Im going with a 9 . The only problem i had was the corn getting out . That was taken care of the first week of November and after that it was great. Nice 147 in 8pt going on the wall ,taken with my bow a couple of does taken with my bow . Then came gun season, opening day was one of the most exciting i can ever remember had deer everywere.Took a couple nice does one weighing field dressed 140lbs . Then this past saturday my daughter went on her first hunt with me and in the evening sit she took a doe with the muzzeloader . She droped it in her tracks at 75 yards and i was on cloud 9. Couldnt have been more proud and happy . Thank you all for giving me the chance to hunt live the way i want too. Maybe i should have rated my year a 10 !

Been a good years so far! Im heading out in the morning , you all know what these cold fronts can do and its rained all day here were im at . Im looking forward to a great morning and i love the 15 mph wind were going to have. I do really think that the evening hunt will be on fire or should i say ill be seeing fire out the smoke pole !! I have 4 tags left with fire arm and muzzleloader 1 buck 3 doe . I am also going saturday morning and nite with my daughter to see if she can fill her tag ,looking so forward to this ,she is 14 and so busy with everything and she has taken this day to hunt with me .Great times no matter what . Remember guys and gals the season will be gone before we know it and will be missing it . Get out there and just love the outdoors and the freedom we have, so we can hunt ! Thanks to all those that have made this posiable for me . Good luck to all.

Congrats to all of you ! That was one of the best story's i have read on here . Sounds like you guys put your time in scouting as well as hunting. Farming for all has been tuff this year , With the looks of the pics of you guys and your dad maybe this will be a bright spot on this tuff year. Im not sure that everyone would put the time in that you have on this deer and set your dad up on it, Hes very lucky to have good kids!

This is the best time to call , Bucks up cruzing ,looking for does . I grunted in one across a field this past weekend and he came in on a string. If you see a buck doging a doe forget it he wont come to it. I have never had any luck just rattling and something come in . But right now its on and its the best time to try it all, there responding well if you get that buck thats looking .Just my thoughts.

Im going to start with the they got the corn picked off my farm last night at 700 pm.I was jacked up to get on stand at daylight and sit all day. Well at 730 i get a call that i needed to be at work for awhile saturday morning so i got to go hunting at 130 that afternoon . Well at 430 i see a shooter a ways off walking the edge of a crp field ,crusing for does . Noway was he going to come were i was sitting but luck would have it he crossed a creek and headed for me but then he turned and headed away so i hit the grunt call and this buck turned and made a b line right for me i get my bow up and hes through my first shooting lane and i stop him in my next one on a dime at 20 yards ,he looks right up at me broad side and i set my pin and touch it off . I was on a ridge and he was in the bottom so i was alot higher than him . Where my arrow hit him was in the lung area but maybe high but the angle down should have been good . The arrow did not pass through but when hes running away all i see is fletching so it went all the way in . I give it 30 min and go down to find blood and i do follow good blood for 75 yards but then its getting dark and i cant find blood anymore so i back out and im going back in the morning. He would be my best buck ever with a bow , i have all these thoughts going threw my head and im about sick. Wish me luck!

Im in central illinois and its warm and the crops are in, corn is starting to get cought up around my hunting ground. but when i drive around at night i see tons of deer out moving and alot of good bucks on there feet.During hunting hours nothing, i believe the pre rut and some does being breed have started but most of its going on at nite and or in the corn. You never know when the big one will come by but its going to be a tuff rut . I have about three good days to bow hunt before the gun season unloads and its not looking real good . Still i love to hunt and you cant stick em from the couch and if that dosnt work, it will be time to unleash the smoke pole on em !!!!!!

Thanks Dan ,I think im just getten a little down knowing the days off work are running out fast. I still have a few days left but the temp are going up and the fields still wet , Guess i just took the wrong week off but still have had a great time relaxing on stand. Did just get off the phone with my land owner and he thinks the corn will start getting out starting monday. So that sounds good ,come on veterans day !!!! Well good luck to you and everyone else ,Post them photos love seeing the ILLINOIS MONSTERS!

Get the corn out !!! Not to sound negative but i have been off work this week and been on stand the last five days . I have not seen one mature buck or even one mature doe from any of my stands . I hunt a 300 acre farm with more than half in very good timber and in the past have taken nice bucks from this farm but the other half is still in standing corn . Yesterday i i wanted to put up a couple stands for the up coming gun season . In the process i was on the look out for sign and saw very few rubs and just a hand full of small scrapes . I have heard other hunters seeing some chasing going on but by small ,young bucks and i keep hearing the big boys being seen at night ! I guess my question is what stage of the rut are we in ? Is most of this happing at night ,in corn or is it just slow on my farm? I know things and times of the rut can be diff at any location .But im afriad im missing it for one reason or another .Bottom line i think the corn is killing me and no one can help that , Just hope they can get it out soon!

Stinger i know how you feel , The last three years i have had to lease ground . It is very costly but in order for me to keep hunting the ground i have for years. it had to be done or lose it. The last two years have been tuff with the crops being out late and this year who knows when they will get out ,another 3 in of rain here friday. The older i get and the cost goinging through my head while i sit there kinda has been getting me down too. Pre rut here is just starting and sign is picking up and i have the week off to hunt all week and wouldnt you know it im getting a cold and feel like crap!!! Just cant win but i did go out this morning and stuck a nice doe. Im staying home tomorrow and lay on the couch and hope to get better and keep that damn cough away and be back in the tree monday morning. Im not going to tell you what to do but alot of guys on here have said to take a break and give it some time and then see how you feel . I think thats what you should do . Looking at your pics you love to hunt and you know how to do it. You will miss it in time. Good luck in what ever you do . Beef
