    RIP Tom Knapp

Wow...He was a great shooter. Last year Byron Ferguson, then Bob Munden...Now Tom Knapp. Heck I'll even throw in George Jones too. Some great old timers we are losing.
  2. We are not allowed to shoot dogs here in NYS...Even if they are chasing deer during hunting season. Now...This past fall I shot a pitbull that was running with coyotes...Yes it was with a pack of yotes. The Alpha was shot first on a Monday by another in my camp. Weds morning the same pack came trotting up the trail and I dropped a bobbed tail dog(with a funny head I thought) that I thought was a mangy yote. Turns out it was a Pitbull. I asked a DEC officer about the legality of it all. He said shooting dogs is a no no generally here in NYS. BUT...If they are running with yotes...They are fair game. It should have picked better friends to hang out with. We ringed the neck looking for a chip. No chip, no collar VERY muscular and heavy. This was on family land.
  3. They most likely made that doe dinner already. It looks as if she is wounded in the left rear inside leg. The yotes smell blood and are hungry. How come you didn't shoot those yotes and make them good ones? Cool vid...Thanks for posting.
  4. Congrtas Steve...Must be one proud Poppa . Wish her much success in the future.
  5. Very sad...I just heard they found a few more unexploded bombs also.

    Deer Mount

I would have no issue at all using a cape other than the one I harvested. Especially after the time frame you waited to mount the deer in. Unless as Fly has said. If it was a double throat patch...then...You would have mounted it to begin with. Good Luck.
  7. I support the NRA Fly...Not NY Bowhunters. NYB supports the second amendmant and we stick to archery ONLY issues. But. NYB did make a stand and come out against the recent NYS draconian gun laws and the publishing of pistol permit holders names and address online.
  8. Some fancy shootin there Luke . Great way to tune up before lopping them gobber heads clean... off.
  9. Prayers on their way...Darla. He is a nice young man. Hope he gets well soon.
  10. During Barack Obama's presidency there have been 32 background checks for gun purchases every minute. Since February of 2009, the first full month of Obama's presidency, there have been 70,291,049 background checks for gun purchases, according to data released by the FBI. Using February 1, 2009 as our starting date, and March 31, 2013 as our end date, (the latest data from the FBI) Obama has been president for 1,520 days. That equates to 36,480 hours, or 2,188,800 minutes. Divide the 70,291,049 background checks by 2,188,800 minutes and you get approximately 32 checks for gun purchases every minute!

    Bison Steaks

Ahaa! You found out what some of us already know. Bison meat tastes great. I can only get ground bison here in NY. But when I am in Texas each year...I make it a point to eat a bison steak...or two while I am down there. Good stuff.

    Prayers Needed

    Sad...Prayers sent.
  14. Congrats to you and the Mrs! Awesome...Totally awesome. What Joe said...deer season births get in the way...My oldest was born during the Rut(Nov25)...boy did he interfere with hunting season:clown:
  15. Your gonna laugh John...But Tink already asked me to . He runs a bunch of bow shoots in the area and in our conversations...he asked me to join. Corey from here already has gotten me on Texasbowhunters.com I'm loving that site! Thanks Corey! Yes, I am moving to Texas...But not right now. I have about 6 more years to put in until I can retire. That will give me 35 years in NYC electrical construction. I'd say that is enough in ANY business. Let alone construction. My son Joe just got back from our Texas property and he did some hunting there too. The Rios wouldn't cooperate or the Axis...But the hogs did. He shot a nice big sow on our neighbors land in Harper. Thanks for the congrats guys.
  16. I have been a member of NY Bowhunters for about 12 years and have gotten involved in hunting issues in my county for quite a while now. That led to me becoming a county rep for NYB. I have been helping out in hunter ed courses, organizing our counties first Nat'l Hunting and fishing day( with NYB handling the archery for that day), worked with the injured and disabled to teach archery at an area rehab hospital several times a year, served the homeless venison meals at a shelter with other sportsmen in NYC during the holiday seasons, gone to countless meetings with legislators in my county regarding issues involving the outdoors or shooting sports, helped plan/organize the Friends of the NRA dinner here and I try to take someone new hunting each year. I can go on and on about how important it is for me to give back and how I do it. A few months ago I was asked by the President of NewYork Bowhunters to come aboard and run in a election to become an officer. I accepted and won that election. This past weekend I spent at Canadaigua lake in WAY upstate NY( 6.5 hour drive for me). There NYB had its annual banquet and fund raiser. I was made a Board of Director for NY Bowhunters. We are the largest organization in NYS representing over 3500 paid members throughout the state. NYB runs youth camps helping kids get their hunter ed certificate and the Camo to Camo program for sending our troops boxes of various items to help them smile a bit while in the sandbox. That is just a bit of what NYB does. So now as a officer I will need to work even harder to protect the outdoors and spread the word of how great hunting is! I must say...watching the generosity of some on this board encouraged me to go out and help other like mided people who love the outdoors and hunting. Thank you. If your a New Yorker and bowhunt...You should belong to NYB. www.newyorkbowhunters.com
  17. We have had Robins here for a few weeks now. One tell tale sign for me is seeing woodchucks. Keeping the .22mag by the door:). Here comes the pollen mnoild and spore season!
  18. I must agree on a few of the aforementioned. Facebook and twitter seem to be all the rage now with computers and mobile devices. That has stolen a good deal of people from here. Now...as for the holier than thou crowd... That also had something to do with folks leaving. I know we must all play nice and it is a family board that youth frequent. But I have seen a few that are quite thin skinned and take lots of stuff to heart. Most of us here are eager to teach and spread what they know about a plethora of topics. Many here are quite generous also and will stop at nothing to do something nice for someone. A few here are also Master torturers who keep thier license current. Either way...I'm not leaving. I have made and met some nice folks here at Realtree since 2005 and this BB has been my introduction to BB's and how I measure other BB's that I frequent. I am happy to be a member here. BTW...I don't do facebook or the other stuff either. Yeah Yeah Yeah...I know...Im a dinosaur at 48
