Great Job and greater rig!!!! I Just love to see these projects. What are you getting for velocity and what are you using for a bullet? Everyone has a TV show nowadays......maybe we should camo our stocks and barrels and have Bill sponsor Long Range Realtree??? What you guys think??

I use a Sig 522 with 3rd Gen night vision, a Rock River lower/Storm Lake Machine upper in 6.8 SPC, a Rem 700 VSSFII in 220 swift and a Colt Match Grade Lower/American Spirit Arms upper Bull barrel 24" in 223 Rem. Besides the night vision scope.....all Leupold optics. All of this hardware and I took my biggest yote with a muzzleloader (Thompson Center Encore) while deer hunting on opening day in Michigan in 2006 (approx 40 lbs-its a coydog, full mount in my trophy room). Biggest one I ever seen, helped my harvest my first Pope and Young buck in Pike County, IL. Huge yotes found in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Illinois. If I were to REALLY hunt big yotes.....I'd hunt central....North central Indiana.

You have the right set up. Forget the .308.....spend your money on a reloader!. Great post!

All .of my rifles have aftermarket triggers...Rifle Basix....Timney.....and Jewell. Jewell's are well......jewells. Best of the Best.....but pricey. These days I use a lot of Rifle Basix set at 2.5 lbs (yep that would be around 40 oz). I'm not sayin factory triggers are trash.....Savage and Remington both have good triggers. But, trigger control is right up there with a good barrel, good bedding job and good optics/mounts. I always strive for the best in all variables.......and I'm always searching for the ultimate in accuracy.....no matter if its a big bore or coyote rifle! Watch the "Long Range Hunter" on the Outdoor Channel and see what they say about triggers. Great Post!!

Well, took out the rifle for a test run. This rifle is capable of far better accuracy than I ever thought. I never get too excited when it comes to standard production rifles...but wow! If I use a lead sled and/or shooting bags, I'm pretty sure I could shoot 1/2 to 3/4" groups. This is with a 20" barrel!! However, the jury is still out on the Zeiss scope. The "click" adjustments did not seem to be moving the"1/4 inch click at 100" as its suppose to. I'll update at my next range session with bullet speed, groupings and scope issue. Also, recoil is very low for a 338 and muzzle blast suprisingly absent?? Very interested in playing around with this new "Superformance" powder.......especially with my custom 7mm Rem Short mag.

After being swayed by the gun writers, I purchased a Ruger 77 Hawkeye Compact (synthetic stock) in 338 RCM. Topped it with a Zeiss 3x9 conquest (600 reticle) and bought dies and brass. Also purchased 3 boxes of 200 grain Superformance Hornady cartridges. Replaced the LC6 trigger (broke clean at......6.2 lbs) with a rifle basix (2 lbs 11oz-everytime). If it shoots straight....its going bear hunting in NW Montana in May. Any one have one in 300 or 338 RCM?

308 hands down. The 25-06 makes a great varmint/antelope rifle. I know its downed a good number of mulies and whitetails.....but its marginal (100 gr bullets). The 308 win is in a different category. With a 150 grain bullet....its a true deer killer. Move up to a 180 grain bullet out to about 250 yards...its a true elk/bear/moose killer. Good luck next season!!!!

I own both the 300wsm and 300 win mag. Seems like its easier to find accurate loads for the 300 win mag. But, the 300 wsm fits in a short action and works well in compact rifles. Its a wash......just my opinion. Unless your a reloader...then the 300 win mag would be my choice. Obviously I could not decide...so I bought both.

Yep...those steel cases will do that. What your rifle is telling you is that your chamber specs are on the tight side. That's WONDERFUL! You don't have a problem.....you have a gem. That's why you were shooting 1" groups. CONGRATS!

I like the 130 Nosler vs the 115 grain bullet. Especially on shots past 250 yards when talking mule deer. But, both are killers and accuracy is the most important factor. Looks like you will have to invest in the economy and pick out a good double rifle case......not such a bad problem to have! Good Luck!!

Don.......you are kidding? Glock is a great design and one of the best tactical guns (I have a tricked out model 33 w/ glockwoks quick reset trigger and a custom KKM barrel), but it does not hold a candle to my Wilson Combat or Smith 1911 PD. This old MP will tell you that this 100 year+ design utilizing the 185 gr+P round is the best of the best.....and the Kimber is a good one.......although the Smith with the scandium frame is one of the very best carry guns available. Although I have had several 1911 pistols built, I have to say that the Wilson Combat and Ed Brown line of 1911's are the very best of the best. MY CQB JUST RULES!!:toot:

27 yards 5 pt Bull Elk Montana 338-378 Weatherby 250 Grain Nosler Partition,,,,,I thought to myself....are you kidding me??? Oh Yea!! I'm the long range hunter alright. Then I rechamber my 30-06 to a 30-06 Ackley improved 40 degree shoulder. I carefully taylor make a handload that launches a 180 grain Nosler Accubond at 2915 fps. Wyoming Mule Deer in the Snowy Range.....I say to my guide, will the big Mulie come out in that canyon (around 450 yards)?? He says keep glassing. Then I say...what about that big mulie right there (55 yards)? He says shoot...shoot. Come on! Maybe one day I can pull something bigger than a pitching wedge out of my shooting bag!!!!

Winchester Supreme Platnium Tips.....shoot like a rifle out of my Super Black Eagle. Killed many a deer in southern Michigan and Northwest Indiana....as well as a few yotes that ventured to close.
