  1. Crow hunting is awesome. Those birds are very smart too. Have you ever checked out www.crowbusters.com My sons and I use the FoxPro caller, crow dekes and a owl deke standing over a small lambs hide. Man...do they hate owls. MY experience is to shoot the sentry and the rest will come looking for it. Get them nest raiders:D
  2. If it will be primarily used for bow hunting, I'd say the Summit Broadhead Backpacker. It folds flat, not like the other Summits. It is light,19 lbs. Has a open front( I shoot my bow sitting from it= less movement). It is very quiet and sturdy. You can fall asleep in it and it is easy to assemble, like ALL Summits. For gun hunting, look at the Summit Viper. It has a shooting rail. Summit Summit Summit:D Good Luck with whatever you choose.
  3. Trail cams sure re-invented the way we hunt and look at deer. Cool pics. Good luck baggin' him.

    bear pics

Are they in season when your deer season is open? Just make sure you don't climb the tree they are in when its dark OK?
  5. Nice character on that buck on the left. Thanks for sharing.
  6. My son wants a slug barrel and a scope for his Mossberg 500. He is determined to take a deer with the 1st gun he ever bought. It will be for his Christmas and birthday presents, So I got him a OEM rifled barrel scope combo from Cheaper Than Dirt. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/21582-54065-2276.html This barrel has a cantilever scope mount so you could swap out the barrel for a scattergun and still be on zero when the slug barrel goes back on. I have always hunted with a rifle and know nada about slug guns. Joe will be 16 and able to hunt on his own this year with a gun, so I need to get this gun set up for Nov25th. His birthday. Heres my question... Any recommendations on .20ga slugs? I think I want him to shoot the Hornady SST's or even the Lightfields. I've heard mixed stuff about them. Any input on ammo or slug gun tips appreciated. Thanks!
  7. Good Luck Hope you guys get a good deal. In solidarity there is strength.
  8. Go get 'em BigBuck...its always good to have a plan.

    buying a new bow

FYI...Bowtech was just purchased by Savage Firearms. http://www.bowtecharchery.com/main.html Good Luck with the new bow.
  10. Ahhh Kids....They ARE the best You could not make up a story like that. Awesome memories and more to come. Congrats on the bird and being a Great Dad too. My son told me to look for this article and read about Joe and his daughter. Am I glad I did.
  11. Buckee...Thanks for the Banner! Nice job! Awesome Buck too Adrenaline Junky. I love the bladed G3 on the left side.. Nice going. Let go team APH....mt deer season gets going this Saturday and I am itchy....
  12. OOO YEAH....Go Team APH....Nice Buck too. Congrats!
  13. Welcome to the forums Cinch. Tiffany huh?... I wanna be Lee Then come the kiddies.... How long before Tiffany has a baby and says goodbye tree stand and hello pampers? That would be a great thing for them to have kids, natural progression. Jay Gregory, his wife and their son are making some good hunting shows together. It also looks like Ralph and Vicki are too bringing the kids into the hunting show too keep the family together while on the road. That has to help keep the family less stressed from being on the road.
  14. I bought it last year($21.99/1 lb) to use with my T/C Thunder hawk, which only likes powdered propellant. To try something different than pyrodex RS. I got inconsistent velocities from Shockeys Gold FFG using 90-125 grs with 300gr Maxi hunter bullets. It did not shoot well in the T/C or the CVA that I put it through. Both take 209 primers. It is sitting in the back of the powder cabinet. I am sticking with Pyrodex RS for the T/C and 777 for the CVA.
  15. I just took my trapping course last week and the instructor did not mention any of this???? Thanks for the heads up!
  16. In northern NJ last spring, it was all over thew local news here. A yote attacked a 5 year old kid and was dragging the kid in the woods. The kids 8 year old sister beat the dog with a stick and the yote took off. The 5 yo sustained bite marks to his shoulder and head area, but the kid is OK. The yote was eventually shot. I guess they will attack whatever they feel like they can kill or are superior to. This is in a area where there is just about NO hunting at all. What do they expect? This is the same area that fought to do away with the NJ bear hunt. Just wait until someone gets attacked by a bear. I hope it never happens, but when wildlife goes unchecked, it creates problems for us all.
  17. Very cool pic that will define that day forever. Thanks for sharing it.
  18. Great round the 7mm Mag, and there is NOTHING wrong with being a gun accumulator
  19. I picked up a Stag Arms lower a few weeks ago and I paid $249+tax. I'm sure you can do better outside of NY. You can also buy the upper without paperwork and shop it real good. Start with the receiver and go from there. That will require a 4473 to fill out at your gun dealer. Uppers can be bought online and thru the mail and can go from $400-$1500. Here are a few suggestions; http://www.lewismachine.net/ http://www.tangodown.com/index.html http://www.rockriverarms.com/ http://www.stagarms.com/ and a source for 5 round AR mags for hunting with. http://www.mwgco.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?page=MWG/PROD/AR-15_MAGAZINES/MWG-223-005 Good Luck whatever you choose.
  20. When I hunt the suburbs which is bow only...the quiet cart of death is used to retrieve game. We hunt the Catskills of New York(the southern zone), where we have our hunting land. I'll use my Kodiak 400 4X4 (Thats my son on it) for everything but deer hunting. Deer stand getting to, is done the old fashioned way...walking.
  21. You have the X5 already... so you might be able to just buy a a different upper half of the stand(chair part) to lighten your load. If your gonna buy another Summit and it will be primarily used for bowhunting, then give the Summit Broadhead Backpacker a hard look. It is THE only climber I will use when it comes to bowhunting. It folds flat, not like the other Summits, it is light( 17lbs) Has a open front. Sets up easy as do all Summits. It enables me to shoot sitting down, that = Less movement. With the bow holder on the rail... deer look out! Check it out. http://www.summitstands.com/catalog.aspx?catid=broadhead I have not heard good things about the tree lounge.
  22. My sons and I will be out there this weekend chasing birds in unit 3H. Dang...that bites about having to wait until October 20th. Anyone know why that is? Anyone e mail a DEC biologist? Unless there is some wild reason why, I cannot see the difference in birds in the lower or eastern part of the state. DEC has made some BIG changes( youth seasons/bear firearm starting earlier) as of late and I think with the proper campaign, you guys out there might be able to get things changed. Its not like the rut. It takes one e mail to get the ball rolling. How bad do you want it?
  23. I wash them about every week that I hunt 3 days or more in them. For starters I like to rain wash them. Leave them out in the rain and then let them air dry. Thats how I prep the clothes for opening day. Hang the clothes outside if you can or maybe on a screened in porch to let the air whip thru them. I also like Scent Away earth scent spray for cover.
  24. Good Job and have NO regrets about what you did. You did THE right thing.
  25. I stole the APH from Realtree...Ha! But to me it means All purpose Hunters. My apologies Mr.Jordan
