  1. I've been seeing some advertising for the Retina Lock sight and am thinking about getting it. Does anybosy have one or have any thoughts on it? It's kinda pricey $130-$170 so I'm sure I'll find a differant sight for alot cheaper.
  2. I wasn't reffering to the same bird that was in the tree. I had a fall turkey hunting excursion and when we busted the flock up and started calling them in, a hen came over a ledge and hopped onto a branch about 10 feet off the ground.
  3. Looks like New York is 1 of the few who only allows hunting until 12 noon.
  4. I love to hunt them, it helps pass the time till big game season. Also this is a good way to introduce my nephews to hunting and spend some time in the woods.
  5. Well despite the wacky weather I hunted hard and came close on several birds but couldn't give any a dirt nap. On Friday I set up and had several birds gobbling to my calls and on their own. Once it became light enough to see, I could see a few hens in the trees as well as 2 gobblers and heard a jake trying to sound off. Once they pitched down they headed away so I got up to cicle the hill then... BANG...BANG...BANG.... somebody snuck in from the neighbors property and was hunting the property line. After waiting a bit to see if anything would talk after this I headed out of the woods to see who the culprite was and low and behold it's the same guy who stole a bird from me and my bro 2 years ago. Seems he has been doing this to several hunters, he waits till they start sounding off and doesnt care if there is anybody working the bird. The 1st one he stole he came in behind the bird and snipered it as it strutted 75 yards out infront of us on the top of the ridge. On Saturday we had set up in the same spot cause we roosted 1 tom and a jake the night before. We set up in the area where the birds went the day before and while it was still dark we had a Yote come in and pester us for 15 minutes. We tried to call him in but not close enough so since it was still dark and the birds weren't awake yet we chased it around the woods and eventually it ran off just in time for the birds to wake up. This bird gobbles, double gobbled, and tripple gobbled to our calls and to a real hen for over 1 hour while on the roost. When he pitched down he went the same way as the day before, just several hundred yards down the hill from us with a harem of hens. Kinda disappointed we didn't seal the deal, I looked at my 7 yr old nephew and said sorry we didn't get one, he replied "That was awesome". Then come to find out he spotted the Yote and said "dad there's something right here" as my bro tried to make out the sillouette. All in all it was a great week spent hunting despite not filling any tags, but making the memories beats filling a tag anyday.
  6. Congrats and glad you were able to drop a bird.
  7. It is legal here in NY but I would never shoot one out of the tree. Just ask yourself this question, Would you want to be shot in bed? Eventhough he was awake I still consider him "in bed" and will not shoot off the roost. However if the bird has been on the ground and then flies up in the trees for some reason then they are fair game, as long as they are not roosting.
  8. Been having a ruff season so far. THis morning looked great, got set up and birds were sounding off all over. I was only 150 yards from a few gobblers and jakes which had some hens mixed in. Everything was going good, then they flew down and heaeded away. I got up and started to cirlce them to head them off. Since I was on private land I figured I had a good chance to head them off and re-position. I grabbed my stuff and started to cut around the field... then .... BANG.... BANG.... BANG!!! Some ******* fired off 3 shot not 100 yards from me just over the ridge line. I waited a bit and heard nothing so hoping they missed. Now I'm pissed cause this isn't "public" land. So I head down to the thruck to go find out who and where they came in at. And as usual I spot a truck on the other side of the hill at the neighboring property and as it turns out it's the same douchebag who has been screwing me and my brother up for several years. It wouldn't be such a big deal if I was able to hunt the entire season but only had the 1st week to fill a tag and that didnt happen :hammer2:
  9. Rains are ruining my hunts. I only have the 1st week to hunt and now being into the 3rd day I'm getting disapointed. The birds are out there gobbling but I can only take the wet for so long. Also when my calls get soaked i cant lure them in anyhow.
  10. I went roosting last night and had it spoiled by a yote running around. Not good new for my area. If he comes in to my calls he'll be a dead dog.
  11. Congrats and glad to see your hooked. If you had a cold winter with lots of snow it may have frozen and broke off. That happens up here is NY.
  12. Congrats!! Just think by him losing half his feathers it's less you gotta pluck... unless you were gonna get a full mount.
  13. In this case, Roosted was Roasted!!! Congrats on the early bird.
  14. Congrats, an Opening day bird is always the best way to start out a season.
  15. I'll trade with you, expecting servere storms with tornado out breaks down here is SW Illinois.
