Doesn't your draw length get determined by what rest you are using? Some rests are set more towards the string and some are set towards the riser. A whisker biscuit will make for a shorter arrow where as a drop away would make for a longer one. I shoot a NAP Quicktune 3000 rest have a 29" draw and shoot and shoot a 29" Beman 380-16.

How many deer have you shot with a bow, recovered, and legally tagged?
Adjam5 replied to fly's topic in Bowhunting
Hmmm Lets see... I was a late bloomer when it came to bow hunting. I started with the bow in 2001 and on my very 1st bow hunt and the very 1st deer I saw I put in the freezer. With a compound bow that had plastic wheels not cams, and was an inch too long on the draw. Since then I have made at least 1-2 bow kills every year. The year I got my Mathews Outback in 04, I did lose a tall spike I shot, but recovered him a few days later with help from the vultures:rolleyes: Now I have moved towards the recurve. My goal is to be consistent enough with that, to take it hunting this season. -
Nice shop good luck with the move! I see every shop fridge is always stickered up:D

Thats a tough problem to have...Hang in there. We need to see pics!

You'll be fine. The Brooklyn Aquarium is a great place to visit, see if you can make it over there. Not much happening down at Ground Zero:(, just a big hole in the ground, but still a moving place to visit. NYC still bites...believe me. I lived in the vicinity for the last 43 years, but it has gotten way better in the last 10 or so years. Times Square is now a family place with cops everywhere. Have a safe trip and don't buy ANYTHING off the street!!!

Good Luck Willfish! -
I thought there was one more good head that I did not get a pic of. Joe noticed that too in the post, and said something. He had the good one stashed away. Here it is. This is the best one we found.

I have made other posts regarding recent finds on our hunting trip to West Texas. Sheds, skulls, arrow heads and meteorites. This desert area has frequent showers. Our friend who has the lease on the 40,000acres showed us what to look for and we found a bunch more.

You kidding me? A opportunity to show off my kids. Theres no prouder Dad:) My 3 sons...dananaanaaa dananaanaaa:D. Joes 8pt last year. Flanked by AJ on left and Michael on right. They are now 16,14 and 11. Joes 1st bow kill deer. Awesome gobbler Joe called in for me...What a day!
-
Yes we did. I kind of knew what to look for, and after we found the 1st one I showed my son Joe and he went on a tear finding about 4 more. Let me remind you we were on a 40,000 acre ranch! Who knows that last time certain land was walked or searched for artifacts or sheds? The property's border was some University's land and they had signs up at every access point about 'NO Trespassing, artifact hunting, no shed hunting, no hunting...period" seeing that sign alone told me we were in Indian territory and I'd be in sheds or arrowheads if I kept my eyes open.

That bird feeder is mounted from a extended post behind the fence. I have a steel 45degree arm, 18" with a 12" steel extension with a eye hook in the middle of the lid to hang the feeder. We have loads of HUGE white oaks back here and the squirrel population is enormous as is the whitetail population;) That feeder gets a good workout every morning so far. The one with a half of tail has not been back. My son Joe took a shot at that one with his bow and missed...kind of. He took the other half of his tail off:D I get loads of entertainment from the critters that plague my backyard. I had coon/trash problems too. But, nothing that a coon cuff didn't cure;) There is such a lack of critter control here in suburbia.

Thats me giggling:D. Some of vids all you heard was me laughing and the camera wiggling:p . I even dropped the camera once as I raised my hands up in victory, (making the crowd noise) the 1st time I saw the squirrel fall. You are so right about the little things that make grown men smile.

These arrowheads really gave me a bug to make my own. We also found larger rocks that arrowheads were made from, we shipped them home with the sheds and skulls. Soo...I bought a book on knapping and a knapping tool. Gonna fool around a bit and try to make my own. Oh yeah, another thing we found also were meteorites. We were told that this area of Texas gets Meteorite showers. Our friend showed us what one looked like and we found many others. I should post pics of those too.

I'm winning so far...They are smart critters. The best part Chris is watching him fall off the lid because his claws can't dig in as they reach under. One little squirrel with a 1/2 of a tail jumped on it but did not hang on long and dropped too. They get frustrated and sit on the fence post flicking their tail until they leave or try again. I can't walk by Joes room without looking out his window and getting a show.

There is not much difference. Your talkin' 10/10,000ths of an inch. I don't think you'll notice the difference. Heavy shot is better for larger small game like yotes, but it works wonders on turkey also I am told. It also is like 3-4X the price of standard copper plated turkey shot. You need to decide on how deep you wish to dig for turkey loads. The object of all turkey shooting is to get as many pellets in the kill zone. The larger the opening of the choke, the larger the pattern will be. The heavy shot chokes most likely are the ones that handle the newer heavier shot without any damage to the choke tube or threads. I like my Turkey chokes .695 and smaller.

These are the arrow heads my son and I found while we Rio/shed hunting in Iraan, Texas 2 weeks ago. We had a sense of being in the right area hunting, when you find Indian arrowheads.

Cool pics. Neet how you got soo close to them. They will smarten up just about October:D

We like seeing the birds and we fill the feeder often. But those dang pesky tree rats spill the feeder and eat all the suet cakes I put out for the song birds. Shooting them with the airgun was a easy option. I opted to match wits with it:rolleyes:. I extended the feeder arm by 12", took the cover for the paper recycle bin. Drilled a hole in the center, placed it over the suet cake like a roof. Watch what the squirrel can't do:D I think I won. The same suet cake has been there for 4 days now and only the birds who are supposed to eat it..eat it. Woo HOO!

We have a Gander Mtn here in Middletown,NY. The Archery dept, especially a guy named Nick are top shelf and class acts all the way. Gander may not carry the Mathews and Bowtechs ect, but they can set up and fix just about anything I have seen brought across the archery counter. We have gotten great advice from the Archery Pros at Gander and reliable repairs too. Their gun dept leaves a bit to be desired:rolleyes: and they way they leave all those NEW rifles/shotguns, same models and calibers to be banged around on a rack by customers. We are talking like Browning Cynergy's and Ruger Red Labels and Steyr Rifles, on the rack for anyone to handle. Every gun has bangs, scratches, nicks and dents in 'em. When I have bought rifles/shotguns at Gander, I have always asked for a gun out of the back, never off the shelf, unless it was used.

We are few and far between, hunters. So any organization that promotes hunting and the shooting sports is definitively needed. The NWTF is our "save the turkeys" mantra. Of course we still need the NWTF.

We have 3 Gamo airguns here. All of them are quality made and accurate too. I have never seen a Gamo piece of junk. We use our Gamo's also to trim the small varmint population here in our suburban environ without alarming the neighbors. I have a animal lover next door:rolleyes:, who's husband is a local cop, so I may know what you go through...maybe even a little more. I'd love to be able to shoot a few doves here. They are illegal to hunt in NY. Gamo also makes a airgun called the "Whisper". That is something that, we; with problem neighbors could most likely use. It is almost like a silenced airgun. http://www.gamousa.com/Catalog.aspx?Family=71 Check it out.
