As some of you may know, I recently graduated college and am going to be joining the Air Force in the near future. I will be going into OTS as an officer candidate, and there are two paths that I can take.
The first is non-rated, which is made up of a variety of different MOS's, such as Finance, Missile and Munitions Maintenance, and Security(which is what I am interested in.) I would be signing up for 4 years.
The other route is rated. I have taken the preliminary tests, and have a very strong chance of being selected for a pilot slot. Pilots sign on for a minimum of 10 years.
So this is my dilemma-which should I go for? I just got married, and I am somewhat hesitant to commit my next 10 years to active duty. However, I know that it would be an amazing opportunity to be a pilot. I just don't know at this point that I want to make the Air Force my career. I originally started looking into it because I have always felt a desire to serve and my wife and I are both attracted to the lifestyle-for a few years. After we want to start a family, I'm not so sure.
The rated officer selection board meets in October, and the non-rated in February, so I need to make my decision soon so I can submit my packet. Any advice?
