Being able to live on the property that I hunt and manage gives me great opportunity to take inventory of the deer that I have. After a year of shed hunting and all summer of trail cam pics I had been discouraged because I had not found anything worth hunting.
Around the end of October driving around on the property I spotted what I thought was a great deer. I put a trail camera in thea area I thought he was living. 2 days later I go in and check it and this guy is on there. My good friend Ryan and I put a plan together of what we thought he was doing on a daily basis and his home area.
This deer was living in an 80 acres swamp 3 feet of water with just the perimeter dry. Saturday evening I go to hunt and this guy walks out and I make a horrible shot. I caught shoulder blade with no penetration and no harm to the deer. We looked and looked and looked never found him I went back to his bedding area and jumped him up with a doe. I knew he was doing okay I knew he was back on his daily routine so I set a game plan for the next morning. Took a climber and my bow into his bedding area. Set up on a rub line and at first light a doe ran by. Not far behind was this boy 22 yards double lung top of heart ran 60 yards my years complete.
