Re: The few...the proud...The OTPG!!!!!!! [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] A 300 win mag is why my father-in-law can no longer shoot a bow. [/ QUOTE ] Naaawwww. There had to be pre-existing or extenuating circumstances involved. There's not enough recoil generated by the 300 Mags to injure an adult's shoulder, outright. Sure, there's a .257 Weatherby!!! Great round. [/ QUOTE ] All I know is what the Doctor told him. Also there are several other variables that can come into play. Shooting style, shooting frequency, rifle make, and load fired. He has always shot handloads and all of his loads are red line loads in the manuals. Oh and by the way...the doctor that diagnosed his problem is a very big hunter and knows rifles and recoils. No other circumstances, just too much punishment, over too long of a time, by a gun that is just too big for any practical purpose. [/ QUOTE ] Awwww, come on.......... I ain't buying it. I have handloaded for and shot several different 300 Mags over the last 20-some years........in different types of rifles and from every concievable position. I'm on my 14th lb. of powder handloaded and shot through just one of my 300's. And the 300's are not even close to the biggest pushers I shoot on a regular basis. What I'm getting at is.....I shoot big guns and I shoot them a lot. I know how much the 300's recoil. They ain't going to ruin anybody's shoulder that is not alread predisposed to have shoulder problems (i.e. torn rotator, arthritis, etc.) Anyone who can or does shoot a 30-06 can shoot a 300 Mag and not die or even be surprised.........except maybe at how little difference there really is at the back end. As for the "too big for any practical purpose" comment...........drink up. [/ QUOTE ] Thank you very much but I prefer my Maxwell House original blend. Also, I'm not here to argue what my father-in-law was told by a LICENSED PHYSICIAN. I too, have shot many big guns 300 mags being on the lower end. However, I see no need to beat my chest and grunt about shooting a cannon that is entirely OVERKILL for the game I am hunting. You can talk of downrange energies, flatter trajectories and blah blah when in all realities most (not all) of the shooters behind the triggers are incapable of placing the shot correctly at ranges exceeding 300 yards. Personally I see no need to have my teeth rattled everytime I pull the trigger, just to say I shoot a magnum, when my 270 is more than capable of dropping anything I choose to shoot it at, at ranges the magnums boast their superiority at. I can put a compression bandage on a papercut but, in all reality a bandaid will work just as well.

Re: Cades Cove pics I was up there before Christmas and saw several good bucks. However, it seemed like the there weren't as many big bucks as years past. I only saw 4 that would go around 140ish. I normally find at least one that is 160ish or better. As soon as I get them developed I'll post some pics.

Re: What a Janurary Day Refer to the thread on global warming in politics and religion and tell me it is NOT happening.

Re: A Ford joke! [ QUOTE ] That joke is right up there with a Chevy Truck.... .......not a very good one....... [/ QUOTE ] Gotta agree...lol

Re: The few...the proud...The OTPG!!!!!!! Look at the 270 Weatherby mag. That thing is a flat demon. I can't remember but if they made a 257 Weatherby mag that would be my first choice.

Re: Where to hunt in IOWA?? Southern area...Zone 5 is great. However, you can count on NOT going until at least 2008 and more than likely 2009. It took me two points to draw for zone 5 this year.

Re: What cartridge should I go with? Hard to beat the 270 for deer. Fast, flat, and will knock them down at 400 yards if you can hold it still enough.

Re: The few...the proud...The OTPG!!!!!!! [ QUOTE ] I know a very good physical therapist that will work on your shoulders when you all have rotor cuff surgery!!! I am glad there are people like you out there because that means that I don't have to even look at those cannons!! [/ QUOTE ] Amen to that. A 300 win mag is why my father-in-law can no longer shoot a bow. Ya'll keep the cannons. I'll stick to my 270.

Re: Global Warming.... Yes I do believe it is happening. The evidence speaks for itself, glacier melt, reduction in polar ice caps, lack of snow in areas well known for it as well as other things. True, the climate does run in cycles but, I heard somewhere that we have experienced the 15 hottest years on record since 1990 and the 5 hottest since 1997, and weather records go back a whole lot farther than 30 or 40 years. As far as volcanic gases being "greenhouse" gases and they have no effect I think that is not a fair example. The amount of particulates that are ejected by a volcanic eruption are enough to actually shade the sun and lower temperatures. After the eruption of Krakatoa the earths temperature dropped by 3 degrees on average. However, Krakatoa did eject 20 times the amount of ash and pumice as Mt. St. Helens. Do I think that the human race is responsible for global warming? Not totally, but I do believe that we are helping the process along and that there are things that we as a species could do to help slow the process. Just my two cents.

