  1. My first deer was a yearling doe. I was actually walking to my stand and she and her mama were drinking from a pond. I actually shot her without a release on! Haha. And I was lucky enough to tag out that year, killing a basket rack 8 point about 3 weeks later.
  2. I'm a police officer and for my off duty weapon I carry a Springfield XDS. It's a .45 cal with a 5+1 capacity. 5 round single stack magazine. It's easy to conceal in an inside the waistband holster and it shoots like a dream. It has a tang and trigger safety and not nearly as much recoil as you would think for a subcompact pistol.
  3. It used to be cold in Illinois during deer season? Come on high of near 65 today and deer movement is zilch, zip, nada...
  4. No unfortunately the YouTube link is mostly them talking about it.. but its the best I could find.. Just wanted to throw it out for everybody to watch for if they have outdoor channel
  5. Just saw on "Dream Season-The Journey" footage of two absolute monsters locked up. The Lindsey's who hunt in Iowa are who got the footage. They freed the two by lassoing them and using a pole saw to cut one of the antlers off. You can see at least part of the footage by YouTubing "Locked B&C bucks Dream Season-The Journey." Definitely well worth your time to look up
  6. I use G5 T3's as well and love em.. They fly just like a field point and put a huge entry hole in deer. They also have the same type of tip that Muzzy's do so you can punch through bone. If you want a fixed blade I would recommend G5 montecs
  7. Hey everybody! Been a really long time since I've been on here. Quick update on my life. I'm now a police officer in central Illinois. I got hired in April 2011 and life has been crazy since. I love every minute of it, just haven't had a lot of time to get on here. Hope everyone is doing great! Now to my story. This is the first year my dad have run trail cameras extensively. We have an awesome property that we have permission to hunt and had been getting great pictures of 3 really nice bucks. We didn't have a stand in that area, so in the last week of September, Dad and I went and hung a set about 100 yards from one of our cameras. Now to Oct 2. My first hunt in the brand new stand. It had drizzled on and off all afternoon and about 6:30 the sun started poking out. Next thing I know, this buck is turning the corner and walking right to me. He stops a couple times and works a few scrapes along the field edge, then keeps coming. He got to about 25 yards and I drew. He finally turned and gave me a slightly quartering to shot and I took it. He mule kicked and ran into the timber. I gave him about 2.5 hours before I went and looked for him. Had an awesome blood trail almost all the way, but we lost it going down into about a 40 foot deep ravine. Well we walked into the ravine and split up and my buddy found him about 10 yards away. The funny part of this story was the next morning when we went back to get him in the daylight, he had actually climbed the other side of the ravine, died at the top, and then slid all the way back down. LOL Oh well, that happens. Haha. He's a 3.5 yr old buck, field dressed at 210 lbs. I grossed him as he is at 132", but he's got 3 inches busted off his left G2 and 5 inches broke off his main beam. This is only my second buck ever with a bow and first since 2001. He's my second biggest buck ever. First picture was the night we find him. Last two are the next morning. 8. I agree. If Michael is anything, he's not a poacher. He likes to kid around and have fun while he's hunting which is what hunting is all about. I believe he says in one episode that his bear tag is also good for wolves in Alaska.
  9. Holy crap Kyle. I mashed my finger in a folding ladder on a tandem grain truck last year and that hurt. I ended up losing the nail. I can't imagine how much pain you must be in buddy. Hope they can get everything reattached and the bones fixed and you heal quickly man.
  10. I take 5, 3 with broadheads, 2 with field points for that pesky squirrel or to take a practice shot once I'm up in my stand.
  11. Thanks slayer and same to you!! I can't hunt til the 5th due to work, but I can promise you I will be in a tree that Wed morning barring something unforeseen. Stay safe everyone and good luck!!
  12. Well last year I lost 2 deer, a 130" 8 point and a doe using Muzzy Broadheads. I still swear I centerpuched the buck but there was very little blood and after 8 hrs of searching never found him. The doe laid down within 10 yards of the shot and I backed out, but she jumped up and ran as I was walking out. I gave her over an hr and when I went back, I found a pool of blood in the bed that was almost 1.5 feet in diameter. I searched for that doe for 6 hrs and never found her, losing blood after about 75 yards. I have shot Muzzy's for 12 years and had yet to lose a deer shooting them, however last year upset me with the lack of blood I was finding on shots. Heck I hadn't even had to blood trail a deer I had shot with Muzzy, they had all fallen within sight of my stand. I have also been having problems with Muzzy's not flying right, even if fletched to my vanes. So this year I decided to go with the G5 T3 expandables. I did some research and spoke with a couple of pro-staffers at Scheel's sporting goods and they recommended them. So far they are flying perfect with my arrows and have not had any of them not open on a target. I can't wait to get in the woods on Oct 5, my first chance to hunt and hopefully stick one in a big ole buck. I've been doing my scouting and we have 3 new stand set-ups, all with good buck sign. Hopefully I can catch one of em sneakin through workin the scrape and rub lines. Good luck to all this season and hopefully I have some pictures to show in about a week!!!!
