  1. WARNING: Shyster Ralph Jamison (edgemaker sharpeners) Mods: apologies if this is in the wrong forum. Last sept i ordered an edgemaker sharpening system to replace the one i lost during hunting season. it was ordered from RALPH JAMISON who also goes by the name 'rangler' http://edgemakerpro.com/contact-us.html He claims to have shipped the package but i never rec'd it. He offered me a refund or a free replacement package anywhere in the US, or pay the shipping again and he would send another one to Alberta. I gave him a friend's Texas address and it has never shipped. Twice he told me he needed the address again to see what happened. in february i told him I want a refund and he did not reply. This week (7 months after my order was placed) he tells me the factory has a new owner and his inventory is low. It will ship when he gets it. This is 2 weeks after i told him i wanted a refund. I was a fan of edgemakers system but if you're going to get one, stear clear of this clown.
  2. first, 92xj i don't know how you read anger in text. trust me, if i was angry, you would be able to tell. second, there is a reason those deer are in the shop and not in the house. i will take some more pictures and add them to my album. In my initial post i left contact info for serious inquiries (which i have received). not sure where your posts fit in but not in the 'serious inquiries' dept. Fact is, i know what is going on in other areas of Alberta and mine is as good or better size wise, and i don't book 15 hunters. So if you think my prices are too high, don't phone and move on to the next thread. (i've already had interest through pms so i guess i'm not too far out of whack).
  3. Then don't call me. i've priced my hunts based on what others are doing here. the main complaint i've hear from hunters, is that there are too many other hunters. There are 160-170 class bucks killed in my area every year. if that isn't big enough for you, all i can say is good luck.
  4. Howdy, I am taking bookings on 2 Alberta Whitetail Archery hunts. This area is well known for good genetics and BIG whitetails. You will be hunting on private land without competition, on areas that have been trail cam monitored. Hunts are available for September and October. Also available is trophy Northern Pike fishing and fly fishing on the world famous North Raven River. Price is $3500 for a 10 day hunt or $2000 for a 7 day hunt plus $1000 trophy fee on any animal hit. This will include everything except alcohol, flights, and taxidermy. (I have a taxidermist that will deliver your trophy to your home). All you have to do is hunt…and maybe fish. A deposit of 50% is required by May 31st, 2010 and the first deposit received gets first booking. I will take $500 off the total, if you book with a friend before March 31st. I only take 2 hunters per year so if you want to bowhunt big whitetails, in a quiet private setting, this hunt is for you. Check my profile for photos. Please direct serious enquiries to: Kelly Hooey 403-844-2689 [email protected]
  5. hmmm. can't say i've ever thought of quitting but what i am hearing is frustration, not lack of desire (the only real reason to quit). problem with quitting out of frustration is the intact desire leads to regret. may i suggest a couple things if you decide you haven't 'quit'? 1) stop trying so hard. i can out walk/work most of my friends but i've learned that doesn't always make me more successful 2)Stop measuring your success in dead animals-seeing a big buck should be worth something, even if he is out of range (at least you didn't throw a hail mary). do it when/where you can and lower you expectations. i guarantee you will be pleasantly suprized.
  6. Mornin'. Alberta's WMU 324 is well known for big whitetails and we have taken several. I finally decided that we need to start sharing this good fortune. The season goes from the beginning of September, til the end of November. Rifle opens at the start of November but archery can still be used during rifle season. Cost is $4000usd per 10 days plus $1500 trophy fee ($4500 plus trophy fee for rifle). This includes transportation from Edmonton or Calgary, food, accomodation, and guiding on some of the best whitetail properties of the area. If you are interested in a hunt in beautiful Alberta landscapes, with a pile of big bucks or would like some more information, give me a call at 403-844-2689 or cell 403-844-0977. hope to hear from you! sincerely, kelly hooey

  8. congratulations and so it begins. a lifelong passion. welcome jump!
  9. I am only 37, yet i think can see where CB is coming from. My father has a remarkable trophy room. he has big rams, bucks, a huge cat, wolf, etc. and seems mainly content to talk about it. I seem to be headed in the same direction and can't say i can do anything about it. I really envy friends that get revved about taking anything but i have no interest in shooting anything unless its big (this is not good) or i just need some sausage. Unfortunately, some 'hunters' are not hunters at all, they are 'shooters' and do not embrace the exhiliration that comes from the work associated with a real DIy hunt. For true hunters, think there are two forces at work, one being the normal desensitization that comes after a repeated stimulation is applied, and two, the individuals measurement of success. No challenge, no reward. If there were piles of big whatever in your backyard, the challenge of taking a big whatever ceases. the sense of accomplishment is what drives most real hunters. Once these accomplishments are achieved, it makes sense that doing it repetitively doesn't offer the same satisfaction. therefore, you can raise your goals or you can change the way you obtain them (ie switch to bowhunting over rifle). Also, sharing your experience know-how, etc. with others, offers and entirely different satisfaction. it also gives you a sense of worth and chance to brag a bit! As for the body being worn out, that is another topic entirely. I rodeoed long enough to know what an old man feels like. i've told my wife i will defy the effects of age as long as i can and then she can wipe my bum for me. don't dispair if you are content to 'poke the fire' at hunting camp. This means that you truly know and understand what being a hunter is about. Note that you are still in hunting camp, not at home or golfing. Those of us that enjoy just being outdoors, being with friends, and sharing with others are lucky enough to have experienced what true hunting is.
  10. sorry i forgot to add that i had one on my old switchback and could not get it to work as well. if you have a roller cable guard bow, i would look at something else. the limited cable travel makes it a challenge.
  11. i like mine too, good arrow containment, quietness, and no strings or springs. but.. there are no micro adjustments on it and this rest needs to be tuned. you also have to make sure everything is tightened up when it is tuned. i have had it move on a hunt. if they built this rest out of aluminum and put microadjustments on it, it could very well be the best rest ever built.
  12. http://www.huntingpa.com/Recipes/rc286.HTM its good.
