First off i was wondering if i could email someone the pics so they could post them for me. I would greatly appreciate it.
Here is the story... I was hunting my favorite stand that I only hunt about 5 times a year and I saw a buck chasing a doe. I called him into 23 yards with my $5 wal mart grunt call. I put a good shot on him and my arrow hit its mark. The arrow completly passed through the deer entering right behind the shoulder and coming out on the lowerer half of the shoulder blade. My muzzy MX-4 did its job on the penetration part but left a poor blood trail. I saw the buck take off running and stop and I found a little blood where I saw him standing. I looked for about 2.5 hours that night but just could not find him or any blood. I went out the next morning(took off the first couple periods of school0) praying to get lucky and find him. I did but he I found him 150 yards in the opposite direction that I found the blood. THe coyotes had got on leg. I was upset the coyotes got some of him but happy to have found my biggest buck to date. We butchered him the next day. I did not score him but he field dressed at 183lbs. He will look good on my wall next to my 120". He was a 10 point with a sticker in froint a one split g1.
Re: Small game arrow in your deer hunting quiver?
I have a five arrow quiver and I have four for deer and one tipped with an expandable for coyotes, coyotes, and more coyotes. Great way to test your expandables.
What is the difference between the new heads and the old ones? I am looking to buy a few. Do the new heads have the 1" cut or 1-1/8" cut? Are the new ones worth getting? And one last thing if you use slick tricks how do you like them and what kind of damage do they do for you?
I know that i want to shoot a fixed blade broadhead this year. I love my spitfires but I could get the chance to hunt some mulies and the guide told me i should be able to shoot out to pretty far. So which broadhead is more accurate at bow speeds of about 275-280 fps the Muzzy or Thunderhead?
Re: Shot a nice buck!!!
well brought the deer to the butcher today and i only got the first shoulder but that is still pretty impressive with my set up.
Well I have hunted very hard the past 5 days in Illinois trying to get myself a mature buck. It has been super cold and I really wanted to get one. Yesterday at last light I saw a small six pointer coming at me so i got up to make sure there was nothing behind it but there was. It was a small spike. I put my bow down and leaned against my tree. Then I called with the can to see how close these two little bucks would come. After the third time I flipped it this 7 pointer(really a 8 because he broke one off) came walking in from nowhere. He was walking straight to me and I didn't have my bow in my hands yet. He walked all the way to 3 yards from my stand. I got my bow off the hook slowly and tried pulling back very quiet. As soon as i got it back he busted me. He ran off in to the woods about 40 yards in some thick stuff. Then the spike came running in and he followed the spike. I pulled back my bow and he started walking down a trail 20 yards away. I waited till he stopped and took the shot. The arrow hit with a great big wack and I heard the expandable broadhead open. He ran off with his chest to the ground I knew I had hit him in the shoulder. He ran off about sixty yards then stopped. Then he wobbled from side to side and fell over. I was so excited that I was able to see him fall from the stand. When i found him i was very happy to see that my Nap Scorpian XP had done its job. My bow is set at only 58lbs and the broadhead passed though both shoulders and stuck in the snow. I was very impressed with the fast opening and great blood trail i found after. The buck is a 7 pointer and was 178lbs feild dressed on the butchers scale. The butcher also aged this buck at 4 1/2. I don't think he was getting much bigger. He is not as big as last years 128 inch buck but i am still proud of him.
I was wondering if i could email the pics to someone to post??
I shot at a 140 inch deer this sunday and i thought i hit him high in the lungs. It was at the very last shooting light and i guess i was wrong.I was very excited but when i went to look for him there was no blood. I backed out and gave the buck till the next mornig. I took the day off school to look for him for 6 hours but i just coudn't. Then my dad went hunting on monday morning and the deer walked 70 yards from his stand chasing does with a nice scar on his back. I am upset that i missed him at 31 yards but am happy that he is alive and well and i might get another chance!!
The land that I hunt has produced two nice bucks a 128 inch buck for me and a 120 inch for my friend. This year we have not seen one buck over 100inches. My friend settled for a small 6 point. Well today I was walking by my stand to check my some scrapes after football a half hour after dark and there he stood, the widest deer i have ever seen w/ a foot long drop tine of one beam. He was amazingly tall and thick but the thing that stunned me the most was the wideness of his antlers. I have not seen a deer anywhere in books magazines or tv shows this wide. I am going to go hunting this weekend and i have a feeling he might walk by. This is so rare for my land I can't wait till the weekend.
