  1. Re: Whats for Dinner in Camp We go up for a week at a time when hunting, so we take a week's worth of meals. We normally take Chili, Corn Soup, Steak, Chicken, Hamburger, Pork, and Venison. We normally have potatoes, peas, corn, green beans, bake beans, salad, etc. as our side dishes. We also bring lots of snacks; about 4 kinds of chips, beef/deer jerky, chocolate, oven pizzas, etc. What we don't eat while up there comes home with us and we finish it off at home. Hunting is our getaway from home so we go all out about it. Sometimes we even drive into a nearby town to go to a restaurant such as Red Lobster to eat. Especially if one of use gets a deer then we go in town to eat for celebration of a successful hunt.
  2. Re: Do you wear orange? I wear orange according to the laws of my state. In rifle season in particular I actually wear more orange than needed due to I hunt on public land and never know what kind of idiots will be out there with me hunting, but instead of solid orange I wear the Realtree Hardwoods Blaze to still keep that camo effect, but stay visible to hunters.
  3. Re: Signature Question... You can host images with free hotlinking at Photobucket or ImageShack.
  4. Re: Photo Editing Software I recommend either Photoshop by Adobe if you're looking into something with alot of options and abilities to do more professional work. If you're looking for something merely a little more easier to use and don't intend to go all out and do anything complex then I'd recommend Paintshop Pro by JASC. I have both, but I barely ever use my Paintshop Pro at all.
  5. Re: good day squirrel hunting Congratulations on the squirrels. I'll be going out for some myself here next week if the weather doesn't go sour. I wish I could shoot some of the ones that keep building nests in our gutters. They are so fat from raiding people's bird feeders around here.

    2 kills at once

Re: 2 kills at once Never had that happen to myself. I am picky about my shots. If I feel there's a chance I might screw up and harm another animal or person with my shot I don't take it. I can see how it happens though, especially if you have a group of deer, not just a lone deer. The closest I get to that would be one of the kids at camp that is 2 years younger than me killed a tree and a doe at the same time once. He thought the doe was behind the 6inch tree and he shot the tree blowing a hole in it and somehow managed to kill the doe standing on the other side of the tree. Looked like he shot her with buckshot, not a rifle, and it left a lot of splinters in her wound, not to mention a pretty nice sized hole in the tree. We still razz him about that at camp to this day.
  7. Re: Taking your kid hunting the 1st time I started my hunting with my father for small game at age 12 and still go every once in awhile for small game. I will be going small game hunting next week sometime pending on weather conditions and work schedules. My father started taking me deer hunting when I was 13. I've hunted almost every year since then with him and still do at age 20. I've managed to harvest a button buck (first deer) and two does (130lb & 180lb). I'm going again this year in December for another attempt at my first racked buck. I only hunt with rifle at the moment (Rem .243), but I am considering getting into crossbow hunting someday when I can afford the equipment to do so. I also turkey hunt, but only have been out twice. Once in Fall Turkey in 2004 (Called my father in a Hen) and once in Spring Gobbler in 2005 (Called in 2 gobblers, but none harvested). I will be going again in May 2006 for Spring Gobbler. Not going to make it out for Fall Turkey this year due to his work schedules and my lack of a hunting partner (I refuse to hunt alone).
  8. Re: some pa monsters. . . Very nice deer! I haven't had the luck yet to get a buck here in PA, but this year it looks hopeful. Scouting back in May led to me spotting at least 2, 6pt+ and 3, 8pt+ bucks within one stretch of forest. One looked like a possible 10pt+, but it was in velvet so it was difficult to count points on it. I know last year there was an 8 and 12 pointer spotted in archery roaming around I just never came across either of them during rifle at all. But, I did manage to harvest a 180+lb doe at 200+yrds with my .243.

    Did you cry

Re: Did you cry I didn't cry, but laughed at my first attempt at a deer. I completely missed it at 50yards. The deer jumped straight up in the air and ran into a tree on it's way fleeing my poor attempt at a very close distance rifle shot. The only way that deer would have got injured was either a heartattack or damage from hitting the tree because I left no marks on it at all. I was so frustrated that I just had to laugh to ease myself back up and sit back down and wait for the next one. Which I did kill with a single shot, but it was a tiny button buck about 50lbs or less because I could pick it up with one hand (at age 13) and carry it around. It was the easiest deer I've drug out of the woods ever. Didn't even break a sweat. Meat was darn tastey though, very pink and tender like veal.
