As a prelude to this story I live in Studio City California now, but I am originally from Oklahoma. A hunter since age 8, my predatorial instincs are sharp and keen. So it is no doubt that when I saw the gopher prance in front of my front fence as if to say, "Your yard is mine, buddy" I sprung into action. What type of weaponry would be suited for this type of a hunt? The trusty browning pocket knife. I crept out the back door in an attempt to put a stalk on the unknowing quarry. Rounding the corner of the house I saw the mighty foe in the distance, none the wiser to my presence. I took cover behind a palm tree and waited, my hunter intuition taking over. It was the calm before the storm. All of the sudden the rabid creature sprung around the corner in an attempt to latch onto my jugular, but my savvy knifework was too much for him. A clean killing blow to the back of the neck was more than the worthy adversary could handle. Making the official score MuzzyMomentz 1, Gopher 0. Here are the pics of the brutal encounter.. . . . . . . . . Check out these teeth, I am taking him in to see if he will score B&C. And the moral of the story is... You can take a man out of the woods, but you can't take the woods out of a man.

I have been trying to convince my dad to invest in food plots for our property in south eastern Oklahoma. He is finally coming around so I think we are going to plant something come spring time. I have a few questions about getting started, any help would be greatly appreciated. First and foremost, is there any type of seed that works particularly well in the south eastern region of Oklahoma? I have looked into both Biologic and Tecomate, but I am unfamiliar with the benefits of certain types of seed. Secondly, I recently hung a bow stand on the edge of some woods. There is about 45 yards between my stand and where the field becomes rocky (and I would imagine unplantable) The area in between is covered with native grass. What does it take to prepare uncultivated land to get it ready for seed? Is there specific equiment that needs to be used? We have several "fields" that have had winter wheat on them, leaving them clear cut. Would these type of areas need extra preparation for planting? Or can you just till em up and plant away? Any type of help would be much appreciated. ~Ty

Re: deer or deer hunting poems Thought I would play with a writing style.. this is a shakespearean sonnet.. An early morning brings with it a chance For a magical moment to take place You've done your homework, set high up your stands Hoping you and the monster buck will face The crisp dawn air envelopes my bones An overwhelming silence between breaths No mid-day traffic or loud telephones Just a moment of truth, for life or death All hunters live for that second in time When the worries of this world cease to be All of the planets perfectly align At the break of dawn, high in an oak tree Hunting is something you cant take away It's imbedded in my soul, here to stay

Re: deer or deer hunting poems Season's come around The joy remains the same Knock another arrow in search of big game The weather's grown cold My worries set aside Forgetting the real world to search for a moment in time The chance for a heart to race For fingers to tremble with anticipation Inhale a few deep breaths, squeeze The payoff of much contemplation The quarry is not what we hunt There's a deeper meaning still To why we find ourselves outdoors In oak bottoms and on grassy hills Its a peace in me, and a piece of me That someday I will pass to others Shoot straight, enjoy the woods Treat those among you like your brothers Hmm this is what came to mind when I first thought "Deer Poem" coulda gone on forever.. I love the outdoors so much!

Re: C\'Mere Deer The C'mere deer infomercial completely cracks me up. Is it me or does Hank Parker sound like a southern version of Will Ferrells Harry Caray mixed with a little Walt Disney's Goofy. "Garsh This C'mere Deer is AMAZING!@" Next time you see it I am sure you'll laugh. I really would like to try the product though. However, it's 25 bucks for that little jug.. I guess that's the bottom line cuz' Hank Parker said so.

Re: More meat for the freezer...2nd doe this year Congratz.. that is one fat sow of a doe!!

Re: Baiting what do you think? Might I also add that it is a rare sight to see a P&Y or a B&C buck just standing over a pile of corn, eating till his heart is content. If he already has his feeding patterns, it is going to be hard to get him to stop at a corn pile. Through the DMAPs program in Oklahoma we have to take out 28 does this year. I can think of no better way to achieve that number and success rate with mature does than throwing down a little yellow brick road. Granted there are spots where I have tree stands hung that have never once had corn under them. "Properly Scouted" stands I guess you could call them. Heck I scout, then give them a little dinner time treat to make sure they want to come back to my location. I totally agree that the rules and regulations of any state should be abided by, therefore leaving the "is it ethical" question a moot point. If its legal, take advantage.. I know that I have.
