  1. For a deer shoulder mount, I'd have a hard time going over $500. I understand that there are masters of their craft out there and you can get what you pay for. To me the moment and the memory means a lot more than the money, but I still have my limits. My taxidermist charges me $350 for a shoulder mount. I am a definite stickler for detail, extremely meticulous and picky and I couldn't be happier with what I get! He does beautiful work!
  2. They're great! I've always been sceptical about products and wasn't sure about the Thermacell but figured it was worth a try. So far I've been very happy with it. I live in Minnesota where the mosquito might as well be the state bird. In my experience it doesn't completely eradicate all of the bugs, but I didn't expect it to. They definitely help! I'm excited about trying it this fall during the rut. You can buy blank pads and put scent on them like doe in estrous or whatever. Supposedly it helps disperse the scent and it keeps it from freezing which would be great if it works! Especially since where we hunt, by the time the rut rolls around everything freezes.
  3. Hi there, I'm looking at getting a new revolver and was interested in a little input. I want a good multi-purpose wheel gun. I mainly want it to bring with me on trips, camping, and fishing etc. But I also would like one that a guy could use deer hunting if he ever wanted to. Traditionally I've always liked .357 mags. I've shot a couple .40 cal that I really liked. I'm open to any suggestions really. I don't want anything huge and too heavy. I'm a die hard bow hunter, I have a lot of long gun experience and some hand gun experience but I'm not a pistol expert. I'd be interested to hear any suggestions. Thanks.
  4. Glad you guys take so much pride in your work, and care about attention to detail. I remember the first thing I ever got mounted. The most beautiful woody drake I ever saw let alone was lucky enough to harvest. It was me and my best huntin' buddy's (my dog) first bird together. I was SO excited to have it mounted!...What I got back looked like something that had been sitting in someone's attic for 30 years. I was so dissapointed, it made me sick! We still have the photos and memories, but mounts are special to people....Anyway, just wanted to say kudos. Keep up the good work.
  5. Wow bucks dropping antlers already? Crazy, typically they don't start dropping around here til around late January into February. Had a couple bucks last year hang on til March, which was crazy for here.
  6. It wasn't just the fact that he pretty much said everyone was unethical and did illegal things that bothered me. It was also the blatant generalization that he was so sure everyone here did certain things like shooting at deer 50 yards out or more...I've been bowhunting for almost 20 years and have never even thought of shooting my bow at a deer that far. Who the heck is this guy (who doesn't know me!), to tell me what he is so sure I've done?! Yeah, maybe not everyone here is a saint, maybe there are some shady characters. Yeah maybe there is some harmless imbelishment from people from time to time. But man, he went overboard like he had a major axe to grind against all other hunters. Well, anyway it's not worth my time to worry about something so ridiculous.
  7. Could be...I get the feeling he has a hard time wraping his brain around the fact that not everyone out there has done or would do the stupid things he does. He seems hung up on certain things, the 50 yrd shot deal, all the other crap...I guess it should be no shock that he had such a rough season and ultimately gave up.
  8. Ridonkulously stupid!!! LOL!...serioulsy?...This is what you're goin with? Ok man... Well, if everyone here is as unethical as you claim they are, do you really think your "question" would get answered honestly? I agree with other posts, sounds like you made up your mind...what did you expect, that droves of poachers would suddenly turn themselves in? This thread is idiotic, and actually comical. I think Tominator and Camoman pretty much said it... I dunno what happened along the way, if you got a bad taste in your mouth from an experience or if you are in a goofy area or what, but you give up bowhunting because it isn't easy enough for ya, then ya come here, generalize and blast everyone most of which if not all you don't even know... I have NEVER even though about some of the crazy things you are coming from way out in left field with. Just because you are an idiot doesn't mean everyone is...is this to rat out other people or to clear your own conscience?... ridiculous...
  9. We do it because we really enjoy it. To me processing game is all part of the deal. As far as grinding goes, we can use our own recipes for burger, sausage or whatever else we wanna make and we have a lot fun doing it. I like doing all my own stuff. I really enjoy using our own recipes, experimenting, and just doing it ourselves. Food and cooking is a big, important thing in my family, and we just really like the process from beginning to end.
  10. Wow, that's not the way it is at all. Waterfowling can be a lot of work! When I duck hunt I get up about an hour and a half before I would if I was going deer hunting. I don't get in until long after I would have either. Hooking the boat up, loading everything up, setting everything up, adjusting for conditions, slugging through cement-like muck, breaking ice, the list goes on, then packing everything all up to do it all again. I'm tellin ya, it can beat ya up. I wouldn't call it lazy. Not everybody uses a dog either, and those who do often have countless hours of year round training and work invested with their four legged huntin buddies. It's a special thing to watch a good gun dog do their what they love. And lets be honest here, if we are talking about "lazy" hunting, deer hunting can fall under that category (especially for some people). Not for everyone, especially those who consider it a year round pursuit, food plots, cameras, hundreds of hours in the stand etc it can be a lot of work (that we love). But deer huntig can be pretty uncomplicted. Anyway, just wanted to offer another point of view.
  11. Family to me is HUGE, I love spending time with my family. They mean everything to me. Besides hunting I love fishing, I've been a river rat since I could walk basically, I've never not lived on a body of water. I grew up hunting and fishing as much as humanly possible. My dad used to guide in the artcic circle, I guided in Ontario, I just love all kinds of fishing! I love dogs, especially hunting breeds, a few of my favorite breeds are Golden Retrivers, Brittanies, German Wirehairs, Labs...I could keep goin' but I won't lol. I just love dogs! I love poker! I consider myself a true student of the game. It's not a drinking game, it's absolutely a game of skill. It may take a few minutes to learn how to play but a lifetime to master. I also love food and cooking. Just to name a few things...
