Re: Blazer vs. regular vanes I've found the lighter the arrow shaft the higher the FOC needs to be for good broad head flight. For light carbons 12% is not unreasonable.

Re: Truck troubles... Help? Ideas? If anything else (ie. radio) comes on that's not supposed to when the key is out then the ignition switch itself is the most likely culprit.

Re: Fall away rests Totally honest in my experience. I've split arrows with bows equipped with a whisker biscuit. IMO they are absolutely accurate enough a rest to hunt with. My problem with them is they do have a break in period and they do have a worn out period. The muzzy zero effect is the most consistent practically bulletproof rest (all rests not just fallaways) I've ever used. I've yet to wear one out or have an issue with it. I speaking specifically of the cable guard model. Not the Mathews conversion model (which I don't particularly like.)

Re: ordered a feeder [ QUOTE ] I'd go with some kind of protein pellet. [/ QUOTE ] I agree with Randy. Pellets mixed with corn are the way to go for off season supplemental feeding. There's lots of good deer pellets out there. The deer benefit from pellets way more than they do corn.

Re: Compatible DVD Decoder That's odd. Usually Windows Media player goes out and downloads codecs automatically when trying to play a file it doesn't recognize. Try updating Windows Media player to the latest version first.

Re: When Shooting Your Bow... [ QUOTE ] One eye open. Left eye dominant and shoot right handed. [/ QUOTE ] Important point. If you're cross dominant both eyes open will really mess you up. As a result of an injury 4years ago I have "shifting" eye dominance. That means sometimes the left eye is dominant and sometimes the right eye is. If I'm shooting with both eyes open. I can always tell when the shift occurs because my arrows will start to group at a different POI. This is a technique I discovered that really helps me. I've found I can force right eye dominance if I keep the left eye closed and open it only right before I shoot. IMO, most folks who have trouble shooting both eyes open are usually either cross dominant or have a mild shifting problem like mine. The dominance forcing technique works for me, maybe it will help others.

Re: How do you know... Flexing them is a good idea for carbons. Sometimes you hear cracks you don't see. Cracks or splinters they are done. Junk em, you can't fix them. A very small crack can instantly turn into a big problem. They won't necessarily break the next shot but they will eventually fail, so don't risk it. Some wear on the finish isn't usually something to be concerned about unless you feel fibers where the wear is. If that happens they are gonna crack and soon.

Re: Any new Hunting Gadgets [ QUOTE ] Kicking around the idea of one of these for my Trykon.... Hoyt Side Mounts String Suppressors by CHL [/ QUOTE ] Interesting About a year ago I modified my STS to a side mount. Piece of cake, cross drill the mounting block, put a star washer between it and the riser, mount it with a stainless allen head. It works great.

Re: Ultimate Job Even when they get it right they don't get credit for an accurate prediction. Ultimate job? Thankless is more like it You better really like weather in that line of work. You're gonna get sent to the most likely hurricane strike areas. Blamed for not predicting a tornado that levels someones house. Or blamed for not sensing the coming of the next flood.

Re: 10 Controversial Wildlife Subjects [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Nowadays, I make sure as few people see the animal as possible. When was the last time you got a pat on the back from a stranger who was a hunter at the checkstation or processor? Our own ignorance, insecurity and incompetence is what fuels these contriversies and prevents us from doing what we really need to do. IE. improve the habitat and really study the population. As a Wildlife professional your NUMBER ONE job is to TEACH IMO, ignorance of wildlife is the biggest controversial subject, because it's what people THINK they know that causes all the problems. [/ QUOTE ]Not to get off the subject but, these statements kinda contradict themselves don't they? [/ QUOTE ] I don't think so. Trying to teach somebody something while standing over a big deer tends to just get you branded as a liar or a braggert by your "accusers". From the first time these folks open their mouths it's apparent their opinion is not open for debate. To teach somebody something they have to be willing to believe you have something to teach them. I answer these folks honestly. That's all I can do at that point. If someone wants to really learn, I do what I can to help.

Re: 10 Controversial Wildlife Subjects The root of the survival of all controversial wildlife subjects boils down to this. If someone is not harvesting or seeing animals then one of the controversial subjects posted above is always somehow to blame! Anti's blame hunters for killing them all. Unsuccessful hunters blame other successful hunters for using unethical or illegal tactics to get their game. I hate to say it but every time I kill a big deer. At least one hunter who sees me with it asks, "Where did you poach that? Or, "Where is the game farm you bought that from. Did you let them take the bottle out of it's mouth before you shot it, in it's cage?" Nowadays I make sure as few people see the animal as possible. When was the last time you got a pat on the back from a stranger who was a hunter at the checkstation or processor? When I got back from Africa and got my pictures developed. The developer looked at my pictures and said, "Wow! Is it legal to kill those things in Africa?" Our own ignorance, insecurity and incompetence is what fuels these contriversies and prevents us from doing what we really need to do. IE. improve the habitat and really study the population. As a Wildlife professional your NUMBER ONE job is to TEACH. IMO, ignorance of wildlife is the biggest controversial subject, because it's what people THINK they know that causes all the problems.

Re: OMG! I think we had bear!!! Whatever you do. Don't bait one near the house! It's like an invitation to come in. Bears are cool but scare them off if you see them. Near the house is not acceptable.

Re: Soundgarden/Audioslave fans I've been watching the stripped version that bfletch7441 posted the link to of Chris Cornell playing "Black Hole Sun". This an absolutely outstanding acoustic solo effort. Any one who plays acoustic guitar seriously needs to check it out. I never would have suspected that song would lend itself to being played so beautifully on an acoustic. It's quite an impressive tune on it's own without all the bells and whistles of a "metal band song". It stands alone quite impressively in the one guy one guitar format. I also noticed in watching him play he uses a modified tuning on his guitar. It's a simple dropped "D" tuning which is really cool.

Re: G5 Monotec BH 1. If they fly well out of your setup, they will flat work for you. I've killed animals from 50lbs to over 700lbs with them. 2. Learn how to resharpen them. I've killed multiple animals with the same head. 3. Tune your bow to your arrows. Not the other way around.

Re: 2007 Iron Mace. High Country Bows The super fast speed 390fps is shooting their arrows. A 5.5 shaft, total arrow weight is 250grns. That's 100grns below IBO min of 350 for a 70lb bow. I guess they'll warrant it. Lots of companies won't warrant their bows if you shoot lighter than 5grns/lb. Might not be shocky but I bet it's loud

Re: Hey Computer Guys [ QUOTE ] www.crucial.com Can get memory here. They can check your computer & tell you what memory you need. [/ QUOTE ] Best idea since it's Dell. Dell's are notoriously finicky with memory. Even stuff that's the right kind and speed based on specifications sometimes won't work in a Dell. If you go the retail store route. Keep the receipt until you're positive it works

Re: Blazer vanes Everyone talks about the speed increase and more stable flight the blazers provide. A few folks also add these fletchings are very quiet. I agree with all those observations. Probably the most underated benefit of the blazer fletchings is the significant increase in FOC you get on your arrows. Many experienced archers know that a higher FOC is needed to stabilize fixed broadheads than fieldpoints. Most often overlooked however is the role FOC plays in keeping the penetration path of the arrow straight. This is why you hear about folks complaining that mechanicals are only good for broadside shots because they "turn" in animals shot at an angle. FOC is important for mechanicals not so much on the stable flight end as it is on terminal performance. In my experience just enough FOC to get good broadhead flight on ANY style broadhead is never enough for predictable penetration. Bottomline especially if you are shooting carbon arrows if your FOC is less than 10% you probably need a heavier broadhead.
