I was out looking for my third time this year. Found two old antlers that the brush hog broke up but then one fresh one right before dark. Its only a three point but has decent mass and a 6" brow tine. Up to four sheds for the year, unfortunatly brush hog busted up three of them from last year, going to have to really look before the grass gets to high. Jumped up a few deer on my way out and one small buck still had one side so I will have to walk the same area again in about a month.

I have posted up five so far. Unfortunatly havent had the time to get out like the last two years. Had to work out of state for a few weeks. Hope to get out a few more times before the end of the contest.

This is my second hanging antler. Saw it on my way to work, about 20 yards in the woods. The sun was hitting it perfectly.

Just wanted to check in. I found two sunday so I will try and get them posted in the right spot this weekend. Posted up a pic of the larger one in my post on the main shed forum. Found three old sheds during hunting season but that was before December so I guess they dont count. Good luck

I used the wasp hammer for a few years and changed over to the boss SST when they came out. They have performed great with every deer I have shot. Out of the 12 deer I have taken with them, all but two were complete pass thru shots. The other two exited and went in to the fletching. One of those was a shoulder hit and the other was a bad angle shot that went in at the last rib and exited just in front of the back leg. 11 of the 12 deer hit with the boss SST heads had gone down within 100 yards. Great heads for the money.

I took my fiance shed hunting sunday and had a little luck. She is still looking for her first shed but I know it will happen soon. I found my first sheds for the year. The fist one was a small chewed up forked horn from last year but the second one was one I was really hoping for. I found one side from this buck last year and a neighbor gave me the other side. I also have four years worth of pictures of this guy, seen him from the house but never have seen him while hunting. I am glad he made it through the year. I also found a deadhead that was a little to ripe to bring home. Unfortunatly he was a small buck that I had watched from the blind during bow season. I will go back and get him after the coyotes clean him up a bit. Found three old sheds while hunting in the fall so this shed season is off to a great start. Here is his set from two years ago. One of the few pics I got of him this year. One last one of him from two years ago.

Guess I will just be watching this year. A few post shy. Found 13 last year and found 3 already this year. Good luck to everyone.

Found one more on the way to my parents house today. It was about ten yards off the road. I dont know how many times I have driven past this and even walked by it without seeing it.

We havent had to worry about snow down here in Arkansas for a few weeks, I hope it stays that way. I love the snow but I am ready for the warm weather. My biggest problem has been finding areas that didnt have tons of rabbit hunters crawling all over the place but I am glad they were out today because it caused me to check out this new place that I found the antlers in. I still havent made it in to my favorite place so hopefully I will find a few more.

Found a few more today and the first one was a hanger. Unfortunately the squirrels had really worked it over in a short time.

Found it three years ago. I had found a 4pt dead head several years before that but this was my first shed.

I figure he is atleast 3.5 yo. Here is a better side shot of him from this year. And a few from last year.

I went back out looking around where I found the bigger shed that I found earlier in the week. Found his other side about 20 yards away but it was in a different direction than I thought the buck would have gone. I dont know what happened to his rack. He was a normal 8pt last year.

I went back out looking now that the snow has melted. Found the match to the first antler about 150 yards away in the woods. Found the two other smaller ones about 50 yards from that. Looked for another hour and light was fading when I stopped to look around and glanced down and saw the larger antler between my feet. I know that the larger buck lost both antlers within a three hour window (trail cam pics) so hopefully I will find the other side with a little more looking. Great year so far.

tips for finding sheds and when to start in Arkansas
jbadams66 replied to PineyBrake's topic in Shed Hunting
Nows the time to get out and start looking. The bucks in one of the areas I hunt all dropped their antlers about two weeks earlier than last year. As for advice, just spend time in the woods and move slow. -
Went for a walk the other day and found this. I didnt take a picture of the antler out of the snow but I had a picture of the buck a day or two before he lost it. He lost the left side three days before he lost the right side. There could be a few more antlers out in the same field I found this one in but Arkansas had an above average snow fall that could easily completely cover an antler. This is a pic of the buck before he lost the antler I found.

Count me in. I had a great year last year and I doubt that I will do half as well but I sure look forward to trying.

I can honestly say I stumbled over this one. I was out scouting a new duck hole and stepped on something that flipped up and hit the back of my boot. I knew what it was before I looked down. A nice shed that barely got past all the squirrel. They did a number on it early on but it was under water due to a high river for a few months. This is good because the varmints would have eaten it completely if it was exposed but the darn thing smells terrible. Anyone have any ideas how to get rid of the smell? I let it soak in bleach water over night but it started stinking as soon as it dried. Right now it is sitting on top of the roof so hopefully the sun will help get rid of the smell.

8 singles, the matched set was from a skull I found. Definitely my best year for shed hunting. Before this year I only had about 4 or 5 sheds total.

I am cursed, its the curse of the left side antlers. I can only find left sides for some reason. These are the antlers that I have found this year and of course you can see what side they are from. I have four other antlers that I found last year and they to are all left sides. One cool thing is that I just started trying to train my lab to find antlers and I took her out and worked with her for awhile with a few of my sheds. I let her just run around the field after I put up the sheds and guess what happened, I ended up finding two more sheds. I saw both of them before she did but she found them without me pointing them out and she brought them right to me. I think she might work out as a good antler dog
