too early for corn in the feeders?
ousoonerfan22 replied to ousoonerfan22's topic in Land & Wildlife Management
I thought I've read that it's not good to feed corn during the summer especially with the temps we've had this summer. -
Since we're still in this drought do you guys think it's too early to start feeding corn?

Today is the day, and continued woes for the midwest....

I don't know if it's the same person but someone using a bow shot two trophy bucks inside a fenced property where the owner raises whitetails. This is a few miles north and east of where the cattle were shot.I don't understand why someone would shoot tame animals and especially leaving them lay so they're not doing it for meat.......scumbags!. I hope the sheriffs department catches them!!! -
Its bad in the Midwest... Actual Temps Wednesday, 115f

If I'm not mistaken except for the hottest july record in 1980 the rest were in 1934-1936 that must have been some horrible summers stretching all the way to Tennessee. I can't imagine dealing with this heat with no air conditioning! -

It is bad!!! The grass other than a few patches of burmuda is dead and I'm already feeding cubes in addition to a 28% molasses tub to our cows.I have the bulls in another pasture and have a round bale out for them plus cubes and a lick tub.The ponds are getting low so I hope we don't run out of water if this heat lasts another month. I planted some white oaks 3 years ago that have 4" calipers and are probably 15" tall and I'm losing them.I've been watering them with 30 gallons of water in plastic barrels with a small hole drilled near the bottom on each tree. In the evening when I'm watering the trees does are out milling around with their fawns looking for something to eat,one doe has 3 fawns.I was wondering about throwing out some corn but would it hurt them in this extreme heat?I've always heard corn is a cold weather food source. I've also thought about pouring small piles of sweet feed out for the deer if I can keep it away from the cows. -
I end up having to buy a new limb saw every season and would like to find one that will last.I've been buying Gerber but end up breaking them where the blade is attached in the handle or the blade itself.I know I'm probably abusing them but I seem to always have a 2-3" limb in the way.I try to hang stands in red, white and pin oaks and if a blackjack oak is in a good spot I'll grab the chainsaw but only if that's on private land. What brand do you guys use?

What are you feeding them? Rice bran? -
I have an unfired remington 700 sps .204 stainless with leupold rings/base,burris signature series 4-16,sling and bypod,6 boxes of ammo, trigger job 2.5 lbs, everything is new. Last sunday I carried the gun in at the local gun show and when someone asked about it I told them I would take $1000.00 for it with no takers... is that too much? I think I'll use the burris scope and bypod on my ruger no.1 .270 then try to sell the .204 with rings, base and ammo.

So you can spray clover with 24D and not kill it?

Nothing for me or my son. -
I had a rockchucker years ago and enjoyed reloading 30-06 ammo now my son is interested in reloading. I don't know whether to buy another rockchucker or a progressive loader because I'm only interested in my .270 but my son has pistols. I looked at the rockchucker kit but I also would like the digital scales so I'm wondering if buying the components seperately might be best. Is the dillon press better than the new rockchucker?

Is 61 in the uncompadre(spelling?) near Montrose?
-
My son moved to Denver and last season was his first for elk with a bow.Tyler wants to start trying to draw a tag in one of the better units for a chance at a good bull and also to get away from the hunting pressure in the other units.
-
Anybody know which unit/units would be the best for trophy bulls?Would you choose the muzzleloader season when applying for the draw in these units?I was told years ago that muzzleloader season was the best for bugling bulls, any opinions on that? Brian

Wow! that's impressive!!! What power is your scope set on when shooting at that distance? Trigger pull?
-
My dream hunt would be rocky mountain bighorn sheep but I'll never be able to afford that. Next would be a colorado/montana/wyoming whitetail or antelope.

Anyone use a gun vice when sighting in a rifle? I'm having a hard time staying on the center of the target at a 170 yards and trying to shoot a good group.I would like to try 300 yards but I don't know if I can keep from moving,I didn't have this problem when I was younger.

How's the trigger on your new rifle? If it's too heavy you might have Wayne in Chouteau work on it.I'm satisfied with his work. -
I shot my ruger no.1 .270 today with the federal premium 150 gr partitions,I had it sighted in with remington 100 gr rounds for coyotes last year.I don't have the ballistics in front of me but I have it hitting 2-2.5 inches high at 170 yards,it's windy today and this was the longest shot I could find out of the wind. I'm wondering how low it will be hitting at 300 yards? I'll go get the box of ammo out of the truck.:hammer1: velocity 2850 muzzle 2650 100 yds 2460 200 " 2280 300 " 2110 400 " 100 yard zero 200 " -3.5 300 " -12.6
