  1. Thanks Kat, I hope your father is improving. The insidious thing about a head injury is the delayed effects that can occur hours or days after the initial injury. Swelling can pinch off blood vessels that don't start to bleed until the swelling recedes. When that happens things get much worse in a hurry.
  2. If you're having trouble with your eyes after taking a hit, you need to go see a doctor. If bleeding has started inside your head things could get a lot worse before they get better. I cracked my skull from left side of my nose through the temporal bone to the back of my right ear. It put me in a coma for weeks. After I came out of the coma a bleed started again and almost killed me. Don't take a chance if you may have bleeding in your brain.
  3. In 308Win I'd probably go with the Model 7 Remington versus their 700. A Tikka T3 would also be a very good choice.
  4. In my experience they will get out in the soybeans and eat the plants before the beans are even on them. They tend to not browse on the corn plants as much. On soybeans find the part of the field the plants are significantly shorter than the rest of the ones in the field. That's where the deer are coming out and munching the most.

    Pikes Peak

Garden of the Gods in Manitou Springs near Colorado Springs is really amazing as well. If you get a chance, check it out.
  6. I won my African safari in 2010 in a hunt drawing on Facebook. So you guys who refuse to join are just increasing my odds for another trip with a different drawing
  7. Shooting the bow a lot and increasing poundage gradually definitely works. Practicing drawing and then letting the bow down as slowly as possible several times really works all the muscles you need to improve better. If you can do that 10 times every day for a couple weeks it will make a big difference.
  8. I like the 300 Weatherby! Talley makes the mounts you need for that rifle. The Talley lightweights are great and easy to install.
  9. It depends on what gun you are bedding. Some guns only require the action bedded and barrel free floated. Some guns need pillars installed in stock. Some need a slight pressure on the barrel at the end of the fore-end. And some need some kind of dampening (silicone). There are youtube videos on the subject.
  10. I finally got a chance to test all the modifications I did to my 223REM NEF Handy Rifle. Out of the box accuracy on this rifle was a disappointing 1.75MOA. I did a ton of tinkering with it (re-bed, re-crown, tighten action, trigger job) and even gave it a custom paint job. It looked nice. Here is how it groups now at 100yds! The little rifle actually shot better than my 300WBY with reloads, although I strongly suspect the heavy crosshairs and lower power of the scope on the Weatherby is holding it back. The space in between holes on this target is essentially the same as the thickness of the crosshairs as seen on the target.
  11. Yep. And how fair is it to have a law change reduce a portion of your inventories value to zero!
  12. This law change would have doomed the American Bison to extinction. Private ranches and utilization of a percentage of these animals contributed greatly to the re-emergence of the bison. The numbers on these animals show, what the Texas ranches were doing was working. History has shown us this strategy has absolutely worked in the past.
  13. I have a good friend whose child has been diagnosed with Autism. There are several different degrees of Autism. It can vary from mild to extreme. There is no single set of rules that applies to all Autistic children. I did over 3 months of speech therapy to learn how to speak again after my accident in 2003. Learning how to walk again was less frustrating. Being on the patient end of speech therapy I can tell you it's almost impossible not to get upset. The harder you try and still fail the more upset you get. Comments like "try harder" or "stop being lazy" aren't what you want to hear when you're trying your best. None of my therapists or family members said that to me but I did hear family members of other patients say it to them. Understanding the frustration will go a long way.
  14. Thought some of you might enjoy seeing some hunting footage in Africa. Lots of stuff on this video. A few are hunts you simply don't see on tv. Check it out. As hard as this had to be to put together, I say the guys at Infinito did good. [video=youtube;KpnqBEG3H-w]
  15. If you are looking at Bowtech's you should shoot a 340 Destroyer if you get a chance. Great bow.
  16. In the front yard this morning. Yep feral chickens running around the neighborhood!
  17. This is so true. My 82lb newer bow smokes my old 92lber from 1990. I agree wholeheartedly with being able to draw straight back. If you can't do that your draw weight is too high for you.
  18. One hunting bow is set at 67.5 lbs and one is set at 82lbs.

    Got Lucky

That's an absolutely awesome scope! Congrats!
  21. Two good places to eat are Nolan's and The Tin Top.
  22. I'm guessing that would make enough for about 1 lb of Jerky? I haven't made any jerky myself but I've marinated lots of meat. One thing that really really helps is if you have a vacuum packer with the jar assembly. Put the meat and marinade in the jar and pull a vacuum to it. This really helps the meat absorb the marinade. Just two hours in the fridge in Vacuum pack is essentially equal to marinading overnight in a ziploc bag. If you leave the vacuum packed one over night in the fridge the results will be amazing. Since RangerClay didn't specify what kind of Oil I would suggest Peanut Oil. Peanut Oil tenderizes the meat naturally.

    Gabby Giffords

Hard to comment. I can identify with a lot of what she is going through. Very tough lady.
  24. The ebook version was released on Kindle last year. This year the book was finally published in 9"x6" paperback form. It's available from Amazon at this link. Boy with a White Flag Here's a short description. Trust me folks it's a good read.
