  3. nice buck congrats! what part of ny are you from? im from southern ny in orange county
  4. i hunt in orange county ny it was pretty awesome i went out the morning after to check on my deer that i shot and in my back yard i see this doe run then this massive buck i seen him in velvet before and hes got to be 20 inches wide and 15 high by far the biggest buck i have seen in my hunting area its either an 8 or 10 pointer and its rack is perfect and i also have another big 8 pointer walking around that i had in range with my bow but he never gave me that opportunity
  5. this is my first buck it was an awesome hunt i had golden doe estrous out and i had not seen anything and i seen these 2 deer walking through the woods. i seen the first one and its been this lone year old or 2 year old deer really small. then i seen this buck walking up behind the little deer right toward my shooting area. so i waited and he stopped at 30 yards or so. then i drew and he saw me after i drew so i was holding my draw for a minute then he stepped up 2 feet and i had a big window through a tree branch. so i held and released and i watched the deer run about 30 yards and stopped and fell down. thats my story of my first buck it was awesome i have been seeing alot of deer to ill be out again soon i hope
  6. well im hunting the north east region (orange county, new york) and i dont know the name of the call but i know its cheap ill pay 300 or a little more for a scope im hunting at night and the most ppl its been is 3 but normally 2 people and what is the best spot light to use and thats everything you needed i believe
  7. ill tell you the best thing to do and taxidermy.net is an awesome place to go it got me really interested and then another good expierience which i highly recomend is go work with a taxidermist hands on expierience with someone who knows what there doing is the best thing for you
  8. well this is my first year hunting coyote i have before but not too seriously about it. i just bought a new gun like 1 month ago a bolt action savage .223 and im shooting 55 grain hornandy v-max and i want to get a nicer scope then what came with it. me and my friends been going out and no luck. we were also using a cheaper electronic call. using the call i could always hear the yotes but they were always far away and once we heard where they were they would stop howling back and they would never show up at least we never seen them. so the help i need is what is a good scope that is fairly good on price and what are we doing wrong or what should we do to make are hunts hopefully more successful. what is good calling methods? what are good calls to use and ive tried mouth calls and they are hard to get down? whens the right time to shine the spot light? how can i get the yotes to respond constantly or how do i get them to let me know when there close? any help will be greatly appreciated and i thank you all for your help!
  9. all the advice they gave you is great advice i tanned a deer hide and it really depends on how hard you feel like working i never tanned a squirell and it should be fairly easy to break the fibers and all you do is stretch it on a hard surface like a saw horse corner but just tan it with a tanning kit either out of van dykes which i believe i used or wasco dont try stupid homemade tanning methods unless you dont care that it dont last if you want to experiment though be my guest no homemade tanning ideas are guarenteed i think a tanning kit is like 20 dollars and you probably would be able to tan like 40 squirells with it one kit does a deer hide so good luck and have fun
  10. this is my second year huntin in ny for turkeys and no luck yet. i really think that its the calling that were not that great at it and the diaphram is really hard to get down and need alot of practice. i think im going to go out tomorrow morning and see if i get lucky. i was also wondering if you all have any tips or ideas or techniques that work good for you and maybe we could try them and see how everything goes. i really like turkey hunting. the one good thing i must say is every time i went out ive seen birds.
  11. Re: .270 to big? thats what im going to use this weekend for a coyote hunt and im going to mount it if its a nice yote

    help!!!!

i really want to know how to tan deer hides. i heard that the only thing you do is scrape it and salt it on a board streched out. i also heard, that you need to all kinds of other steps and procedures to finish it.
  21. sunday night i got another doe thats 2 for this year and i have one tag left for a buck and only 3 days left to fill it out im just hoping i will
  22. Re: my first deer(pic) i would definately try to get that mounted that is a beautiful deer i would try anything to get money for that maybe you could make a deal with a taxidermist
  23. Re: NY Hunters, If You had A chance the does are overpopulated in orange county and i think that the doe permits should still be used i know a farmer who gets nuesence tags they can kill up to 15 does this year with them they already shot 13 and if he fills all of these up then he can get more next year but even after 13 on one small farm there still running around everywere but i think the 3 point restriction is a great idea
  24. sunday night i shot my first deer it was a doe and forgot to take pictures but oh well to late now i was using a 270 and shot it at about 40 yards and it went about 30 yards the best part about it was i set up the stand i was sitting in about 3 hours pryor to me shooting the deer its a great bow and rifle spot right of the deer trail and theres about 4 other trails that connect to the main trail im sitting on and right behind me is a cornfield that they go to eat at its a great spot but ill be going back out for some more tonight
  25. Re: I love deer hunting but I always find my self .... well this year was my first spring turkey hunt and it really was alot of fun me and my friend walked down with the woods owl locator i blew into it about three times and what a great feeling when i heard about 20 gobbles all around me. so we set my decoys up and not in the right spots but it was still noticeable so they start flying into these black dirt fields in and out of each field until they come into the field closest to us and thats about 50 yards and we had one tom walking in i was ready and still waiting it was struting all the way and then it got about 35 yards away and my friend could see him and i couldnt because he walked diagonal and i had a bush in front of me but he stopped and turned around and walked off. we had no clue why but later when we left we went to pick the decoys up and the one decoy folded up and we couldnt tell from were we were sitting. it was cold in the morning and when it heated up the decoy buckled but it still was really fun and im looking forward to this spring
