  1. As some of you may know, I recently graduated college and am going to be joining the Air Force in the near future. I will be going into OTS as an officer candidate, and there are two paths that I can take. The first is non-rated, which is made up of a variety of different MOS's, such as Finance, Missile and Munitions Maintenance, and Security(which is what I am interested in.) I would be signing up for 4 years. The other route is rated. I have taken the preliminary tests, and have a very strong chance of being selected for a pilot slot. Pilots sign on for a minimum of 10 years. So this is my dilemma-which should I go for? I just got married, and I am somewhat hesitant to commit my next 10 years to active duty. However, I know that it would be an amazing opportunity to be a pilot. I just don't know at this point that I want to make the Air Force my career. I originally started looking into it because I have always felt a desire to serve and my wife and I are both attracted to the lifestyle-for a few years. After we want to start a family, I'm not so sure. The rated officer selection board meets in October, and the non-rated in February, so I need to make my decision soon so I can submit my packet. Any advice?
  2. I for one am happy to see him back. Not that he is my favorite player or anything, but he was an exciting quarterback to watch and it will be interesting to see where he ends up. By the way, in my opinion, the whole sentencing was not about dog fighting. The IRS knew he was making money and didn't have any way of getting their hands into it, so they nailed him for tax evasion and knew the media would do the rest with the dog fighting. I do not think that what he did was right in any way, but IMHO the authorities were worried about more than the well-being of some dogs
  3. That is awesome! What part of Romania are you going to? My brother-in-law moved over from Romania 2 years ago
  4. .260 is a great round for deer hunting and some longer-range shooting as well-nice looking rifle!
  5. Harvick is a really nice guy-I have had the privilige of talking to him several times and each time he was very down-to-earth and approachable-which can be hard when you are having a season like he is having!
  6. I like Mikey, you can always count on him to provide some laughs in front of a camera-especially when he tries to drive a race car! He will be a much better owner than driver.
  7. Truex will do better at MWR than DEI, hands down. He is a very talented driver and Mikey has put together a very good group of people over there, along with an outstanding facility. Mikey has never the same level of driver as Truex-Reutimann and Ambrose have both impressed me this year.
  8. count Spidey in-I like the way Yahoo runs their leagues
  9. The trucks have a whole covered bed that acts as a huge wing for downforce. If the COT did not have the wing on the back with all the front bite that the splitter provides, there is no way they could get the cars to handle decently. I don't necessarily like the way the COT looks, but it has stood up admirably to some horrific crashes since its inception, so I'm for it. And I really don't think the racing has been bad with it-this year there has been a lot of side-by-side racing. And I give NASCAR huge props for the double-file restarts-it is the best rule change under Bill France Jr. in my opinion. Back to the subject of Danica-I would like to see her in NASCAR, I think it would bring new storylines to the sport, attract new sponsors, generate interest...but that being said, she needs at least 1 full year in ARCA and the Nationwide series first. It would be a huge mistake to put her straight into the Cup series. No matter how good of a driver you are, you must first learn the basics. And in stock cars, it is a whole lot more than learning how to drive your car fast-it is learning how to relay information back to your crew chief to make a bad car good-constantly. That is why Jimmie Johnson is such a good driver-even though I am definitely not a fan, he and Knaus are able to keep up with the changes that need to be made to the car throughout the race. And I think that is Jr's biggest problem. We all know that when he gets a fast car, he is as talented as any of them. But where he falls short is when they show up to the track with a middle-of-the-pack car...because that's usually where it stays. Sorry for the long post, just got a little carried away!
  10. I'm sure most of you have seen this, but it bears reposting-Congressman Peter King telling it like it is... http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6dngVeyZ7Y
  11. Just one of the many reasons I don't waste my time in front of a TV!!!
  12. Thanks everybody!!! I'm living in Grand Rapids for the time being, still trying to find a temporary job. I'm applying for a pilot spot in September, I just finished with my testing and physicals, now I have to wait around for the next Officer Board to convene. I'm really excited about the wedding Saturday, we are getting married in her parents' back yard-praying for good weather! We will be travelling down to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge for the honeymoon. Here are a few of the engagement shots...
  13. Hey guys, most of you probably don't remember me, but I used to hang out here on the Realtree forums all the time. I just wandered back, and it is really cool to see that a lot of you are still here. A lot has happened since I was on here last, I graduated college in May, moved to Michigan, am getting married this Saturday, and am joining the Air Force in the fall. Anyway, just thought I'd say howdy, and I'm looking forward to getting aquainted with everyone again!
  14. That's awesome-i have wondered why they can't do something like that before. I wonder how hard it is to turn?
  15. yep-he is definitely the minority driver that Nascar has been clamoring for. He has done a great job for Gibbs, and will for DEI too
  16. So the guy who caught the Barry Bonds ball is putting it up for auction because he can't afford to pay the taxes that the IRS is demanding based on the perceived value of the ball. How can they put a ridiculously high tax on a ball that costed under $10 before he has even sold it? I can see them wanting their share after the sale, but the guy is being forced to give up a piece of history because of the greed of the IRS. It's just wrong folks! Tainted or not, he deserves to be able to keep it if he wants to.
  17. I think either Martin or Truex would fit fine in the car...I personally hope it's Truex-after all, he did win his 2 Busch championships in the #8
  18. I think they have been collaborating on their engine-building, but from what i understand they haven't started using the new engines yet
  19. Thanks for all your prayers...Colleen is pretty overwhelmed with it all, Lori lived less than a mile from her and they went running together and talked a lot...One of the worst parts of it all is that nobody from the family contacted her ex-boyfriend(they broke up earlier in the summer). He lives in Arizona and i guess they partly blame him, so Colleen had to notify him-he couldn't even come to the funeral. Add another person to the list to pray for-pray that he doesn't blame himself too much...i think it will be harder on him than anyone....Colleen left him a message last night, and is going to talk to him today-that is going to be hard with all that she is dealing with anyway. Thanks guys
  20. Jeff had a tire going down when he got turned, i think kenseth just couldn't stay off of him.. Jr had a good day but overshot his pit box on the last stop and lost 10 spots...just the way his year is going! I hope DEI can get the engine deal fixed soon-they will be running the RCR/DEI engines by the chase though, so maybe that will fix the problem
  21. While at work today, my girlfriend called me to say that she had just found out that one of our friends from college had died tragically. She was good friends with Colleen and they lived in the same little city in Michigan. She had just graduated college in May and was having some personal problems, dealing with a breakup and depression. Colleen had been trying to get in touch with her for a week but she wasn't returning calls, and today they saw her name in the obituaries, so Colleen left work to go to the funeral-she is taking it really hard. We're not sure but it was probably suicide. Please pray for Colleen and the Whipple family. She was a 22 year artist, just getting started in life. This type of thing reminds us to notice the people around you, be willing to listen, and never hesitate to say "I Love You"
  22. If he does get a number in the 80's, i hope it will be 88. Knowing Jr though, he will come up with something good. He's got a pretty smart head on his shoulders.
  23. Am I correct in assuming that she is going to PCC? I will be a junior there this year, studying Business Management/Marketing...this her first year?
  24. how does it shoot? I have never tried the 20gr, but all the 17gr shoot really well, and most shoot to the same point of impact-nice not to have to re-zero it when i try a new brand of ammo!
