  1. I called this bear in Sunday with my Foxpro. Was just getting ready to dig out my hand calls when he showed. I started with cub in distress and after 15-20 minutes switched to Snowshow distress. The shot was 244 yards with my Remmy Model 7 in 260. Last years was a dink but this one is about as average as you can get. 5' exactly right around 200 lbs. Thats bear three in as many years two of which were called in. WooHoo!!!
  2. Well guys, I'm out. No luck this year. What a terrible season. The weather was terrible for a lot of the season and when it wasn't the birds just werent talking. I've never seen a year like this and I'm sure sorry. On two weekends of helping my friend with his bear hunt we heard 1 gobble but saw 23 bears. It was a great spring for bears but terrible for turkeys. Buddy didn't shoot a bear. He passed on several dinks, missed a giant, and a medium blacky gave us the slip on the last day. Anyways sorry I didn't contribute, but thats the way it goes sometimes I guess.
  3. Last weekend was a bust. The birds in my area were ice cold but we did locate an area that looks like it's holding a good bear by the size of the shat we found. Apparently everywhere else in the state the birds were on fire. LOL. Anyways didn't go out today due to the wind and work being so hectic. I'll be hitting it tomorrow for sure. Still have about 5 weeks left. Talk to you all soon. Congrats to those who got one and good luck to all the others.
  4. Well, I leave in the A.M. for the weekend. Will be hunting turkeys in the morning and evening. My buddy drew a spring bear tag for the area so I'll help him find a bear during the day. This could potentially be an AWESOME weekend. Hope the bears are out and the Toms are horny. Good luck everybody!!!!
  5. Good sig pic. I'll get it up when I have a little time. 3 weeks to wait. WOOHOO!!!!!! Can't wait to hit the woods. Good luck everyone!!!!
  6. Checking in. Don't care much about the name myself but would like to suggest "face full of fours". Can't wait to start chasin but I've still got 5 weeks to wait. I don't come around to often but I'll definately be hunting. I can usually scrape up a bird or two. Hope I thump a biggy this year.
  7. There's tons of merriams and public land here in WA. The NE corner of the state is where to go. Chewela, Colville, Springdale, Loon Lake. Tons of public land. Come on out.

  10. The last two trips have been a bust bust but finally called in this little fighter. He challenged me for about 10-15 minutes and I thought he got away as he sounded a long ways off. Turned out he was about 200 yards below me but the snow muffled his howls. I popped him at about 150 yards. Looks like the doggy rut is starting. Calling should get good in the next couple of weeks. Put a sneak on one later that day but he got away.
  11. I use a .223 or a 220 swift. The one I got was with a .223 the other was with a 22-250. .17 Fireball is good but .223 will not necesarily blow up a yote. Depends on the bullet and if you hit bone. You may even want to look at the .204. My .223 has worked pretty well this year but it did damage this one due to a spine hit. Actually both of these got tore up pretty badly. It happens. If your calling you'll get a lot of frontal shots. .223, 22-250, 220 swift with appropriate ammo will do no pelt damage on a frontal with a square hit.
  12. Sureshot, I start every single stand with a howl. Then a distress of some sort, lately it's been Raccoons. Then I'll mix in some yips, then full fledged pup in distress to finish. I don't use challenges until I get challenged, then I wait and throw in pup in distress. that doesn't always close the deal but it does quite often. Sounds like you and I have similar styles. I like the old fawn bawls but when that gets cold (right now) I go more with sounds that just plain piss them off. I sure wish I had the population you have. I just can't believe the ammount of dogs you knock off. 20-40 a season is good for me.
  13. No head shots. The other was heart shot and bled out pretty good in the tote. This one must have just got some on it. I don't like to head shoot. It's too messy and too small of a target.
