  1. i was thinking this would be great for turkey, varmits etc. let me know what ya think
  2. Yes a 30-30 has an effective range out beyond 100yds, for those who dont think a 100yd is a long shot, or a hard shot. instead. you have to aim like you would at 100yds but takes more skill and patience. its not hard. whats hard are shots that go beyond 750yds, when your are taking shots at 100+yds at the closest to about 800yds, on an average. get a 30-30 and set targets and differing ranges from 50,100,125,150,175,200,250,300yds. and then come back to the discussion table and present your findings. but for those who are recoil sensitive, or who are not taking long distance shots the 30-30 is the old stand by, amo everywhere, Affordable and easy to load. and it will teach those who dont know how to shoot with iron sights.with out any adverse effects.
  3. i Just found and purchased this beauty. let me know what yall think. i liked it because western field is no longer Around and it is a collectors item now that still functions perfectly. i only paid 97.37 for it.
  4. i have seen 30-30's deflect on a twig. tho i am not diminshing the old workhorse. it is one of my favorite choices. and yes i can shoot and kill a big buck with a 30-30 at 300yds, and yes thats pushing it with that old gun. tho you have to lob it out there, and then wait a week for it to arive on point,:clown:, it is one of the better choices out there for a recoil senceitive shooter. and besides that they are just plain fun to shoot. and get a good lever gun, and a set of dies, and a good slug, pick a load out and you can do alot for that old cal. i used the hornady 150 interlokts over 28.gr of imr 30-31. i created that load for a very old 30-30 my grandpa has. and for another 3030 we had. and they work perfectly. for a 16yr old girl who is going to be shooting under 100yds i would put the 30-30 in her hands and make her learn how to shoot a gun like that with iron sights. the trajectory is completely different from the .243 win. in stead of flat and fast, its arches. and that in it self can throw you off if your used the a high power flat shooting rifle such as a 243. but if you plan on shooting beyond 50yds then i would say stay with what you have, or maybe step up to a .270 short mag. or let her try the bigger guns to see if she likes it.
  5. GREAT FIREARM!!!!!!!! i own one exactly like it. i use the 150gr corelokts, 150gr nosler balistic tips, winchester powerpoints so on. all in the 150grains class, and it shoots well and the berral does well with those. the nosler is my handload consisting of the 150gr nosler balistic tip, over imr 4831. works like a charm.
  6. Hey all i am in amarillo texas, and do any of you know of a good spot to get a nice buck or two around here? and what works and what does not work as in cammo patterns? i am a little lost. i would appreciate some hints and a few tips.
  7. hey man i use a 7mm rem mag my self, its all i use on just about everything, in some areas its too big, or almost to small, but it will still get the job done if you can shoot it with out flinching, the important thing is that you dont get the infamous shooters flinch. the 270 is perfect deer and elk round, dont listen to people who try to tell you it can kill a big mule deer, they are full of non sence. they would probly tell you that the 30.06 is a antiquated pos. and we all know its is not. the 270 is an all around platform to do you canada hunts and your white tail hunting. this is just some advice, only thing is i can really say to you is make sure that it is really what you want. if your standard 270 can take a caribou at 500 yds then you can take an elk at the same distance with no problems. its got more power then most would acknowledge. the 7mm, is a beautiful calibor. but try this, shoot it offhand WITHOUT a sled. then make your decision.
  8. i have to agree just about the same balistics as both but excellent range easy to reload and just plain fun to shoot, as for scope i would have to say get one that is in your price range it does not have to be the most expensive one on the open market, i use a bushnell dusk till dawn 3x9x40 and its lasted me a long time with no problems and they hold the zero superbly and good light gathering qualities and it was all at 79.99, did not break the bank account on it, as for the .243 i would a small light weight scope, such as a simon's 3x9x32 , for the simple reason is that the 243 is not a heavy recoiling rifle and the scope is freaking awsome
  9. No its the one with the 26'' barrel. the uplander
  10. Hey all i found a Stoger uplander in the 410 for around 350.00 and i was wondering what you all think!
  11. hey bud, for me thats simple, but for others i have no idea, i would take it to a range, and put the targets out at 100, 150,200,250,275,300 yds and raise your elevation to the according range, remember the more you raise you elevation the more you have to work to find the front post(bead, ramp Sight, what have ya) if you are set at between 100-150 yards keep it there, just hold higher, at 300 yards hold on the back of the animal and squeeze off a shot if you miss well you just missed thats all, thats the westerner talking in me, i was raised on the west coast and thats where i hunted up untill this year, but if you are set for 100-150 yds then another notch maybe two should do it. let me know where it hits. John:)
  12. hey i found me a good deal at Gander mountain, its in my favorite cal. the 7mm rem mag, and its for around 449.99 but its not in to bad of condition, ( i miss my Savage, its stuck in oregon at the moment*snivel) but i can make do with out, besides One can never have to many hunting Rifles, shotguns or pistols lol. I also found a howa .243 win for 300 i am torn between the two! HELP!!!!!! tell me what ya think
  13. hey every one i think i have found my pistol that i want. and i loved the way it felt and i dont know but i might be in love guys lol, hold me back. its in the .40 S&W soo i think i could do much worse. then there is this one too the Kahr 1911 .45acp for around 300.00 but i not sure never heard of Kahr, i was in Gander mountain today and thats where i found them. if you guys have any infor on the kahr let me know because i went to their website and could not find the 1911 on there at all, thanks John
  14. where can a fellow get a nice 1911 in decent shape, in the .45 acp? i have just always loved those things and i truly want one in the worst way, if i have to use it on some one i know for a fact that, the intended target will go down. but i would like any kind of advise, information, and such. but do remember i have just moved to Amarillo and i don't know of any place yet. thanks all John
  15. well correct me if i am wrong, but you will need powder, shot cup and a paper wad for back pressure. if i am remembering correctly you can also use just a few felt/or paper wads for the blanks in place of the shot cup and it would be much safer as well.
