the merc tube is a "MUST HAVE!" It will definitely help with turkey loads too. Your cheekbone will thank you.

    Lets see um

Yes it was. That Osceola in their bloodline (these turkeys are hybrids) sprouts pretty good hooks. Body weight wise though these birds are dinks. That bird had a 9 1/2" beard and didn't break 19lbs. That joker was probably 4yrs old a pure eastern would have been over 21lbs by then easy. Still not gonna complain about the jewelery.
  12. If you can find the BPS in 3 1/2" 12ga get that one. Even better is a Browning Gold, Silver or Winchester SX3. The 10ga is a great gun, and I do dearly love the BPS, don't get me wrong but if you are specifically buying a gun for Turkeys, a 10ga is not the best option. Your shell choices are limited and so are your choke choices with the 10ga. I shot a 10 for years until I got frustrated with the choke and ammo availability. Bottom line guys with 3 1/2" 12ga guns could whop my tail at the pattern board every day of the week and there was nothing I could do to change that. Also recoil wise the 10ga BPS will rip your head off. The 1187 is a much softer shooting gun. But I kid you not, the Browning and Winchester autos will routinely out pattern the 1187. IMHO, Remingtons best patterning turkey gun is the 870. With the right tweaking they can absolutely compete with the Brownings and Winchesters. With the 870 you will pay the price in recoil. Maybe some one has one but personally I've never seen an awesome patterning 1187. I don't know why. In 3 1/2" 12ga the BPS is an abuser too, so I suggest a limbsaver or hi viz pad and a mercury recoil reducer.

    Lets see um

Well I don't have a nifty display of mine like that. But here's a picture of my biggest.
  14. The Supreme Elites ARE High Density Shot. 10% heavier than lead. I am positive it's on Winchesters site. I'd absolutely call CNC before pushing one through.
  15. You are not wrong http://www.comp-n-choke.com/FAQ.html
  16. I make my own slates, they really really work. But I still want a Yella Hammer!
  17. Call the technical service guys at Comp-n-choke. Tell them what gun you have and what shell you plan to shoot. They will suggest the right size to you. Or call the tech guys here http://gobblerguns.com/ Not trying to snipe Comp-n-choke they got a loyal following around here but the gobbler guns dudes know there stuff too so keep an open mind
  18. LifeNRA has it right. If you are shooting Hevi's a tighter choke might make things worse. Hevi's can be finicky some like squeezing some don't like it at ALL! You need to know how many pellets you can put in a 10in circle at 40 or 45 yds with different loads and chokes to really decide what's the best.
  19. 45 yds 10in circle 67pellets (Remember this is a #4s pattern folks lot less pellets but still a dead turkey)
  20. I really am very happy with my Final Strut choke from Gobbler Guns. It will take the #5 Winchester High Density stuff. But I really like lead #4s for noggin bustin. If you want a choke that honestly will take any load out there and won't cost as much as a Rhino or Patternmaster check out these chokes. I've seen some very impressive patterns pushed through these. http://www.indiancreekss.com/home.htm These are Wad stripping chokes like the Patternmaster and Comp n Chokes. They also cost up to 25% less If you want to shoot Hevi's with a reasonably priced choke. The Indian Creeks are the way to go IMHO. Be warned though. Do not shoot Flight control wads through a wad stripping choke.
  21. Read my response to your question on my Pattern Post. Call these guys http://gobblerguns.com/ $75 they will help you get the right choke and load combo for your weapon. Save yourself a lot of aggravation
  22. These guys http://gobblerguns.com/ Call their tech support. Tell them what gun and load you shoot. They'll suggest a choke size or even a better load to boot. $75 for the choke. If it doesn't work for you send it back and they'll send you different sizes until it's just right. That's their deal. I think it's a darn good one. Obviously I'm not sending mine back. Supposedly the Winchester High density #5s do well through this choke too. That's what they told me any way. I have no reason to doubt them.
  23. Actually I couldn't see the circle from 30yds. The target was in the shade. So I literally had to guess where it was on the sheet. Next time I do this I'm taking some hot orange target dots. Anyhow, yes the sights are on. Inside 30yds this setup is gonna make a vapornoggin!
  24. 30yds 9inch circle Winchester Supreme 2oz 3 1/2" #4s 1300fps Browning Gold w/655 Final Strut choke Very happy with this. I'm calling it officially ready!
  25. One comment on the Rain-X stuff. The windshield must be absolutely clean and solvent free before you apply it. First step is to clean the heck out of the windshield with windex before applying. If it's not perfectly clean and solvent free it WON'T WORK! Follow the application instructions on the stuff exactly. If it's too hot outside that also messes up the application. I don't remember what the max temp is. It's on the bottle. If it's hotter than that FORGET IT. Don't try and use RAIN-X until it cools down.