Re: Bye Saddam!!! I just think that it is a crying shame that the US won't do the same to our condemned prisoners. I don't know about ya'll but I'm sick of paying to keep convicted murders alive for years and years so they can just keep on appealing.

Re: Deer feed Antler-Max is water resistant. It will stand a fair amount of rain before it falls apart. In my opinion it will probably work BETTER in a gravity type feeder over and electronic one. After all when the electronic activates the feed is totally exposed to element while lying on the ground. The demand type gravity feeder wouldn't let as much get exposed. give this stuff a shot I'm more than pleased.

Re: Deer feed Purina Antler-Max is awesome. I've been using it for two years now and last year I saw bucks gain 25 to 30 inches adn body size went up too. Go to www.deerchow.com and they have a dealer search that you can find a dealer in your area.

Re: EXPLOSION!!!!! Might be that I just can't tell the difference, or it was a proximity thing to the cause of the boom. My wife says I'm deaf as a door knob anyway I've fought a lot of fire around Eglin and I've heard the jets down there too. One thing that I've heard but I don't know if it is true....military pilots along the coast aren't supposed to go super until they are out over the open water.

Re: You\'re the one !!! LOL....too funny.

Re: EXPLOSION!!!!! [ QUOTE ] Imagine what direction all the deer scattered to!! It is kind of loud! LOL!! I have never the shuttle, but have heard my share of planes breaking the sound barrier! [/ QUOTE ] Sonic boom is a sonic boom. I've heard both planes and the shuttle coming in. I can't tell a difference. I remember the first time I heard the shuttle, I though a truck had hit the side of the shop where I was.

Re: fingers or release? I started with fingers. I still shoot fingers on my recurve but I use a Winn Free-Flight release on the compound.

Re: Women belching.... [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Whats worse than that is females who spit...notice I didn't say women or ladies? They don't spit. [/ QUOTE ] Think the last time I spit was when I was fishing and forgot I had sprayed bug spray all over me then licked my fingers to twist my line. NASTY!!!!!!!! I've heard there are some chicks down in the Big Bend area of Florida that go to the beach in their bikinis and wear their SKOAL CAN in the strap of their bathing suit. That is gross!!!!! [/ QUOTE ] Been there seen that. When you get a chance to work the fire line around some female hot shots you can see females doing all kinds of stuff....LOL

Re: West Virginia Needs A PT. Restriction!! I'm not a huge fan of point restrictions because in the long run they hurt more than help. However, it sounds like ya'll have the same problem in WV that we have here in NC. Honestly, I believe the first step would be to limit the buck harvest to just one and reevaluate after 5 years. I truly do not see where AR's are needed in any state that have multiple buck limits. If after several years of a one buck limit further change is needed then MAYBE implement AR's but only for 5 years at a max and then go bak to a one buck limit on any antlered deer.

Re: A school question for the teachers (sorry long) Just my opinion but it does sound like the teacher could be the root of the problem. Personally, I loathe these new ADD medications and that would be my last resort. Call a few other parents of kids in the same class and compare notes. You may find that others are in the same boat.

Re: Basketbrawl.... Personally, I've had it with these self centered, overpayed, childish, thugs and punks. I don't care if it is hockey, football, baseball, basketball, or tetherball this crap needs to stop. Fining a player $100,000 who has a 4 year $25 million contract is like fining any of us 25 cents. Give me a break Just my opinion but if the powers that be in any league want this to stop then put the offender's happy butts in THE STREET for good. Put them back out here in the real world with the rest of us mere mortals. Cancell those multi-million contracts and FIRE THEM, end of story. I know if I behaved on my JOB (which playing a game is theirs) I would be fired no questions asked. Yes, my job requires that I be in the public eye as well. However, not nearly to the extent that these thugs are. Just my two cents but I'd love to see some firings over crap like this.

Re: only Dang Chrud, that does look like fun. I really figured you were talking about a big dirt race I never guessed you were talking about ICE racing. Sorry, but I had to pick at ya a little bit.
