  1. ive got to have another knee replacement this year and they may work on my right hip too as i have one foot straight forward and one foot turning to the right. i think a future year would be better, but thats just me. great research by HH as always. and i do think 81 is the better choice for a group meetup since its easier to get to by hwy from albaturkey or denver or durango for those that would fly in.
  2. I really like the looks of u53 on topo and satfoto and all them lakes. Its in the West Elk Mtns west of Irwin. Irwin is in 521 but its OTC too and has a campground. But I'll have to wait til the 9+feet of snow is gone to go up there and explore. The place is 35mi straight west of Crested Butte on the map. u81 I know a lot better and have been most places in it. We wouldnt have to camp low east of Platoro where we did before, we could go up higher over La Manga Pass to Trujillo Meadows Campground and camp. Thats a huge camping place and easy to get to w big rigs or small. Incidentally BLM campgrounds that are OPEN in 2nd and 3rd rifle do not charge a fee but I think the 10 or 14 day limit still applies. If yall wanted to branch out from there you can go to Platoro or Fox Creek or Osier or creep along the edges of the Tierra Amarilla Grant fence. Just so may options. u81 is like having the whole state to camp and hunt in, its so big it boggles the imagination, and spreads the hunters way out. And the food is cheap and is really at the Osier train station. Or you can drop down into Chama NM and eat. Or we could go to 55 and camp up at Spring Creek, or 54 over toward The Castles. We luv our Gunnison. I just down know

  4. 54 is otc bull this yr for 2nd and 3rd rifle, book came in mail today. of course w otc tags you could camp in 54 or 55 and hunt 54 or 55. steve's guys got that bull in 55 out of cement creek when we were in taylor park that yr. them two units are as central as you can get. and we can get ammos at gene taylors . As info solid fluorescent pink is legal now. my wife wants to go back to fox creek in 81 to get that bull she couldnt get a shot off at in 2015, but im sure she ll go wherever we pick.
  5. after seeing a COlo DOW facebook post today my wife and I discussed taking a trip to Crawford State Park lake for looksee when winter is over. Son and family will be living here after next week and his wife has never gone camping anywhere. So we'll see how that works out once spring has sprung and the grass is ris. I think its unit 53, 63, or 521. OTC. Some time back Hungry Horse mentioned a couple places near some lakes in that same area that might be a good meetup place as lots of room to camp.
  6. I'm not planning on going this year. If I do it'll just a day or two nearby if I don't turn my tag in.
  7. Somewhere on a map I seen two high lakes that had roads to them. That seems worth investigating but I don't know if its 53 or 521. I'll get out there some time after I retire. A lot of good possibilities in those two harder to get to units.
  8. My third rifle season otc bull elk tag came in mail Saturday. Now, what to do with it...
  9. we'll try to prevent the Billary thing at the ballot box in Nov. Also I been looking for an excuse to eBay two Mathews bows. Maybe a good idea you had JJL.
  10. congrats on lining up a top of the bucket list hunt. good luck with getting a big grizzer
  11. very cool, congrats and good luck. don't forget the pics.
  12. Full moons are Oct 5 and Nov 4 so we can avoid that in 2017
  13. Heres link to 2016-2017 CPW hunt planner so we can at least have the correct dates to pre plan. http://cpw.state.co.us/Documents/Hunting/HunterEd/HuntPlanner.pdf Dates usually don't change as they set them on a 5 yr plan. 2017 books will be out mid Feb 2017, earlier on the CPW www.
  14. A friend thinks we should go to unit 53, but he wont post here, so I am. Also I'd like to add unit 80 as I think both are otc bull. Its worth researching and getting comments on certainly. Tho I like 2nd season I think 3rd rifle is also worth considering.
