I wait until gunshows to stock up on ammo, brass and componants. Unless I REALLY REALLY need them. Gander Mtn sells the Black Hills re man 50gr V Max .223 ammo at $20 for 50 rounds. Thats a good deal to get the V max bullet and a Black Hills load for that price. That is the varmint load that goes thu my AR.

Really sweet bow there Jim. Good Luck with it! That wood is georgeous! Would you consider the Bob Lee line to be as good or better than the Howard Hill line of bows? For those who want to get into the stick n string, therer are some good deals on E bay to be had on recurves. Just know what you want before you buy, it can get very confusing.

I had teacher conferences that night at Joes school, and after we were done, in the parking lot of the school, we were fooling with the turkeys roosted accrss the road. Parents leaving slamming their car doors were making those birds gobble thier heads off. Joe and I trying to make turkey sounds without calls...getting crazy looks from parents leaving and them not having ANY idea of what we were doing. It did get me fired up for the season though. As Joe said lots of sign on and around our land. We are feeling confidant.

I have 2 835's and I use a undertaker choke in one with Winchester supreme 3" shells; and in the other 835 I use a ported Lohman .675 tube. I am good out to 40 yards with both guns and have not shot further than that. #5's in 3 1/2" are supposed to be long range turkey medicine. For me the 3 1/2" shells are just a bit much. I like getting the birds in close.

Re: TURKEY TEAM #7 Thats good news Nick. This teams gonna kick some butt. If the weather holds out this weekend, I'm gonna try and get a peak at the birds my sons; Joe and my 13 year old, AJ and I will be chasing on the youth weekend here in NYS. We will be hunting the 3H area for the youth season and 3J for the regular turkey season. I am soo in Gobbler mood.

Re: 223 ammo Bob Take a look at Black Hills ammo. They have a 77 gr Sierra Match HP that might be what your looking for. http://www.black-hills.com/rfactorynew.htm Gander Mtn in Middletown,NY carries Black Hills. I use the 50gr V Max out of the AR's I have.

Re: Grannis got in [ QUOTE ] No thank you on the crossguns! [/ QUOTE ] Joe we have bigger fish to fry besides crossguns now that Grannis is in office. Ranger, I am member of NYB and it was bothering me, big time; that they did not take a stance on Grannis. But short of God on our side, I don't think it would have made a bit of difference. The democrap wave is gaining speed and this is ALL part of the dismantling of the Sportsman. I hope in EVERY way to be wrong about Grannis, that could only mean good for NYS hunters.

Re: bore butter? [ QUOTE ] Why would you want a wax in your barrel? It does not "season" the steel. When the guns had barrels that were based from iron, that was a different story. Today, we have advanced from the stone age and use modern steel. Bore Butter would be a decent protector when the gun is stored, but it will not provide any benefit while shooting. When I shoot I want a good seal between the bore's lands and grooves and my bullet or sabot. That creates velocity and usually the best accuracy. [/ QUOTE ] AHHHAAAA! Thanks AJ! I too have always bought the whole natural thing when it came muzzleloaders, never thinking about modern steels and such. AJ, I use "Break Free CLP"(cleaner, lube, preservative) on my other fixed cartridge guns. Would it be OK also to use in the smokepoles?

Re: Gun problem Is the gun stainless or carbon steel? If it is stainless, like AJ said there might be some galling on the bolt lugs. A little mushrooming on surface areas anywhere will make an action stick. Send wichester an e mail with the lot # of the ammo and ask if anyone has had problems with this particular lot #.

Re: Shot the Savannah! I have drawn the Savannah at Gander Mtn and it looks like a well made bow. I think it was in the $4-500 range if I remember correctly. I did not get to shoot it. I am just getting in to the stick n string stuff and am soaking up you guys talk... big time. Magnatec...what is stacking? Thanks.

