  1. Try Aldeer.com. Go to the forums and look in the "Land and Leases" forum.
  2. That is the mount he wants. Now if we can just find a form big enough.
  3. A friend of mine wants a pedastal mount for his IL deer but we haven't found a company that makes one large enough for his measurements. I know the smaller forms can be altered by being split and filled but.......... Is there a company that makes bigger forms for pedastal mounts? We've been through McKenzie's book and a couple of others. We were told about two companies but I can't find them. One was something like a "Monarch" and the other was "The Intimidator" I think. Any help would appreciated.
  4. Not to get your hopes up but that deer may very well gross close to 200". I've scored 170" deer for the BTR books and put my hands on a 180" 10pt. That deer is much better than those. He may not make B&C but who cares. That is a world class buck anywhere.
  5. Barbour is your best bet for an older buck in that area of the state. Go to www.outdooralabama.com and read up on the regs. They do have I think a "3pt on one side rule" down there on that WMA. You should hit the rut I would imagine at that time.

    Sadness

Take it from someone who raises dogs, as someone said, go home now and be with your grandpa and the dog. The dog is in pain I'm sure and there is only one thing to do for him. If the dog is that bad off, you owe it to him to do the right thing. Trust me, I understand that is absolutely SUCKS but you have to do what is right. If there is anyway, get home and help your grandpa through it. In the long run, you'll be glad you did.

  8. No, never hunted them. I used to hunt near Gordo in Pickens CO but that is as close as I got. Friend of mine lives a few miles from Oakmulgee. Go to ALdeer.com and ask about them on the forums there.
  9. I'm not sure if these are in Greene Co but........ (Well, I know one isn't) Oakmulgee in Moundville is a good one Demopolis is close to Greene Co and would probably be another one.
  10. I've been invited by a friend to travel over there and hunt for a few days. Just figured I would see if anyone would tell me what to expect. He wants some meat so I told him I would try to help him get a couple of does in the freezer. I think he said his county reported over 7,000 kills last year so I assume there are plenty of deer there.
  11. Is it Army Corps land? If so, how accessible is it? I work for the Corps so I may can call some folks out your way but chances are they'll have no clue. lol
  12. I need some help if possible. Myself and a couple of friends are looking for some places to rabbit hunt out your way. I guess a little get away hunt for 3-5 guys. I hunt in Nebraska every year for turkeys but really don't want to drive to Keya Paha county to rabbit hunt. Any help on private or public land would be nice in these states. Our dogs are deer broke and any young dogs wear shock collars just in case. Anyone willing to help would be surely invited to join us and we'll give you all the rabbits you want out of our harvest, gutten, clean and quartered. lol Guaranteed to leave any place better than we found it. Two of us run clubs down here so we have no patience for those that disrespect other's property.
  13. Try these sites: www.rabbithuntingonline.com www.beagleboard.com There will be links to The American Beagler and other sites there also. There is also some good forums in these sites. I am AlabamaSwamper on those forums. Just be smart when buying. Always watch them run and handle before buying.
  14. Depends. Most states don't pay to well at first. IN the south, somewhere in the high 20's to low 30k's. My best friend is a fisheries biologist. He got his Fisheries Science degree and Masters at Mississippi State. He does it because it loves his work. He was the smartest person in our class. 4.1GPA, 31 on his ACT and really high on his SAT. He chose a lower paying field but he is happy. That should be the #1 thing, will it make you happy. If it does, go for it. Heck, he did and he could have been anything.
  15. Here is what I was told by a well known deer manager. He had managed properties all over the country for one of the biggest consultants. I think I trust what he says. LOL "The best time to run a photo census is as late in the summer as possible (so antler development is near complete), 2) yet before any acorns begin to fall (acorns outdraw any other food source--deer will stop coming to the camera bait once acorns begin to fall). For me, I like anywhere from the first of August through mid-September. Antlers are almost fully developed by early August and acorns begin to fall in mid-September. Just remember that any food-source bait must be completely removed at least 10 days before the start of bow season. Once I determine the camera locations, I pre-bait the location (keep an active pile of corn) for at least 10 days before I start the census (to get deer accustomed to using the site), then I place the cameras and run the census for at least 10 days. In 10 days, you will get pictures of the vast majority of deer using the area (90+%). Minimum camera/bait locations are 4 per square mile, or one per 160 acres (quarter square mile). I literally draw a one square mile square on a map, divide it into four equal quarters, and then pin-point a camera/bait site near the center of each quarter-square. "
