  1. That sure looks like fun. How many ducks did you band?

    Breeding Labs

I think most folks would shy away from breeding 1/2 brothers and sisters. I'm by no means an expert in the field but I would consider this line breeding. I also know that there are breeders who do line breeding. I think someone doing this would want to make sure, at a minimum, that both dogs pass hip & eye tests. You may have a litter of great pups or a litter of pups whose dominate traits are a combination of the parents weaknesses. With the number of great dogs out there that someone could use I wouldn't do it.
  3. Here's what I'm doing My daughters birthday is at the end of March and she will be turning 6. WhisperCreek Archery has a nice compound bow that is relatively inexpensive ($169). The picture below is what you get. On the bow I bought I put a D loop on the string and a peep in the string. The draw weight and length are adjustable. Before I bought it she shot it at the bow store and was drilling the target at 14 yards. This bow may not be enough for an 8 year old but there are others setups out there.
  4. I have just returned from 2 great days of deer hunting in SW Montana. This year I headed south with 4 tags in my pocket. As you have guessed from the title I tagged out. I won't bore you with the details but there are a couple of things about this hunt that made me really happy. The first is that my 4 deer were shot right around 100 yards on 4 differnet stalks. I like to sneak in as close as possible. Seems to make it more of a hunt for me especially when you are out in the open. The second thing was I only shot 4 times. Not being detected gives a guy lots of time to setup and wait for the perfect shot. The last one is kinda hard to explain but I'll give it a try. I had shot the 3 does the first day. The second day I hunted for a buck and by the end of the day I had passed on 5 or 6. I went out to a draw that can be really good or really bad. The wind was blowing but I was working my way into it. This draw has another that runs into it near the bottom. When I was almost to the point where the 2 meet the wind hit me and on it was the unmistakable smell of mulies. My nose rarely lets me down so I prepared my self and crept to the high point between the 2 draws. Sure enough there 5 or 6 deer in it. 2 of which where bucks. I passed on a 3 point and took this forky, who was just a little bigger, both in body and antler size. All in all a great time.
  5. In about a week my newest duck mauler will be arriving. Here is a picture of him giving a duck the smack down. I have to admit, it does look like he has been eating well.
  6. Hey guys don't forget to go to the DU website and fill out a report when you see those Northerns heading down. Here is a link. http://www.ducks.org/hunting/migrationMap/default.aspx?from=06migmapredirect
  7. Nice looking antelope. Congrats.
  8. Good luck, have a great trip. Looking forward to the pictures and stories.
  9. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, how about a store?
  10. I've only watched it a couple of times, looks ok though. Still it hasn't made it to my favorites list.
  11. I would trade a day of bow hunting for this in an instant.

    ct cabela's

Lucky for me we only have a sportsmans warehouse. If there were a cabela's in my town I would be financially ruined.
  13. Good for you Charlie. I hope you lead that boy to a nice fat cow.
  14. Looks like a great time, I'm jealous.
  15. Thanks everyone. He is almost a month old.
  16. Here is the latest pictures of No Name Dog... He looks to be a real duck mauler.
  17. You got the short end of the stick, that's for sure. I would be surprised if you weren't entitled to the OT unless you signed it away in your contract with the temp agency. Find out what happened and don't settle for less. I had a temp job once where they didn't pay the benefits. Enough of us got together that we all go nice big checks for the benefits we didn't receive.
  18. Dish has my local channels and DirectTV didn't so I went with Dish. I've had both and between the pro's and con's for both it ends up being a wash.

    My hunting Chick

My kids just get cooler, my daughter has decided she'll die if she doesn't go hunting. Now the nighty isn't standard hunting equipment but it's what we had. Tonight we picked up the boots, socks, hat and the camelback. Not only is she cute but she's a devil dog at finding deer. Now I haven't been this excited for hunting season to start for some time but now it can't get here soon enough.
  21. Nothing beats sharing a crisp morning bugle with your kids. Good job. On the other hand season has been slow at my end of the valley. No bugling but do have plenty of hunters running amuck...LOL
  22. That's a shooter for sure. I would guess 170 - 180. It's hard to guess without a reference of size.