Re: Archery pics and vids from this weekend The target was 15 yards for the recurve and 20 for the compound. I have never shot a recurve before that weekend and I have to say I did pretty good. One thing I have to get used to is the draw factor. I am so used to pulling my Mathews into the valley, knowing I'm at full draw and releasing. With the recurve, you have to pay attention to make sure you draw the bow back completetly to your draw lenth. I could see the decreased velocity when I short drawed the bow. Again, the anchor point is going to take some getting used to. Finger shooting is soo cool. I was shooting a vintage 1950's era Ben Pearson Javelina 66"@45lbs. I finally got the right arrows for it too. I was shooting all my junk arrows. Noithing was spined right for the recurve. Now I have port orford cedar arrows, spined in the 40-45lb, sheild cut, right helicle fletch with 125gr field tips glued on. I need to get some broadhead ready arrows for the recurve. I have 6 old bear, vintage 2 blade heads, but they are vintage and would hate to ruin them. Most likely I will look into the Magnus 125gr 2 blade Stinger heads. Funny thing... I was running back and forth to the Howard Hill DVD in the house checking my release and shooting form Howard Hill was a natural, what a awesome archer.

Re: Grannis got in When I read this news in the local paper on April1st, I was hoping it was a joke, but soon enough I was sick to my stomach. Feeling totally powerless. I wrote letters, made phone calls, told everyone I know about what a POS this guy Grannis is and it did nothing. This could be the start of the DEMISE of the NYS sportsman. Teach your children well folks. A Wolf in sheeps clothing is what this guy is. Our rights are in BIG TIME jepoardy. A Clintonista is what he is...

Re: Blantons Blog Comments [ QUOTE ] Should be good...so long as he doesn't bash black rifles! [/ QUOTE ] Maybe he could do a predator hunt with one of those sinister black rifles. I am looking forward to reading it.

Re: 223 ammo Bob, while a well placed .223 will kill a deer, you owe it to the animal to be as efficient as possible. I'm not sure if the .223 comes in the magical realm 1000/lb of energy at 100 yards needed to cleanly kill a light skinned deer sized game animal.

Re: 223 ammo Welcome to the forums Bob The heaviest bullet weight I could find, and shoot accurately. I don't know if a heavier bullet than 70 grains comes in .223

Re: Turkey Beard & Spur Display Super JOB! That really looks nice. Such intricate work too.

Re: Tattoo It is a nice design and you love it much more as when it is drawn/designed by you. Let alone what it stands for. Keep it out of the sun. The Sun kills tattoos.

Re: Tattoo removal The problem with cover up on tattoos is... the black tattoo ink is made to come thru the lighter coloring ink. Thats why when shading the tattoo, the artist can go over the outline with color(other than black) without ruining the outline or coloration. I have seen a cover up done with many layers of white/beige tattoo ink sittings over 12 months and then when the skin was light enough, the tattoo was covered up. That was like 15 years ago. I am sure they have better cover up methods now. That wrecking balm is suppposed to have good results.

AR, what to look for and how much is fair?
Adjam5 replied to wtnhunt's topic in Rifles & Accessories
Re: AR, what to look for and how much is fair? NIIIICE! Good Luck with it! I see that it is chambered in that .223 Wylde caliber. Is that the universal chamber to shoot 5.56 and .223? Is that caliber exclusive to Rock River, tahts the only manufacturer I see that offers that chambering. I also picked up ANOTHER AR , from a guy at work who is getting divorced who needs cash. Actually one and a half of a AR. It was such a good deal,I could not pass it up. It is a Colt Sporter Match in .223 Remington with a extra Rock River M4(5.56, on the gun now) upper with rails on the forend. Uppers came complete with bolt carriers and all hardware.5 mags, the soft case and 700rds of ammo. I can't tell you what I paid, because I practically stole it. What a deal. I am most likely going to get that RockRiver lower for $249, mate it to the M4 upper and put the Colt upper back on the Colt lower. Set one up for predators and the other for sport. -
Re: TURKEY TEAM #7 Jo and I hit the woods this weekend for the end of crow season on saturday and trout season sunday! The crows kicked our but...again! They are too smart this late in the season . We need a mojo deke of some sort. ANYWAY... We saw no turkeys, but lots of sign. The locals said they are gobbling in the AM. We will soon see.
